Re: His Last Few Reviews
Hi there- first time fighter here… Can’t believe I only found this site now. Very flippin’ cool. This fight is full of awesome songs. Really impressive. Thanks to those who listened to and/or reviewed my song…
@bubblepipemedia Thank you- I’m glad you dug it. As a new fighter, I wasn’t sure how it would come across. I hear ya’ on the shaker criticism. The reverb on the vox was intentionally simple, but sure, something else might have worked better.
@signboy Thanks. It’s nice to be compared to PUSA. Glad the lyrics caught your attentions, too.
@Paco Del Stinko I actually wondered if my vocal performance was too cutesy. But then, that was the original idea for it… a messed up children’s song. So I kept it over-the-top. Thanks for your thoughts.
@TheYyarrellBrosBand Yes. Would you pass?
@lalabrookie Thank you kindly! I’m especially glad you dug the lyrics. And yup, at least the mayfly goes out with a… bang.
@nyjm Thank ya’! Big time. Thanks for telling me about DJ Ranger Den… cool comparison.
@BBABM Heck yeah. Bumpidy-bumpa.
@chocolatechips Yup, that’s what I was going for... messed up children’s song for adults. I kept picturing an animation of this… Top pick, eh? Thanks a lot! Sweet.
@bgm Nah, you’re not. That’s a hilarious way to describe it.
@glennny Thanks for your thoughts! Interesting that you pointed out the speaking parts… I considered replacing them, but decided that they made it goofier… and added a contrast that might draw in the listener. Ahhh well. I’m still undecided. Tabla- good question! It called for it the moment I started working on the song. This is my first fight- I’m not very familiar with Minty Handy… perhaps I should be? Thanks again.

Re: His Last Few Reviews
Replies : thanks so much for the great feedback, it was perfect. I feel I like should be paying for these lessons.
...bubblepipemedia-thanks for taking the time to listen and review. I will work on technical end a bit more.....signboy-sexy Gnarls B..I like that, thanks so much for you kindness...Paco del Stinko - you helped me a tremendously, love it when people say things that make sense to me, I will work on the range and backing vocals, all I ask is that you stay on me until I get them perfect for your beautiful ears...YyarrellBrosBand - lol, yeah, I'm a big joker, I really don't take my music that seriously, I'm more of a freestyle singer when the mood hits me but I'm trying to improve my performance and ability and I think this site with it's wonderful feedback will help me alot, thanks for the words and yes if I can get my flakey brain moving I plan to record something tonight for this weeks fight...lalabrookie - well the thing is my greatness is not in one piece but in all the irregulars one that come together fantastically - hopefully in the future some part of me will met those expectations I set. thanks for reviewing...nyjm-review is on point, staying on pitch and controlling my variations are my weakest points, I would appreciate it if you would stay on me, until I reach a level that satisfies you, thanks for taking the time listen and review. ....bbabm - lol, your crazy, I like that, you guys are perfect for me, this is the kind of feedback I've been needing for so long, you gone make me awesome. I will work on this, I promise. thanks....chocolatechips, wow, this is probably the review I would have gave myself, it's honest, thanks, I can’t apologize , it's anomaly jonez, good, bad and ugly....bgm, made me smile, I needed that! I'm not sure what's going with my mic I going to try recording tonight with no fx just vocals and see where that get's me, if not I'm going to have to stand on a street corner and sing for $$$ to buy and new mic, ;p let's hope for the better. Thanks again, ps,I LOVE your voice...glennny..thanks for taking the time to dissect the song, the problem is I have no training, my ear just sings what ever my little heart desires and I make most of it up as I go along. I find that I do much better with pitch and range when I don't freestyle, but the hard part is I wait to the last minute to create, ie tonight, ;p and now I'm going to go stand in the corner for 15mins punishment for being such a bad girl. I’m trying to work on singing in just one note but it's the hardest thing in the world for me, my voice is like a high powered tool with no direction. I will work on this, Paco del Stinko advise about not being the same voice helped alot, I will try to get this part together, it's seem like you gave me a math problem to solve, please, please, keep on me with this, hopefully you will win. I feel like I should give you and apple as you may be my fav teacher.
Again thank all of you so very much for the honest and helpful feedback. aj.
========================================
Bad Boys at Bat Mizvahs - this song grabs my attention, Ireally dig the strunging and the baseline.
Berkely Social Scene - another fat juicy bass line, I like the distortion too, worked for the song.
bgm - mmmmhhhmmm...love your vocals, like a hot cup of sweet mint tea you have to sip, I really dig that down on the ponderosa feel to it, and it's good to the last drop.
deetak - man I feel like I am walking through a beautiful garden, your voice is enchanting, the melody soothing and I sway like a liliy in the summer sun under your beautiful spell. love it.

Re: His Last Few Reviews
You're the second person to mention Spiritualized. I will probably have to look them up now; I'm actually not familiar with them. The Darkside, too, I think that was the one Paco mentioned; I don't know, I'm too lazy to page back and look right now. Either way I definitely take Eno as a compliment.glennny wrote:There’s a little Spiritualized going on. The stuttering guitar makes this like Spiritualized as remixed by the Chemical Brothers.

As someone without a dog in this fight let me just say that the voting results are BS. Not even close to indicative of what the best songs are. Why would anyone game this system? Super lame. It seems like the best feedback with this system is reading other people's reviews here on the board, the "winner" is just whoever gets their friends to vote for them (or cheats votes in some other way, more likely.)

That's awesome.Ebola-Cide is the favorite among t-mobile users, while Torrentz users prefer comcast. Of the top three, The Flight brings the most diverse fan base. Can you hear me now?

I think that the band that won this fight is the best band I've ever heard. Sure they suck, but that's because you have no taste in music. Get with the times.

Re: His Last Few Reviews
i even prefer crappy, unclear, one sentence reviews... i could care less about votes, sure winning would be nice, but i get the exact same prize if i lose. and there will always be some dick who wants to be able to say they won songfight bad enough to waste their time revoting from all over town, or calling every friend and relative to vote for them. i'm more impressed with someone like King Arthur who must be at like 1,000,000 songs now. i dunno how many wins he has, i think ive personally seen one, but who cares? the dude has a million songsjast wrote:Yep, that's the way it works.chocolatechips wrote:It seems like the best feedback with this system is reading other people's reviews here on the board

Well, I'm certainly honored to know that somebody likes me better than they like some dick who wants to be able to say they won songfight bad enough to waste their time revoting from all over town, or calling every friend and relative to vote for them. On those cold, lonely nights, that'll be my consolation...
According to the database, 1003 songs, including some collabs, not including some instrumental things I did that didn't seem worth counting as songs written. And I have recordings of all of 'em, too... one real SF win, and I had to post to my high school reunion facebook page that I'd written a song about our high school reunion ("Hello My Old Heart") and that got me enough extra votes to squeeze into the lead for that one.
"Writing a thousand songs" has been my big life's goal since 1977 or so, and I finally got there this year...

For whatever it's worth, I actually enjoyed Torrentz' song quite a bit, and would not begrudge them their 23 votes, regardless of how disingenuously they were obtained. Ebola-cide, on the other hand, was just plain maudlin; it reminded me of something Papa Roach would do. I honestly hope that 32 people didn't actually consider this to be the best selection out of the fight, especially one this size.

Yes Ebola-Cide's song was terrible even taking into account my genre bias so I just found it rather obvious that they were cheating to win. And I think cheating to win a competition like this is just so ... lame that I had to comment on it. If there was a monetary prize I could understand. Cheating for money is the American way after all.MisterQuoons wrote:For whatever it's worth, I actually enjoyed Torrentz' song quite a bit, and would not begrudge them their 23 votes, regardless of how disingenuously they were obtained. Re: His Last Few Reviews
I actually Voted for Torrentz, that was before I knew you could pick more than one artist, this was my first time on here and I did tell a couple people that I was doing a song for this so what ever happend after that I have no idea, I really didnt care if I won or not, I just now found out about it. But In my mind I could care less if you like my stuff or if you dispise it, My music will never change because someone above or anyone dosn't like it. Im not here to hate or cheat, I know now to just post the song and Ill just show the song off through youtube or something, why the hell would I cheat on this? I love my music, in fact I have an interveiw with MC Lars in october for my songs and stuff so why would I even bother cheating. So before you say cheater know that. Sorry for a mix up. Torrentz in my mind won this.

Hmmm - not sure what that one is - I have never heard of Sam Kinisen.glennny wrote: The Sam Kinisen yell sample I could do without.
All of my sound effects come from a wonderful CD-ROM I bought back in 1998 called "4000 Sounds" made by Sprint Software of Richmond, Victoria. Best $5 I ever spent. I have used the same screams and punches in several songs over the years.
