I mean I guess if I wanted to sound like Serj Tankian in his absurd melodramatic glory I could probably come close but that's about it.
Yes, this please.
Sober GF: I can't explain why but I hated it

Toby Rok: Sweeeney Toad...I can’t explain why, but I like it...

Vocals -- take me longer, I have to warm up more, and in order to really get into it I have to do a lot more takes. Out of earshot of course,
I get it. My kid's bedroom is right next to my office where I record and there's usually only a half hour window when I can record vocals before she goes to bed. My voice takes a half hour to warm up so you can understand why my Songfight entries sound the way they do :).

I wasn't familiar with Helmet but having listened to some songs from that album I think you nailed the style.

Rod The Bunman - the mix makes this sound like it's coming out of some crappy tiny speaker transistor radio. It strips all the impact from what could be a rocking song.
Tom and I thought our Devil song rocked too! I can't speak completely for him, but for me I'm 99% about the song and 1% about the production, a personal attribute that has often made musical communication more difficult if you were to listen to some of my earlier songfights. I'm still emerging.

But regardless we both loath modern music production and the overbuilding and overwriting of production that has seeped from crap pop into all aspects, at least it seems that way. The pandemic and the lack of live music has only made this worse in my opinion. So I can't say that we were aiming for AM radio but big was certainly not the goal.

Thanks everyone providing feedback! I had a guy remix my submission, punching the vocals a bit:

Wow, well first of all I’d like to thank Satan, without whom none of this would be possible. A toast!

(In this case, Satan is some mixture of Sam, Futureboy, Ken, JB, Owl, and Vom)

Secondly, I’d like to thank Glenn Close for making the Oscars almost tolerable to watch

In all seriousness though, this really is about Owl & Vom, and JB/Ken/Sam/Futureboy, I honestly was mostly incidental to those two groups of people being magical
