Pitchfork Nation

Post by dirgetheband »

You are so cool. I am a tool to be used and put away wet.
Your words, they are neat. When I write I'm a freak whom everyone turns their nose up at.

You're the self-appointed judge of hip high-fives and hugs.
And God knows where we'd be if only we all could see this world through your eyes.

At the end of a long day of my slog I fire up Pitchfork Nation.
It's there that I find my voice or some kind of shared emotional high.

You're the self-appointed judge of hip high-fives and hugs.
And God knows where we'd be if only we all could see this world through your eyes.

Jesus says turn the other cheek
Jesus says blessed are the meek
For they shall inherit the Earth
We'll I hope it's soon ‘cause things are getting worse

You can't say anything
When did everyone's skin
Become so thin?

It's like a flock of sheep following a cause
With a puritan’s belief and litany of laws
They’re always poised to defend their sacred cows
Intolerance is what comes out of their mouths

All this moral outrage
Is emblematic of this day and age

These know-it-alls full of righteous indignation
They're making us into the pitchfork nation

You can’t compromise with the baying mob
With their misplaced worth they all love playing God
The fingers point, regardless of the truth
And without account for the burden of the proof

It's just my 2 cents
So why take offence?
It's common sense

Pitchfork Nation - Paco del Stinko

The devil is orange his followers red
Green is the color of all the blood that bled
Bring forth the hate bring forth the pain
Too hard to fathom too hard to explain oh yeah

Out in the street pitchfork in hand full of hate and making demands
What you do if you get your way I think it's time that we start to pray

You vilify them obstruct for no reason
Commit your own crime and blame them for treason
Spew about values you damned hypocrites
You cheat on your wives with underage kids oh yeah

Out in the street pitchfork in hand full of hate and making demands
What you do if you get your way I think it's time that we start to pray

Light up the torches and storm the castle
If you really think that it will change anything
Maybe it will, but I say it won't
Go on then and see what your revolution brings

It used to be white hats or so we thought
Mythological subscription that all of us bought
Open your eyes and get frightened
We lapped up the lies so few are enlightened yeah oh yeah

Out in the street pitchfork in hand full of hate and making demands
What you do if you get your way I think it's time that we start to pray

Start to pray - Start today
You are going down with me
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

PITCHFORK NATION
Micah Sommersmith

You’re a handful of kids with a simple dream
You want to make it big in the indie rock scene
Got drums and a bass, and four guitars
And you’ve recorded an album that’ll make you stars

But it’s gotta get heard, and you’ve gotta be seen
And you know of a certain online magazine
Whose seal of approval will get you far
When its legions of readers know who you are

So you ship the album, you send out all the press kits
Then you load that web page up, refresh and refresh it

And Pitchfork gives you a 9.2
And now Pitchfork Nation is in love with you
Called you “slyly sublime, and archly aloof”
And your digital sales go through the roof
Pitchfork gave you that great review
Now you got thousands of new fans devoted to you
You find yourselves showered with praise and adoration
‘Cause when you’ve got Pitchfork, you’ve got Pitchfork Nation

You knew that that review was gonna make or break ya
Just look what it could do for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

Fresh from the high of your debut record
You sit down to pound out your sophomore effort
You’re feeling good, you’re feeling inspired
Your dreams are wilder, your ambitions are higher

Oh yeah, it's gonna be bigger, it's gonna be better
You hire a brass band, the sound is epic
Cellos and theremins and a gospel choir
It’s like Neutral Milk Hotel meets Arcade Fire
So you ship the album, you send out all the press kits
Then you load that web page up, refresh and refresh it

And Pitchfork gives you a 2.4
And Pitchfork Nation walks out the door
Calls it “a bloated collection of trivial songs"
Said that "music lovers can move along”
Pitchfork gave you that crummy score
Now nobody cares about you anymore
Called you “aesthetically bankrupt, and intellectually hollow”
And what Pitchfork dishes, Pitchfork Nation swallows

You cry, you wonder why, but darlings just remember this
Despite how hard we try, we can’t all be the Decemberists

Pitchfork holds your fate in its hands
'Cause Pitchfork Nation follows Pitchfork’s commands
Who to see live, what to download next
Every review is like a sacred text
And you don’t want to care, but you have to care
If you want to be the next Bon Iver
We may not like it, but here’s the situation:
Pitchfork reigns, and we live in Pitchfork Nation

They’re taking all of the jobs
Soon there’ll be no more
Then they’ll take your benefits
And move in right next door

What are you gonna do
To turn this tide away
You know it must be true
We print it every day

Welcome to Pitchfork Nation
Take up arms ‘gainst immigration
Tabloid media’s explanation
For this current situation
Fuelling the nation’s fear
That they’re coming over here

Stagnant pay in your pocket
Inflation’s on the rise
Now don’t you look too closely
We don’t like prying eyes

Keep them peeled for foreigners
They took your hard-earned cash
Nothing to do with bankers
And their economic crash

Welcome to Pitchfork Nation
Take up arms ‘gainst immigration
Tabloid media’s exploitation
Of this current situation
Fuelling the nation’s fear
That they’re coming over here

Point at someone to blame
To distract them from our game
Point at someone to blame
To distract them from our game

Welcome to Pitchfork Nation
Take up arms ‘gainst immigration
Tabloid media’s explanation
For this current situation
Fuelling the nation’s fear
That they’re coming over here

Forty-six percent ain’t quite enough;
someone’s gonna claim the ballot box was stuffed.
Take to the streets, start some fires.
Say all the county clerks are liars.
No one likes to lose, fair and square.
Better to think the result was unfair
No sign of fraud, but they don’t care;
Spread conspiracy theories on the air.
Pitchfork nation, disqualification for the slightest spoken gaffe.
Pitchfork nation, demand incarceration for the whole damn campaign staff.

Any buffoon with a Twitter account
Can agitate for another recount.
Call the opponent corrupt and impious
Blame hanging chads, blame media bias.
Head downtown to demonstrate.
Throw some rocks; stay out late.
They can’t accept their electoral fate.
Four more years of fear and hate.
Pitchfork nation, take a vacation, ‘til the losers know they’ve lost.
Pitchfork nation, leave this location, ‘til this fake rebellion’s quashed.

Show disdain for everyone who doesn’t think like you do.
All your troubles must be caused by the other side’s voodoo.

Back in 1861
They didn’t like the vote, so they grabbed their guns.
Marched themselves all off to war;
though they had nothing worth fighting for.
A few years later—a million dead men.
The South ain’t never gonna rise again.
This November, let’s not pretend
There’s any good way that this can end.
Pitchfork nation, when will we awaken? Evidently not this year.
Pitchfork nation, end the frustration, the resentment, and the fear.

Pitchfork Nation by Pepper Jane

I won't chase you down
This is not a pitchfork nation
It's a declaration
I will be patient

Feel like I've lost you
They say make hay when the sun shines
Instead I pay the cost to
And that I gotta disregard the grape vines
Look out on a different view
They say believe half of what you see
A fancy frame not a star spangled noose
I can't wait to feel the serendipity

I won't hunt you down
This is not a pitchfork nation
It's more than an incantation
Instead I will be patient

I won't drag you 'round
This is not a pitchfork nation
It's not inebriation (I'm high on life!)
And I will remain patient

I won't tie you down (I can't)
This is not a pitchfork nation
It's not incarceration (it's freedom)
And I will be patient

I won't seek you out
They say make hay when the sun shines
This is not a pitchfork nation
Disregard the grape vines
This is a proclamation
They say believe half of what you see
I will be patient

I won't smoke you out
This is not a pitchfork nation
We can't even have a conversation
But graciously...
I will be patient
Everything is about perspective.

Flaming Tiger says:

You can’t hide from the village in the middle of night.
When they get a little evil inside, you either
lock it up tight or open up and fight --
Listen to the people decide, and let it ride. Do you
want to take a taste of hate or do you take the bait
And break out from the chains and change your pace?
You can see them on the hills; they’re coming up.
Are you running, do you stand up?

We all let ‘em get strong; we let it go on too long
And now the hope is gone. Pitchfork Nation!

You don’t want to take flight but what’s the price?
They demonize, you realize? You recognize
it only ends one way,
and you can see ‘em from a mile away.
So you write it all down so they know what the truth is.
You can’t reason with the crew 'cause it's ruthless.
You can’t hide from the village in the middle of night
when you know they have the devil inside.
