A Broken Monster Update:
I have been working on some new tunes (including "Under Angels" and "Exist To Hurt") and so far so good. But I have been struggling with recording difficulties. I'm working with a new computer and we have yet to become friends. Hopefully by week's end I'll have some of substance to show everyone.

Writing continues on Broken Monster including "My Own Snuff Film" and "E.I.G.H.T." Seeing as the latter is one of this week's SF titles, I think I need to get a move on. Productionwise with the current PC, I can bang out some clean vocals but my usual acoustic guitar stuff will end up way too flanged for my liking. So this is a call to the guitarists who want to help. Send some rhythms my way and then I'll see about adding some vox then passing them onto bassists and drummers (or in some other sequence of these same events).

So please, send me some stuff to start with and I'll run with it. You can send all materials to termitehollowATyahooDOTcom.

I fall on black days every once and a while. I know how it is. Trying to explain to people that you aren't mad at them, that you just aren't feeling well. The irrational hate, angry inside for typically mundane things like loud noises that have always been there but are starting to have some kind of twisted meaning. Everyone in the world is keeping you down to better their potential. It can be a dark place and its even a place you can't take your friends. They get pushed out, if not just for frustration of not being able to help you.

Enough about that though...we know it CAN be helped and it's good to cut through that haze and get back into music. I'd be glad to help in any way that I can. Just let me know. I'm moving a little slow right now due to a busy life but still very willing to help in any way.

Things have been moving kinda slow on this front but I haven't given up. I have the lyrics for about 8 songs written and I wanted 10 at least so I'm almost there. Then I figure I'll post the lyrics here and people can tell me if there are any they would like to work on.

I've gotten seriously back into the songwriting, as in the last month I've written for TFC, Phunt Your Friends, Luke Henley and Deaf Sale. This has really helped. I just need to be able to write these songs. These are harder because they delve into darker subjects. An example- "Justified" is about times when i used to feel like if I died than the world wouldn't miss me. See, these are a bit harder so part of me still balks when it comes to writing them. But I'm determined to have the lyrics done by year's end, which is extremely close. Maybe I should post the lyrics that I already have. It may motivate me on the other songs.

Hmmm...good question. Okay, here is what I'm currently envisioning:

I'm still in the middle of really getting back into music. Since this all happened I've only recorded 4 songs, 2 of them being covers. Each time I was motivated by a need for the song to be done. With 2 of the tunes, they were part of a Secret Santa present. 1 was for the Eagles fight (and that had the extra motivation of finally getting to do music with Aurora) and the other one was this week's Deaf Sale entry, which I kinda fell into. As for doing a song for myself, just because, it's been harder. And I think it'll be even harder with the subject matters tocuhing so close to home. But I have been able to songwrite alot recently (writing lyrics for Luke Henley, Phunt your friends, J$ and others). So I think with Broken Monster, I would want the people who want to help to break off into groups after choosing which set of lyrics they wanna work with and then work on the tune, while getting some input from me. And I should sing vocals on at least one of the songs. Small victories, right.

How does that sound?

Also:
I finished writing lyrics for tune #9- "Diamonds of Lucifer" and I'm almost done with #10- the tentatively titled "Escape Velocity". I just need to polish up the chorus and the bridge. Once I'm done doing that and can catch a second's peace, I'll post up all 10. I'm also thinking of an 11th track (mostly a title track) but that's an idea in its infancy.

On this particular song, I notice that some of the half-verses have lines 2 and 4 rhyme, others don't... would you have any objections if I build more of a consistent rhyme scheme into the lyric?

To answer your question:

The sound I want for this project will really come from the collaborations. But from the lyrics, you can figure it lends itself to being a rather dark album, so perhaps some gothic sounds would do it justice. But I'll all for experimentation so anything goes really.

It's funny that you would propose the question of how tightly you have to stay to the lyric. Your cover of my "Between the Rain and the Swallowing Earth" moved around some of the lyrics and really tightened it up as a whole. Now, I play the song more like your version. The experience taught me that it's okay for there to be some adjustment to the lyrics. (Note the operative word some, don't go all crazy )
