Re: What's all that yelling? (Calm Down PreFight)
It really depends on whether you feel that the lyrics are the defining characteristic of the song or not. I think that they are alternate songs with the same lyrics, which some could claim is an "alternate version." It's a semantic argument which is inherently impossible to "win" simply because different perspectives lead to different combinations of definitions and so on.Ross wrote:My point exactly - so I agree that when MC Eric B hears a song by Lyric Burgler using words by MC Eric B, MC Eric B is not hearing another version of "his" song, and neither is it a lyric Burgler song - it belongs to both of them, neither can claim it on their own.fluffy wrote:It'd be both of theirs. Should it really be that hard or complicated to be, like,
"I'm in for this fight, with ___ by ___."?
it's just basic respect for other musicians, really.

Well thanks for bringing it up, Glenny. But I don't believe the stones have much claim to a Slim Harpo song, beyond the rights to their own arrangement and recording.

Popular blues riff. We stand on the shoulders of giants. etc etc.
I think that riff might be..........

I kinda bit a line from a Colbert show the other day. He said that John McCain injects red bull into his taint, and this week I pose the question regarding which candidate titillates the listener's taint.
Anyway, I ditched outta work this afternoon to quickly record a little ditty, so I'm in.

Re: What's all that yelling? (Calm Down PreFight)
well, I've mostly written two different songs - neither of which is calling to me - I fear I may let this fight pass. We'll see if I get the itch to record one of them tonight.

I'm in!
Whew, that was a last minute mix. It was tough to tell the clippiness during mastering, since my sister needs sleep and I had to turn the mix down pretty low. So, my guess is that this mix is gonna be either really awesome, or really bad.
And I get to write a paper tomorrow morning because I didn't do it tonight! Hurrah for priorities.

You need a good....GOOD set of studio headphones. You'll make the fam really happy in the mixing process. Trust me, it's a must.Reïst wrote:I'm in!

Re: What's all that yelling? (Calm Down PreFight)
I've been through a lot of different headphones, and my current ones (Audio-Technica ATH-M45) are my favorites ever. Really nice, near-flat response, no thuddiness, crystal clear sound, and pretty darn good isolation. I think they were around $100ish.
Certainly better than my previous studio cans (Grado SR-60 sounds good but has a hell of a lot of spill, Sennheiser HD-280s fall apart if you look at them funny, and AKG-K55 are okay if you don't mind having headphones which fall off with a slight breeze and/or don't like hearing the bass parts of your mix).

Re: What's all that yelling? (Calm Down PreFight)
I'm using the DT-770's and they're pretty good. They hide the highs a bit, but they are good and flat.
