I've felt guilty for years for not doing more art, but paintings take me a long time. I've been doing a lot of multi-colored sharpie drawings with my kids, which lends itself to this task. Bright colors quick dry etc. I'm having fun drawing again.

Inflatable Vegetables

Vocals seem to be a bit low. Reminds me of 80's Euro Pop. Something along the lines of old Eurhythmics (probably misspelled that). Not sure what the topic is but don't really care. The shouting part of the chorus needs to be re-mastered in my opinion, maybe move the mic back when doing that part. Guitar work isn't too bad.

Didn't get as much processing done on the vocals as I would have liked, and also wanted to use a change in the music at certain places, but real life kept intervening so didn't work on this as much. I'm also not a singer but the chorus "came to me" sung and no one else was around...

Voice isn't bad at all. Is this about sex? Not sure. Guitar is cool. More like an idea than a song though.

Interesting rhythm. So you wanna let her go and then you "take it back"? I was wondering when I heard the first verse. "I don't mean that" seems slightly forced on the chorus. Maybe a tad more practice on that line was needed, not that the 9 days wasn't plenty or anything....Pretty cool drop though. Oh, and I like the guitars too. Possible

For some reason I thought of "Miami Vice" when this came on. You checked her alibi? You stalker you! Stars are fading and stuff, this one is serious! Well if you got girl problems I feel bad for you son, well, you get the point. For some reason I wanted to hear "Dagger in my heart" as opposed to "Dagger in my chest" or maybe I'm just used to hearing that. Interesting vocal doubling on the change part. Another retro vibe on this one.

I think the guitar needs to be re-eq'ed here. Also the non drum instruments seem to be going faster than the drum track. Did you say "monomaniac"? Suddenly I can't understand the words coming out of your mouth....I really hope the break is in another language or I'm losing it. This one seems like it would be better if the tempo and volume levels and eq was tightened up a bit.

Ok, I'm longing for....something here. Seems like longing music. Pining for a simpler time when....well when something. Nice rhythm guitar work on something that still feels wistful. Possible here.

Sounds like a movie opening at the beginning. Wait....the forest? Who....what...what's this song about? Where did that distorted guitar come from? I'm not even sure what this is about but you'd better take it baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! Set that monster free why don't you, set it free! Ok, back to a mellow rhythm. Interesting. Distored guitar part is well done. The end....errr...I mean slow part before the end is pretty well done.

This one has the volume kinda low....anyway nice change of pace with the vocal style on the verses. Not quite as into the "second" vocal part leading into the chorus. Nice work with the "and take it back" at the end. Cool guitar rhythm as well.

Barbies on the BBQ - This lies somwhere between haunting and goofy. The well layered instruments could probably benefit from being re-eq'd. Maybe a re-mix too.I like the chorus and bridge best.

Berkeley Social Scene - Nice progression and lean production. Glad I can't think of what the chorus reminds me of as I like it a bunch. The bridge is tops though with the synth lines adding a hint of classical music. Feels like it lets loose at the end too, offering up genuine rockitude.

Big Crouton - I like the subtle complexities of the seemingly straight up arrangement. And the delayed out face melting guitars too, of course. Bass is good but sounds like a guitar player playing bass. Eh, what can you do. Maybe a second, way heavy bridge after the quieter lead, and then into the chorus again might've been fun.

glennny - Mellow and manic somehow. Vocal work is excellent and well balanced. I thought this song was going to be more angry at the start, but dig where it goes. Good lead but I thought it was gong to lead into another chorus afterwards. I know, you can't help but wail away!

inflatable vegetables - Lonely guy at night music, maybe staring out from the backseat of a cab. At least during the verses. I like the guitarmonies but they are more Judas Priest than Queen, surprisingly. Odd ending and the calypso keyboard feels out of place. Good work though.

James Suttlemyre - Ah, the good 'ol days, tits included. I always enjoy how you manage to juuuuust play in time. Finger pickig is tasty and keeps it all warm. I like the 'need to walk' mood, but another verse wouldn't have hurt, offering up some more story.

Juveniles Crane - Short'n silly, like a girl I once knew.

Masterhyde - This is warm and pleasant, if perhaps lacking a chage from those two chords. The accents on some of your lyrical delivery are odd, more so than mine. I like the simple story and your voice has a mellow timbre that is pleasant to listen to.

Nick Soma - Very brave. We should have a Epic Fight here someday. I don't know the entire story, but it probably doesn't matter. I like the second part of this more after several listens and the end section remains my fave, hands and lighters held aloft. Great vocal work on the second to end especilly.

Paco del Stinko - Cheap'n dumb, like a girl I once knew.

Thanks for the frisbee - Very sweet. Handclaps would fit during the chorus but that would lift this to a more poppy feel instead of the more intimate one here. Love the vocal work and all the little 'chhs' and 'bmmps' that I didn't hear until I listened on headphones. Better with age, man. Heh.

toby roktot - This soars along nicely, hints of 70s but not retro feeling. Guitar work and progression is tasty. I wonder if this might have been better served by leaving the drums out. Either that or build it all the way up, I'm sure this song would hold up simply or arranged more.

Tuners Union - Glad you entered. Of course some tasty keys come in. Of course the vocals are delicious. I really enjoy the gohold back feel of the later half, then finding its stride. It might be an unfinished arrangemet, maybe, but works. It breathes throughout.

The Worldly Self-Assurance - Friz saves the day, but I love ya Peedy! This song threatens to wander away at times but manages to hang onto itself. I wonder if a rocked out version of this, maintaining the melody, would succeed. No matter, good vibe and feel, the chorus patting my back like a reassuring friend.

Nick Soma - Intro very cinematic. Bells. Like the guitar tone. Then part 2 kicks in - like it better. . Part 3 - moody, brooding. Part 4 - like the the high bg parts - nice song.
Paco del Stinko - Really like intro - arrangement. Little-little silly. Always good guitar tones. Interesting solo.
Thanks for the frisbee - Verses gentle. Did you do all the percussive vox parts live, or looped? So many layers!
toby roktot - Drum machine is distracting. When you go to the Spanish part/ percussion, it fits the song better.
Tuners Union - Sorry mix is so soft. This is a sweet song. Nice harmonies. Parts get a little noisy at end.
The Worldly Self-Assurance - Another gentle song. I really like the chorus feel. Esp like the clarinet-y keyboard part.

Barbies on the BBQ
This mix rather hurts my head, though there's some really cool elements to it, namely the crazy ass effects on the vox in the chorus. Everything sounds underwater. That said, the song is pretty cool, and seems very 80s. Vocoder (or whatever it is) seems really excessive in the bridge. Pretty cool all around, but a bit difficult to listen to.

Lovin' me that synth. Chorus is doing very little for me, but I love everything else so far. Chorus isn't bad either, it just doesn't really grab me, whereas the rest of the song does. Keys add a nice element in the second verse. Alright, I think I take back what I said about the chorus (ha! see what I did?) It's solid. Sweet solo. Bridge hard panning of synth and guitar kind of bothers me, and the bridge doesn't really do anything for me. I think I'd prefer it coming right into the chorus from the guitar solo. Anyways, minor complaints aside, this will likely be my favorite this week. Really good song. Definitely a vote.

Possibly my least favorite entry to date (though some of my old ones are probably objectively worse). I kinda like some of the riffs though, and I do admittedly love my noise section into the drop. Apart from that, it does pretty well nothing for me.

Intro feels a touch aimless until some more instruments come in. Song has a nice vibe, but I expect that I won't remember anything about it by the time it's done. Like the bgv's in the chorus though. Bgv's thoughout are probably my favorite thing about this. Cool solo, though probably a bit longer than it has reason to be. Plenty of cool licks in it though.

That sweeping synth is mighty cool. Lead guitar isn't bad, but really clutters things when it's playing. Seems like it should be more spacey/ethereal. Overall this is something I wouldn't expect to like, but is actually pretty cool. Oooh, you went full Queen with that harmonized guitar. Very cool. I'm a bit confused by most of what comes after the first awesome harmonized guitars. But I can't complain too much. Sweet song.

Very cool vibe. Vox are probably a bit too far forward. Whoa, didn't expect the punkish break. Vox sit better with the full band. I dig the chorus, but strongly preferred the creepier vibe from earlier. And we're back to what I like. Cool. Sweet vox. This is hella cool. Does the (Pt. IV) suggest that this is part of an epic quadrilogy of sorts? If so, could you link me to the other songs that are part of this? Cause that was a really cool song, and I'd like to check out the rest.

Love those intro vox. Very fun. Big fan of that section, and it coming back after the chorus. Really nice bass tone too. Fantastic synth solo, into a interesting build leading to a killer solo that is everything I could've hoped for. Shit, I was hoping this would keep going for another full chorus, and hopefully go out on the awesome 'leedleleedleleedle' section. Anyways, great song. Big fan of this one. There's a couple other really strong songs this week, but this one is just perfect to me, and is the definite favorite this week. Also, curious how you get your tone for that solo. It's hella intense, and a really cool sound that I would love to rip off from time to time.

Small gripe, but I've always hated the sound of just about every acoustic pickup I've ever heard. Mic'd acoustics always sound better to me. It's less of an issue for me as the instrumentation picks up. I dig the chorus.
Not a lot to say about this one, but I like it quite a bit. Very cool vocal arrangement at the end. Great vibe all around.

Reverb seems fairly excessive. Nice enough song though. Guitar is a bit harsh in the upper mid-range. I usually kind of hate drums panned to one side or the other, but I actually kind of dig the stereo balance of this track. I dig the chorus. Quite nice overall.

Beautiful vocals. Brilliantly crafted harmonies. Love that climb from the keys, though it could probably have been put more into the background after the climb. This is overall one of the coolest things I've heard on songfight. Great chord choices, brilliant harmonies, great keys, just overall quite splendid.

Interesting synth choice, that works pretty well, but might have a bit too much high end. Nice chorus. Sweet classical solo. Timing of a few notes seemed a bit suspect though. I really like the vocal layering in the chorus. Also, is there a different person singing the choruses and the verses? I prefer the chorus singer, but it might mostly be the layering. Not sure how I feel about the synth. It works perfectly at times, and stands out like a sore thumb at others. Very cool overall.
