You face (Potential Consequences prefight)

Potential Consequences
Due: Thursday, 02/18/21 9:59am PST
optional challenge: Borrow some iconic instrumentation
yourbandname_pc.mp3 sent to fightmaster@songfight.org
Subject: Potential Consequences
Body: (your band name)

Recent talk about Morphine and then hearing "Gone Daddy Gone" by The Violent Femmes made me think about bands/songs with unusual and iconic instrumentation.

About once a week I wish I owned bagpipes.

Now more than ever.

Also, this video features some TRULY TREMENDOUS mullets. Wow.

If there's any instant band action, I've got my bass and baritone guitars at the ready.

That's fantastic. I'm only familiar with his stellar work on the Rad (1986) soundtrack.

Ha! That's something by John Farnham that I've never heard of before!

You're The Voice is a song every single Australian knows. Even kids these days. It was huge. It's probably on the citizenship test. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You%27re_the_Voice

I thought I'd not heard The Violent Femmes before but I've just found out they were the ones that did Blisters In the Sun, which is a great song. I'm going to have to start working my way through their albums. The Foo Fighters must also be fans because All My Life sounds very similar to Gone Daddy Gone.

Taking another run at Morphine. Built something like this Saturday. Three bari tracks so far.

Night Sky is Sally on lyrics, Steve on drums, and Matt on the other stuff

tomdg feat rox. My take on iconic instrumentation. Plus, I'm going all authentic and giving it full nerdcore.

I have all of my instrumentals tracked. But I have no idea what to do about vocals and lyrics.

Ok, for the iconic instrumentation challenge, I've got:
Brother Baker honoring Goldfinger - Superman (Recording vocals and mixing tomorrow)
Here, Atticus honoring Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek (Finished and sleeping on it all)
The former is super silly and the latter feels a little self-indulgent. Both feel like they could use more attention in small places and I can't figure out how to divide my time well! I'm pretty proud of both and super excited to finally try the "Hide and Seek" thing, I've been meaning to do so for almost a decade now :D

I'm not sure if pairing a 5 string bass with a 7 string guitar is iconic of anything more than a general scene, But I did combine a reverb pedal with a chorus pedal, is that iconic?

I'm looking forward to hearing this. I've wanted to try a Hide and Seek style song since I heard it but I've never been able to write anything suitable.

I should be in this week with a basic rock riff, if I can get the vocals recorded in time.

And I just realized that what my instrumental needs is a didge and a djembe to go with the rack of effects pedals. That way it'll be basically early Incubus instrumentation...though really it's turning into a weird halfway point between In Utero and Mezzanine stylistically...

I'm in. - As a guitar guy I didn't use any guitars this time. All sounds are synthetic using LMMS. So, for me quite an unusual instrumentation. (But maybe not that iconic...)

I'm in a little late with something sketched last week, then abandoned, then bashed together with a hammer at the last minute.
