OUR FORFEITED FRIENDS

by Macaque Attack

Verse 1
Know my forum admin who kills off flaming,
for online gaming and he's in Berlin.
But who’s that guy at Number 5?
Looked him in the eye but walked on by.
Subtle nod to a geezer as he took a breather,
from his bench press fever preceding a seizure.
Don't mean to be rude, don't like to intrude,
Only spoke to the dude, in a WhatsApp Group.

Chorus 1
Isolation's our fixation, how society ends.
Detached, divided, from our forfeited friends.
Rejection's our selection, it's how tolerance ends.
Separated, severed, from our forfeited friends.

Verse 2
Bright ambulance lights cut through the night,
screams out of sight and out of mind.
Collar up, head down, and headphones loud,
as I push on to town, drive through the crowd.
Back now on my street, lights pulse, sirens bleat,
No one there to grieve, as they drape the sheet.
No neighbours came, no one to blame,
But all the same I wish I'd got her name.

Chorus 2
Isolation's our fixation, how society ends.
Detached, divided, from our forfeited friends.
Rejection's our selection, it's how tolerance ends.
Separated, severed, from our forfeited friends.

Verse 3
There's a nagging feeling that we're all concealing,
palms sweat, mind reeling, it's quite revealing.
Sunday lunch bemoaned in the family home.
Who'll be first to groan, and check their phone.
The draw of the newsfeed makes us succeed,
Taking social backseats, our minds incomplete.
Gotta break this madness, re-colour this blandness,
rethink our process, and step back to progress.

Chorus 3
Besotted and devoted to social media feeds,
the digital detachment of a world through a screen.
Echo chamber living, I can choose who to be.
Anonymous, faceless, behind my smokescreen.
Isolation's our fixation, how society ends.
Detached, divided, from our forfeited friends.
Rejection's our selection, it's how tolerance ends.
Separated, severed, from our forfeited friends.

Our Forfeited Friends
by Lichen Throat

I never called;
I never wrote.
I raised my drawbridge;
I filled my moat.
I sold my car;
I ordered in.
Drank nothing but
White wine and gin.

At first my pals
Came by sometimes,
But then the doorbell
Seldom chimed.
So I no longer
Can pretend
I’m not forfeiting
All my friends.

I sleep all day;
I stay up late.
I eat too much;
I’m gaining weight.
Ain’t got a girl;
Ain’t got a job.
I’m getting rust
On my doorknob.

But I won’t change;
I’ll stay this way.
No, I won’t change,
And I won’t pray.
So I won’t ever
Make amends,
Although it costs
Me all my friends.

Our Forfeited Friends
by WreckdoM

I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
My arms are tired from all the hugging.
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
My palm is sore from all the high fives.
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
No time to drink in between the toasting.
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
An extra set of fingers always in my fries.
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
My head is spinning from all this gossip.
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
My face hurts from all these laughs.
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
I can't afford another round of mimosas.
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
I'm not binge watching or petting my cat

Friends til the end, but the ending is nigh.
Friends thick and thin, but my weight is just fine.
No need to text, I am in for the night, I'm alright
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
I'm just not going out tonight
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
No not again
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
No not again
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
I didn't go over and I didn't go over again.
"perhaps the most offensive and disturbing image I've ever heard in a song" - Hans Gruber
