Phlubububub - Threads! A Musical Odyssey in Four Movements: Jimmy and Ruth/Threnody for the Victims of Sheffield/Under a Cold Sky/A New Normal
Pt 1: Jimmy and Ruth (161 bpm)
Well lemme tell you bout Ruthie and Jimmy her man
Getting busy by the cliffs in his four door sedan
Now it's a few weeks later and she's dropping the bomb
Jim, you'll be a daddy and I'll be the mom
Well the news lit him up like a mushroom cloud
Baby we'd better exchange some vows
We'll need a place to live, and a cradle too
Is it a boy or a girl? Too soon to have a clue
Well Ruthie and Jimmy were watching TV
And they saw some crazy news on the BBC
Now the Russkys and the Yanks were having a scuffle
And it was turning into a great big kerfluffle
The Yanks dropped bombs and the Russkys a nuke
Everybody's panicked, I'll admit I'm spooked
Don't worry bout a thing baby, let's go to bed
I hope we don't wake up to a...code red
Ruth and Jimmy's new place needs an overhaul
She's crying as she peels the old paint off the walls
Don't worry Ruthie baby it'll be okay
This'll all blow over, we'll see better days!
One! EMP Off over the north sea
Two! A bit closer at finningly
Run jimmy run jimmy run jimmy run jimmy run jimmy run!
Pt 2: Threnody for the Victims of Sheffield (free time)
[Instrumental]
Pt 3: Under A Cold Sky (110 bpm)
The wreckage of our nation
The stench of burnt flesh permeates the air
The cough of radiation sickness
We're here but we're barely there
We dine on roasted carrion
Sub zero temperatures in mid July
The ruin of the agrarian economy
There's more for whom remain, the more that die
We shiver under a cold sky
The ultraviolet cataracts our eyes
We shiver under a cold sky
We suffer and we die
Pt 4: A New Normal (110 bpm to decrescendo)
The stench, the reek, the dead in the street
The ill and infirm, just feed for the worms
Conditions austere, lose all you held dear
You're numb to the fear, what was, now disappears
You'll fuck for a rat, there's no turning back
You steal and you loot, the guards start to shoot
Disintegration spreads, she's raped for some bread
Unravel the threads, don't bury your dead
With one minute left, a stillborn grotesque
Now freeze frame the screen: cut off with her scream

Sleep
by See-Man-Ski
you tiptoed, tiptoed
quietly across the room
thinking that you'd go unnoticed
but I was watching you
you whispered, whispered
something that I thought you knew
it's too god damn early for us to get used to
you crept in, crept in
slipped yourself between the sheets
made yourself comfortable
at the expense of me
and I can't take it much more
so go back to bed
and don't get up until we've said

Escape the Grid
by Stacking Theory
There must be some kind of way out of here
free from the anger and the hate and the fear
not everything in life should be so grim
yeah there’s got to be room for some hope and some joy and blind optimism
There must be some kind of mistake here
I’m trapped by all the precious things I once held dear
All my useless measures have become my weights
And they’re dragging me down turn my smiles into frowns and I’ve got to escape!
I’m trying to escape the grid
because I don’t like the shape I’m in
There must be some kind of lever to use
I’ve got a broken system that I’m desperate to move
I need to find a way to break the patterns in me
just give me some length and a fulcrum and maybe call Archimedes
I’m trying to escape the grid
because I don’t like the shape I’m in
But now I’m standing by the ocean - it makes me feel alright
the sun is setting and a seagull glows in the golden light
I escaped the grid
I found a new shape to be
I escaped the grid

Third Cat - "Some Truths"
verse 1&2 (90 bpm)
limping through my life
robotic words of love
light fire 'till the moon dies
but it still floats above
single dose of hope
neurotic blasts of fear
brain leaks fog in my eyes
and the secret's not so clear
chorus 1 (135 bpm)
finding out some truths are too much to agree to
instrumental segue (135-138 bpm)
verse 3 (92 bpm)
signals sing between
chaotic bursts of noise
sounds like you treat our lives
like a child treats their toys
chorus 2 (138 bpm)
finding out some truths are too much to agree to
bridge (69 bpm)
when alice looks at me i can see i'm not what she hoped I'd be
when alice looks at me i can see i'm not what she hoped I'd be
when alice looks at me i can see i'm not what she hoped I'd be
instrumental segue (34.5 bpm)
chorus 3, 4, & 5 (138 bpm)
she says she's finding out some truths are too much to agree to

The Silver Lining
by Brother Baker
This is it, this is it
All things fairly exchanged
I don't have time to fan this flame
Not this fast, not like this
There is nothing I would blame
Nothing is worse, just not the same
The silver lining dropped into my lap
It's overwhelming
I'll manage fine, I'm learning that
I was underselling myself
I'm always underselling myself
A heavy heart, a heavy time
I've shirked my burden
Acknowledged hurting
And now I'm turning
When perfection's not an option
I'll still try and deliver what I can
I'm not doing this for you
My heart's not happy with every facet of everything
But my heart's happy now, and that's new
The silver lining dropped into my lap
It's overwhelming
I'll manage fine, I'm learning that
I was underselling myself

A Lost Love and a Roving Eye
Timothy Patrick Hinkle
Something in my eye, something in my eye
The world as one did cry out in pain and rising terror
The worms so very small at once attacked us all
Nothing to do but fall down in our unplanned obsequence
As they burrowed inside us
Nothing remained to hide us from ourselves
See them swim through the air, they’re descending to glare at me
These floating eyes of God
I remember the days when we’d say you were crazy
Inventing things so very odd
Just a fact of life now
We’ve accepted it somehow
The gaze from which we’re never free
Every other eye from it’s socket did fly
While we screamed out goodbye in anguish and confusion
Now eyes of every scale from butterfly to whale
Watch from the air to curtail rebellious behavior
In our minds images gather
We see things that we’d rather that we had not seen
Shared a coffee last night with my love blocked from sight
By the mask that I wear when I sleep
My love still has both eyes, have the floaters got wise
To the secret we’re trying to keep
Just a matter of time
‘Til they uncover our crime
And that will mean the end of me
When a sight is seen that displeases our masters
All the people gather 'round
All are compelled to stare at the offending party
With our looks the villain we’ll hound
As our vacant eye cavities align on what they cannot see
A beam of fire erupts out of each staring cyclops head
Somewhere an eye falls to the ground, unseen, but does it make a sound?
Unseeing, as are all the eyes belonging to the dead
See them swim through the air, they’re descending to glare at me
These floating eyes of God

Waiting for the Crash
by Sober
*note: links below for references some folks may not be familiar with. I took all the linked photos during my 2012 deployment
Hear the jodies ringin’ in the back of your mind, singin’
C47 comin down the line
It's a nice thought, gettin home overnight
But a week in a cot on the Queen Mary deck is alright
And if it goes down there ain't a thing that the devil could do
To hold a candle to what some of these [boys/folks/people] have been through
If you ever get used to sleeping in a real bed
You keep on living your life as if you thought that you were already dead
The rotors kick up dust til everybody’s blind
With the 27 club in the back of your mind
You scroll until you find some Stevie or Cash
In case it’s still playing when they find your body after the crash
You played some old time gospel with the Tennessee Guard
Taught some open chords on a broken guitar
You line up to board that C17
With the Lewis-McChord stripe as bright and as green as can be
Now your life has some weight and you've got stories to tell
And the only thing it cost you was a trip into hell
But there are gaps there you don't remember at all
Because your brain knows that some things aren't ever ever safe to recall
