Well I don't have an art account so I haven't been able to submit it. It's an ape on the telephone, lol

I was thinking of drawing Tom Baker talking to Koko via Skype but I couldn't be bothered to.

Looks like BLT had a similar idea so... minds think alike.

Just post it here.

I think someone should draw an ape holding a banana like a telephone.

I went with Matt Smith because he was on the phone next to the infamous call box, so that people that aren't in the know, will know it's Who. ;)

by the way, you made me laugh aloud. You just couldn't bring yourself to type "great" because I was in the equation. :P

Here are my quickly written reviews. I mainly focus on what can be done better hence the largely negative nature. Let us begin.

Berkeley Social Scene - The groove is nice but I think the mixing levels are off. There is a lot of guitar in the 1-5 khz which could be a little quieter. I feel the writing does not play to the singer's strengths. The best performed vocal line is "It's really not fair" and the worst is the jumble in the second half of the chorus. My best guess is that the singer would do better in a slightly lower register. I do like the solo.

Billy and the Psychotics - Amusing enough. The thoughts many of us may have had but clearly no musical content.

Caravan Ray - Nice smooth feel, tight mix, the flute is a nice addition. The lyrical content is a little weird as it skirts the line of scientifically interesting; Perhaps additional taxonomical information is warranted. Overall not overreaching and everything was done proficiently. Vote.

Cody Walker Jr. - Very generic riff, vocals maybe a little loud in the mix. The vocal performance is very close to being good, maybe some backing vocals would help? The solo goes on a little long and feels weird when the vocals cut back in over-top of it. The drum solo feels superfluous tacked onto the end of the song.

Cory Ag - Fairly good indie-style singing. The guitar playing sounds a little heavy for the breathy vocals. Very catchy chorus. With a little tighter mix this could be quite exquisite. Keep experimenting with the vocals and I'm confident they could be even better. Vote.

Hip Hop Anonymous - This was all thrown together on Saturday. There's no intro which makes the first verse sound a little awkward (especially since I don't even start on the tonic!). I need more production on the verses, specifically backing vocals would be helpful; normally I would lazily add a chorus with a volume envelope, but I didn't. The second verse works well and it's short enough considering the lack of content. Lastly, I like the drums in the outro.

Hostess Mostest - I like the intro but I'm a little put on edge from the harshness of the vocals, nothing a little practice couldn't fix. I don't think the juxtaposition of the staccato guitar against the rest of the music works properly. The drums are a little awkward from being off-time. It is well written but the execution of the last chorus is too loose to be that busy. The feel of the song is very nice. Vote.

Klownhole - Long intro starting with noise is not my cup of tea. The gravely vocal performance works well over the distorted guitar but it is too quiet in the mix. The high-resonanced filtered synth is a little loud when it comes in, since it is not a motive of the song it should be more subtle. This whole song sounds pretty cool but it dies in stagnation. It sounds like the same 10 seconds on repeat. Try mixing in more low-mids. The 1-5khz range is very loud here and it hurts me to listen to that guitar for six and a half minutes. If this song changed dynamically or harmonically I would vote for it.

Nick M. Soma - Very charming vocals. The intro guitar is a little loud. The bongos are enjoyable. The transition into the chorus feels awkward, maybe if you let the sound of the first verse fade down a little before ramping it up with all different instrumentation. I like the inclusion of the brass although there are some strangely dissonant moments with it. I don't like the guitar in the third verse, it feels a little formulaicly forced. I feel this is an above averagely mixed track but it should be mellowed out a little (especially in the last chorus). Vote.

Odilon Green - I'm amused by the 80's feel of instrumentation and vocals with vocoder and delay. The main problem here is the lack of variety. The joke feels over used by the end of the song. The rapping needs to settle down just a bit, the syllables are just a little quick for the beat. And the two pauses in the verse are awkward. This song could benefit from some dynamic variation.

Paco Del Stinko - That bass synth is freakin' cool. The distortion on the vocals might work if the mid-range was boosted while many of the specific elements work well I'm not convinced they work well together. Especially when the vocal are struggling in the first chorus under the guitar.

R. Mosquito - Like many songs this week, this song feels uninspired by the subject matter. I like the main riff, I feel like more could be done with it, whether it be variations or emphasis by layering it with other instruments. The part with "I know, I know..." would benefit from having delay on the vocals. The quiet outro sounds good but is strange in context of the rest of the song.

Smashy Claw - The resonance should be lessened on the guitar filter, subtly is best. This song has much more variation than many others I've heard, the vocals work well and it has a tight mix. The transition to the third verse is a little weak and I feel like there should be more development in the outro bit. I do love the "bass drop" at the end. Vote (despite the ubiqutious obnoxiousness of the guitar filter)

Toby Roktot - The singer feels very uncomfortable with the performance. It sounds like he's singing in the front of his mouth without utilizing the resonance of his throat and chest. The music is minimalistic which really focuses on the vocals. It's well written but puts too much pressure on an uncomfortable vocalist.

Perhaps it is not the best choice of words. After further listening let us revisit the riff:

The rhythm guitar, while having variation at the end of phrases, is largely a one measure loop. The effect provides a groove for the song but it does little melodically. This causes the melodic focus to be solely on the vocals (which is a very heavy burden to carry).

The drum solo makes sense now. Being a professional drummer you needed to add the drum solo because it's fun to play.

pshaw. that was Bass Noodling. MUSICAL bass noodling. And a humungous, gigantazoid Hook. What BatP has in spades this week is musical content and pizzaz! What we clearly lack is a song.

Thanks for typing a review for it, in all seriousness. :)

I thought the guitar, though poorly executed, was actually quite different.. Whole, step modulation, and 3 different 'riffs',you may call it....the,drum solo was just for,fun and lyrics were improv

One set of reviews? I'm not even in this fight, but come on, people! (OK, I'm in the next fight, but at this rate it will never go up. I guess I'd better see what I can do.)
