These songs were made to be played

Post by wages »

I've got TWO entirely different songs for this title. One is a power pop punk tune about skanky women that play our hero who was 'made to be played' but it just don't feel right (because it's "power pop punk"), so I wrote the second one which is more industrial hard rock and is lyrically better (its about the role of instruments in creating a tune; ergo "six rusty strings were made to be played"). Both songs have potential if treated right, so anyone interested in working on or taking over either tune, let me know. I'm still working on demos that I'm willing to share. :)

Here's the power pop punk demo:

And here are the lyrics/chords:
Made to be Played (standard tuning)

VERSE 1 (A-F-C-G barred x4; then open x2; then F)
you can't give up, you can't give in
don't give up hope
even when she comes around and makes you feel
like a dope

commadere your obligation
before she catches on to the notion

you're a sap for a piece of ass

CHORUS (C-F-Chigh-G x3, F-G)
you were made, you were made to be played
you've been played all your life
you were made, you were made to be played
you've been played all your life

VERSE 2
you'd sell your soul to the devil if you knew
it would work
but skanky bitches are the closest thing
you have got

those breasty girls live to bleed you dry
take her out, and then she takes you for a ride

once again you've been played

BRIDGE (A-C-G-D x4, F-G)
you can say... goodbye
to all the things... you like
calm down... it's alright
until you wake... realize
it's not a dream... it's your life

CHORUS x2

And here is the industrial demo. BTW the crap after the bridge is... crap. There's a riff in there I intend to use, but the improv execution is piss poor for sure. You know the drill: let me know if you're interested in working on this tune.

Demo: http://www.philwages.com/music/Made_to_ ... k_demo.mp3

Made to be Played

VERSE 1 (E-D-C)
Six rusty strings oxidize every note
They've been there like your antidote
and through all of the emotional rides
all the tears and fears and lies you write

CHORUS 1 (A-A#-C-G)
Six rusty strings, made to be played
speaking words that couldn't be sang
a hidden friend in release of pain
Six rusty strings, made to be played

VERSE 2
A hunk of wood bruised & abused
Desperate to hold on to its tune
Sometimes begging for its freedom
Sometimes relishing in its home

CHORUS 2
This hunk of wood was made to be played
so beautiful the way it is stained
the more you beat it the less pain you taste
This hunk of wood was made to be played

BRIDGE/OUTRO (E-G#-E-A-C-G then CHORUS riffage)
Soundwaves come crashing down
Every minor a cymbal of sound
Every major a moment of hope
Every beat like skipping stones

CHORUS 3
poetic Harmony, Made to be played
a revelation of how to be saved
you come to terms with your drums
I come to it: made to be played
