Circle of Titles IX
Post your lyrics for the latest Circle of Titles songs here! Mine isn't done yet, but the lyrics are, so I'll get it started!
Fisheye
by Jon Eric
from a title provided by Mike Lamb
It's been a shitty year, but at least it's over
No, wait, it's only mid-July
I've been bailing out the water with teaspoons
But it never stopped rising, and it's up to my eye
I've tried revilles and smelling salts but the nightmare never ends
We only see the world as through a fisheye lens
I'm glued to my phone
I'm fighting alone
We only see each other through a fisheye lens
You took a plate of sawdust and made it fragrant
But I wouldn't want to eat it raw
No amount of the stuff will ever feel like enough
To satisfy the gaping maw
I've tried revilles and smelling salts but the nightmare never ends
We only see the world as through a fisheye lens
The more I read what this calamity's about
The more the camera dollies in while it zooms out
The closer in you come, the more the image warps
We're all assembling the same exquisite corpse
It's been a shitty year, but at least it's over
No, wait, it's only late July
And there's no guarantee that we'll suddenly be
Okay when 2021 comes by
I've tried reveilles and smelling salts but the nightmare never ends
We only see the world as through a fisheye lens
I'm glued to my phone
I'm fighting alone
We only see each other through a fisheye lens
We only see each other through a Vaselined fisheye lens
We barely see each other

Far Removed
Pigfarmer Jr
Title provided by Jan Krueger (Jast)
I asked the sun to tell me why he shines
On a world so full of all this pain
He said fools hide in the darkness
He can't bare to be the blame
It's crazy how we can hide our minds
Convince ourselves the world is only night
Blame our problems on everyone else
Never walking to the light
Far removed from the things we say
When we fight on line
Far removed, no, we can't be brave
When we forget to be kind
I asked the moon why she disappears
Why she takes her moonlight from the sky
She said the truth isn't always pretty
It's easy to give in to the lie
We all like what the mirror says
An echo chamber telling us tall tales
The other side is full of hatred
But neither of us can pierce the veil
Far removed from the things we say
When we fight on line
Far removed, no, we can't be brave
When we forget to be kind
I log into Facebook and all I see
Arguments with people getting mad at me
I walk out my house look at the people here
These stupid disagreements seem to disappear
Far removed from the things we say
When we fight on line
Far removed, no, we can't be brave
When we forget to be kind
When we forget to be kind
Log off and learn to be kind

Re: Circle of Titles VIII
Zodiac Weeping
by Lichen Throat
Title provided by Reve and Ujn
On the last day of fall in ’68,
He drove to the lovers’ lane,
And he shot them both in an act of hate,
Or was he just insane?
Then, next summer, on the 4th of July,
He did it all again.
As the fireworks faded from the sky,
The blood dried on their skin.
Is the Zodiac weeping when he thinks of his crimes,
Or does he smile when we say his name?
Is he always happy to remember old times,
Or does he lie awake all night in shame?
So tell me, is the Zodiac weeping?
David and Betty Lou, Michael and Darlene,
Bryan and Cecilia, and Paul in his yellow cab:
All the lives they should have lived,
But now they’ll never have.
He sent lots of cards and letters,
That couldn’t be decoded.
The cops never got him in fetters,
So he smugly gloated.
Every year and every new book
Expanded his mystique.
The victims just became a hook
To sell Time and Newsweek.
Is the Zodiac weeping when he thinks of his crimes,
Or does he bask in his fame?
Is he always happy to remember old times
As if it’s just a game?
So tell me, is the Zodiac weeping?

The Wizard Hats of Night
gizo
Title provided by crumpart
the titles were delivered like a falling star
and I instinctively recoiled at how they felt too hard
the wizard hats of night, the fugitive opera rose
how the hell am i to write a song about those?
i put them to the side to concentrate on work
there were policies and staff reviews and all that hurt
and when the time was up i shared the truth with crumpet
how these uninspiring titles bought my dreams undone
another faux pas, another faux pas, another faux pas, and another faux pas
another faux pas, another faux pas - I accidentally bad mouthed by good friend's art.

Re: Circle of Titles VIII
Long Term Strategy
by Micah Sommersmith
title by fluffy
* These lyrics are heavily inspired by the book of Ecclesiastes (from the Hebrew Tanakh / Christian Old Testament), which is highly recommended reading if you are mired in existential despair and are looking for some ancient wisdom to validate your emotions rather than offering platitudes.
Once I was a foolish soul
But now I see at last
The wisdom written long ago
By the Ecclesiast
There is pleasure, there is pain
But meaning, there is none
Philosophs have racked their brains
For answers that don't come
Rain collects in heavy clouds
And then the rain comes down
Trees fall to the north or south
Then trees lie on the ground
Streams flow to the ocean, then
Run back where they’d begun
What has been will be again
What’s done will be redone
For there is nothing new under the sun
The race is not to the swift
Nor the battle to the strong
Time and chance ensnare us all
The wicked win, the righteous fall
The only way to hold onto your sanity
Is accepting every human work is vanity
And abandoning your precious long term strategy
Living souls, oppressed and grieved,
Are envious of the dead
But those who never were conceived
Have got it better yet
You can build your great estates
Amassing wealth untold
But you can’t pay the toll of fate
With silver or with gold
For rich or poor, the grave is just as cold
The race is not to the swift
Nor the battle to the strong
Time and chance ensnare us all
The wicked win, the righteous fall
The only way to hold onto your sanity
Is accepting every human work is vanity
And abandoning your precious long term strategy
What are we then to do?
How are we then to live?
Love the Lord and keep his commandments,
Eat and drink and enjoy his gifts.

You Can't Go Forward From Where You Are Right Now
By Vom Vorton
Title provided by Johnny Cashpoint
you’ve got your eyes glued to the screen
propped up by the biggest coffee you’ve ever seen
and you won’t rest until you sort this out
your keyboard is a blur
a whirlwind where your hands once were
but each step just adds weight to your doubt
and you’d like to make a difference
but you can’t work out how
because you can’t go forward
from where you are right now
you’ve made page after page of plans
but you still end up back where you began
no matter which avenues you’ve explored
you’ve got notes on your walls
connecting string, unraveled balls
each morning, you go back to the drawing board
and you’d like to make a difference
but you can’t work out how
because you can’t go forward
from where you are right now

The world can be a big beautiful place

Gamble for the Old Times
by Mister Johnny Cashpoint
Title provided by Irwin
Let's gambol through those good old times
Down my memories like fine wines
Back in the endless summertime
Of my youth, but not my prime
Looking back's a pantomime
Things I've done might blow my mind
Some memories shouldn't be awakened
Past's a risk that's not worth taking
Let's gamble on those good old times
Play some memory roulette
The Problem is you never know
Which memory you will select?
Looking back's a pantomime
Things I've done might blow my mind
Some memories shouldn't be awakened
Past's a risk that's not worth taking
Keep the mind palace in tight lockdown
To avoid you getting knocked down
By memories where you were well shifty
It's always a gamble, at best 50 50

Tracing Circles
by Niveous
Title by gizo
It never gets easier
(I) keep making the same mistakes
Why won't I ever learn
Love doesn't work that way
It never gets better
The stinging in your heart
Like threadbare tapestries
I just fall apart
I'm tracing circles down the drain
I'm gonna hurt myself again
I'm tracing circles down the drain
I'm gonna hurt myself again
It's the same old story
Just all the names are changed
Another shattered dream
The heartbreak and the shame
It's gonna leave a scar
Another dead romance
Then I lie to myself
Say my heart needs a second chance
I'm tracing circles down the drain
I'm gonna hurt myself again

Under Your Breath - Hot Pink Halo
(Title provided by Vom Vorton)
***
I'm a melody
I'm the song that you sing
Under your breath
And inside your bones
I'm you and you are me
I'm a harmony
I'm the notes that you play
Under your skin
And inside your heart
I can change what you will be
And we dance
And we move and we rise and we fall
And if no one hears us
Were we ever here at all?
And we dance
And we move and we rise and we fall
And if no one hears us
Were we ever here at all?
I move rhythmically
I'm the beat that lives under your chest
I reverberate from your
Head down to your feet
I'm a lyric line
I'm the rhyme that plays
Under your pen
And inside your mind
I'm what everybody sees
And we dance
And we move and we rise and we fall
And if no one hears us
Were we ever here at all?
And we dance
And we move and we rise and we fall
And if no one hears us
Were we ever here at all?
Keep the music going
Don't skip a beat
Write it, compose it, sing it
Then mix it together into
One cohesive piece
It's just that easy
I'm a melody
I'm the song you sing
Under your breath
And inside your bones
I'm you and you are me
(Title provided by Vom Vorton)
***
I'm a melody
I'm the song that you sing
Under your breath
And inside your bones
I'm you and you are me
I'm a harmony
I'm the notes that you play
Under your skin
And inside your heart
I can change what you will be
And we dance
And we move and we rise and we fall
And if no one hears us
Were we ever here at all?
And we dance
And we move and we rise and we fall
And if no one hears us
Were we ever here at all?
I move rhythmically
I'm the beat that lives under your chest
I reverberate from your
Head down to your feet
I'm a lyric line
I'm the rhyme that plays
Under your pen
And inside your mind
I'm what everybody sees
And we dance
And we move and we rise and we fall
And if no one hears us
Were we ever here at all?
And we dance
And we move and we rise and we fall
And if no one hears us
Were we ever here at all?
Keep the music going
Don't skip a beat
Write it, compose it, sing it
Then mix it together into
One cohesive piece
It's just that easy
I'm a melody
I'm the song you sing
Under your breath
And inside your bones
I'm you and you are me
Devil’s got me Lindt! Devil’s got me Lindt!
