A Long Plastic Hallway
A Long Plastic Hallway
by Lichen Throat
Plastic blocks on the tile floor
Are a barefoot hazard I can’t ignore.
This was supposed to be a fire station
But instead, he’s building a new creation.
He ignores the colors and ignores the sizes,
Keeps going straight with no surprises.
Parallel walls three inches apart,
Far across the room from where it starts.
Lego bricks in two lines,
Not a complex design.
Just a long plastic hallway.
That’s all he’s done all day.
Barbie’s estate and Batman’s cave.
Fortnite sets, and Bambi’s mom’s grave.
Weren’t these meant as building blocks,
And not as jigsaw puzzles?
But there’s Mos Eisley’s spaceport dock,
With blaster rifle muzzles.
What’s next: Rick’s Casablanca bar
And Mrs. Robinson’s boudoir?
All that he builds is a long, long, long, long,
Long, long, long, long plastic hallway.
Is he like Linden Avery’s son,
Building structures since his adoption?
Will he stay silent as a stone
Till he builds a gate out of monster bones
To free himself from invisible walls
And words pour out in a waterfall?
I know you don’t know what I mean,
Because nobody’s read that book but me.
Lego bricks in two lines,
Not a complex design.
Just a long plastic hallway.
That’s all he’s done all day.

Sockpuppet - A Long Plastic Hallway
it’s inimical
inimitable
and so predictable
not a miracle
it’s despicable
deliverable
get irritable, with a thread to pull,
feeling minimal
a seeming emptiness
encroaching loneliness
result of pettiness, try to redress
the phoniness
acrimonious
sanctimonious
a former holiness, the brokenness
melodious
finding time to spare
sit in the broken chair
being unaware, without a care
all thoughts laid bare
a tantric suicide
already dead inside
climb up the hillside, across the divide,
smell insecticide
there’s a new tomorrow, it’s falling into place
there’s a new tomorrow, it’s running out of space
there’s a new tomorrow, it’s all fucked up
get your new tomorrow, you’re out of luck
get a steady job, and another piece of me
get a big tv, and another take
get a new degree, stuck in the machinery
in the new tomorrow, you get what you make
it’s inimical
counterfactual
and so predictable
not a miracle
it’s despicable
deliverable
get irritable, with a thread to pull,
feeling minimal
and you simply cannot see what this all has done to me
simply cannot see through the crooked lies
simply cannot see everything that’s eating me
nobody is looking through each others’ eyes
simply cannot see what this all has meant to me
simply cannot see through the skin disguise
simply cannot see all the greater piece of me
walking through the hallway something on the rise
feeling critical
and irritable
analytical
parasitical
apocalyptical
stereotypical
it’s predictable, hypocritical,
and a miracle

red light
nowhere to go
holding out for some miracle
wait a minute...
the moment is cold
please don't denigrate the wisdom you seek
all the venerated notions are weak
regenerate the original mystique
or dance the old dance of oblique
green light
i've been here before
a distant hallway behind every door
no more waiting...
the linear path shall endure
what do you seek from the venerated motionless gates that you keep?
illuminate the unoriginal conceit
or bask in the grasp of the plasticine masque of oblique

One of the things you learn
No one pays attention
One of the things you learn
You won't be mentioned
You've got your family maybe a friend or two
No one else cares all that much they’ll never notice you
It's a long plastic hallway
You'll never fit in
It's a long plastic hallway
The end’s where you begin
Sweet voices singing sweetly
Don't always tell the truth
Sweet voices singing sweetly
Aren't singing to you
The lesson that you learned wasn't the one they taught
Your eyes are open but your wallet's what they want
It's a long plastic hallway
You'll never fit in

A LONG PLASTIC HALLWAY
by Wuxtry
Wait up for me, hold open the door
Walking blindly, who is all this for
Hoping someday to find my whole purpose
Finding hope in the light in the darkness
Plastic hallway, the long passageway
Going somewhere moving nowhere
Found something don't know what it is
Forward thinking, backward moving
Maybe someday I’ll find it amusing
Plastic hallway, the long passageway
It’s a small way through the dark days
The long passageway
Moving slowly got nowhere to be
You’re lost back there, come catch up to me
Forward thinking, backward moving
Maybe someday I’ll find it amusing
Plastic hallway, the long passageway
It’s a small way through the dark days

I see a light ahead
Does this mean that I'm dead?
O! I thought I'd end up somewhere more profound
Than this grey corridor
I'd hoped for something more, but no
At least we don't all end up in the ground
I touch the walls
I feel it all gaining speed as I begin to fall
And though the light will grow in time
I'll never reach it if I try
Now I know where we go when we're done with our time on earth
When we reach our obsolescence
Now I know where we go when we're done with our time on earth
I hate to be the one to tell you but
Heaven's a long plastic hallway
Heaven's a long plastic hallway

I love you so much I’ll be whatever you need
I’ll be whatever you want instead of just me
I’ll sell my condo get that big house in the suburbs
Get a second house overseas for the summer
I’ll drop all my friends because they’re out of our league
I know I’m better now and you would never leave
I know I better be supportive of your every need
I’m just a mutt you’re a pure bred pedigree
I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure you’re happy
I’ll drive a nicer car my old one was crappy
I’ll gladly take you to your personal trainer
He looks in my eyes like bro I have banged her
I smile and nod because I know that you love me
This is all worth it one day I’ll be your husband
And my cousins think I’m making a mistake
I’ll cut them out of our life they are snakes
Like a woodpecker peck peck pecking at a plastic tree
I’ll be anything you want me to be
I’ll make the transformation you will see
In a long plastic hallway just you and me
Like a woodpecker peck peck pecking at a plastic tree
I’ll be anything you want me to be
I reek of desperation you will see
In a long plastic hallway just you and me
You look like the real thing you taste like the real thing
We are in love and I know you can feel me
You can heal me I know that you’re love is real
No prenuptial agreement that is our deal
We’re in it for the long haul you know I will stand tall
I will never stumble you know that I can’t fall
I could be who you wanted always at your beck and call
I’m not just a brick I am your whole wall
When your lips get chapped I’ll put on the petroleum
When the bed’s not big enough I’ll sleep on linoleum
And you’re cold again you taste like lipstick
No matter how hard I try you’re always distant
And I carry doubt and it freaks me out
And I’m barely proud and it scares me now
And it wears me out and it wears me out
And it wears me out and it wears me out
Like a woodpecker peck peck pecking at a plastic tree
I’ll be anything you want me to be

Listen to my bare ass slide on a laminated landscape
Naked as a naked baby, sipping on a carbomb
The webcams send my chaps all over the internets
And you can give me change
But it ain't the same
Here's a greasy dripping chunk of meat wrapped in cardboard
Here's two hundred different colors in carpet samples
There's a fifty fifty chance these pants will fit you right
And you can click my name
But it ain't the same
Everyone I see is just a screen
Everyone I touch is just a thought
This world - Plastic
The whole world - Plastic
Give me all your fleshiest things of every magination
Give me all your hottest takes from inside your pick up truck
Give me videos of people watching videos of people playing video games
And they can crash those trains
But it ain't the same
Everyone I see is just a screen
Everyone I touch is just a thought
The entire world
All the boys and girls
My house and car
Movie Stars
My shirt and pants
Our dinner plans
My political stances
This stuff on my hands
Voices that are Anti-Anti-Brutality are bullshit, fuck'em

Re: A Long Plastic Hallway
do you remember
the way I made you think
the way I made you stop
lost change in the wishing well
write it off as loss
I can't even talk
a long plastic hallway
with memories on the walls
turning slick smoke make me sick
gonna lose it all
asleep in a fireball
so rest up
you cannot be touched
you cannot see what
you don't want
I confess the
sickness in my guts
Has left me ghostlike
And hollow
I'm tearing at my clothes
I'm swearing up and down
the caring never stopped
though I'm staring at the ground
the distance that I feel
insistence that’s it’s not real
It’s all perception
but I swear it’s all I’ve got
And I swear I’m moving
As fast as I can
Grasping for a thread
That isn’t circling the dead
As far as I know dead is what I’m not
A long plastic hallway
Repeat again and again
An Ouroborous ocean
Of well meaning friends
But I’ll keep replaying
I’ll keep replaying
So long as I dodge the end
the distance that I feel
insistence that’s it’s not real
It’s all perception
but I swear it’s all I’ve got
And I swear I’m moving
As fast as I can
Grasping for a thread
That isn’t circling the dead
As far as I know dead is what I’m not
I lose time
Like a key that’s just misplaced
Scenes left on the cutting room
My means of knowing my place
In my mind
It’s all happening for the first time
And I’m afraid to hear a story
Of a stranger with my face
so rest up
you cannot be touched
you cannot see what
you don't want
I confess the
sickness in my guts
Has left me ghostlike
And hollow
I'm tearing at my clothes

As far as I know dead is what I’m not
A long plastic hallway
Repeat again and again
An Ouroborous ocean
Of well meaning friends
But I’ll keep replaying
I’ll keep replaying
So long as I dodge the end
the distance that I feel
insistence that’s it’s not real
It’s all perception
but I swear it’s all I’ve got
And I swear I’m moving
As fast as I can
Grasping for a thread
That isn’t circling the dead
As far as I know dead is what I’m not
I lose time
Like a key that’s just misplaced
Scenes left on the cutting room
My means of knowing my place
In my mind
It’s all happening for the first time
And I’m afraid to hear a story
Of a stranger with my face
so rest up
you cannot be touched
you cannot see what
you don't want
I confess the
sickness in my guts
Has left me ghostlike
And hollow
I'm tearing at my clothes
I'm swearing up and down
the caring never stopped
though I'm staring at the ground
the distance that I feel
insistence that’s it’s not real
It’s all perception
but I swear it’s all I’ve got
And I swear I’m moving
As fast as I can
Grasping for a thread
That isn’t circling the dead
As far as I know dead is what I’m not

Re: A Long Plastic Hallway
A Long Plastic Hallway - Spare Parts
Howling winds are swirling
On this desolate rock
And I'm stuck in a bubble
Halfway up Olympus Mons
I am all alone
In a long plastic hallway,
It's three hundred meters
From the barracks to the lab
I haven’t said a single word
In two days or more
Not with two friends lying
Dead upon the slab
It’s lonely here, and the sun is dim
The situation is looking grim
I can’t go home; I’m here to stay
A hundred million miles away
Rodriguez died
From a rip in his suit
At least that's what I said
To the marshals back home
Lundquist had a pressure leak
and lost her oxygen
There was nothing I could do
I needed body parts for spare
But I am safe and warm
In a long plastic hallway
With all these lovely organs
I can last a millions years
It’s lonely here, and the sun is dim
The situation is looking grim
But I am happy since I took a stance
My friends have given me a fighting chance
I can’t go home; I’m here to stay
A hundred million miles away
Howling winds are swirling
On this desolate rock
And I'm stuck in a bubble
Halfway up Olympus Mons
I am all alone
In a long plastic hallway,
