You Stopped Fighting
by Lichen Throat

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.
You already have one foot out the door.
On this cool October night,
We should be getting ready for a fight.
But you stopped fighting.
Just shrug and close your eyes,
And nothing rectifies
All I’ve done to make you so sad.

Tell me I’ve been staying out too late
Or doing something else that you hate.
I can’t stand to feel ignored,
So throw me overboard.
But you stopped fighting.
Just shrug and close your eyes,
And nothing rectifies
All I’ve done to make you so sad.

Hate is not the opposite of love.
Hate is not the opposite of love.
Hate is not the opposite of love.
The opposite of love is indifference.

Don’t walk away, don’t walk away from me.
I’m so afraid that you have come to see
That I can do no more,
So you’ll just leave me sobbing on the floor.
‘Cause you stopped fighting.
Just shrug and close your eyes,
And nothing rectifies
All I’ve done to make you so sad.

Hey it's me, been trying to find you
Heard about the things that you've been going through
I know you're looking for someone to talk to
But I can't speak, 'cause I live inside you
And I sit by and watch any longer
You used to be stronger
It used to go beyond her
You're sitting every day hoping for something better
When you won't pick up your feet and avoid the things you do instead of just
Living a lie
Just to get by
You think you're making progress, but you gave up the fight
This ain't you or even what you meant to be
So take some time think and listen to me
Listen to me!

Let's take it back
Early last year
You were sitting on the fence,
Had a hurdle to be cleared
It wasn't easy, but no one said it should be
You just had to push forward, see and come through strong
But what's wrong
Is you sat and did nothing
You numbed all that pain and it just got disgusting
And you really think that it was last year it happened?
Try again, it's been five years and passing
You need to think about the fact this life is running out
This isn't just a practice round
You get one try, goodbye, don't waste it
Maybe it's time to stand up and face it.

Hey man relax, it's over
Can't you feel the weight lifted up off your shoulder
It's hard now, but listen: It only gets better
Take it one day, one step, one breath, breath in...
Don't ever make me come at you like this again
