SUITCASE. I wrote lyrics for a 57-second long punk ditty, but won't have the time to do anything with them:

Carry it on the subway
Take it on the train
On a crowded city bus
At 5:16 they'll all feel your pain

Plans checked with plans
And watches calibrated
Now we'll say goodbye
To the world you always hated

Where...were...you...
when the suitcase went off?

Seemed like an interesting start, but didn't go anywhere with it...

V1: Anna sees a thousand sparkling diamonds
on sunny summer days
near the rocky shores of a green-blue lake
dancing across the waves

She sees a battle ship from Venus
idling in the sky
Such a towering mass of gray and white
that she wonders how it flies

Chorus: Oh Anna seems to see
Everything so differently
Through bright green eyes the spinning world
is a lovely mystery
So I wonder when I pass her every day
Just what Anna sees
when she's looking at
a lonely guy like me

I don't like the way my song turned out, so here are some free lyrics.

Fearless Love

I’ve got a fearless love
It’s like taking drugs and driving
Across the country

And when I drive my car
Into the ocean that I choose
I laugh and cry because it’s funny

And if my fearless love
Can face the depths of you
Well then I’ll know it’s true

Fearless love
Fearless love
Let us love without fear

My love is furthermore
I hope it’s not a bore
I hope my love is like an ass that just won’t quit

It’s an ass and furthermore
It can be quite a bore
But hopefully not enough for you to quit

And if love has haunted you
You know the echo as well as I do

Fearless love
Fearless love
Let us love without fear
Let us harvest the tears
Of those conquered by our love

I’ve got a fearless love
I did not earn it in a war
I did not earn it by working hard

I’ve got a fearless love
I did not earn it through persecution
Or by being persecuted

I’ve got a fearless love
I don’t know where it comes from
But I’m thankful that you’re here

Fearless love
Fearless love
Let us love without fear
Let us harvest the tears
Of those moved by our love
Of those who cannot be loved
Of those who do not love enough
Of those whose souls are filled with rot
Of the perfect lives that we’ve lost
Because we’ve walked another walk
Because walking is too much
When our feet are trying not to touch the ground

Turn Off Your Tv

Iowa born, you live in New York
A serial monogamist but no one to cry for
Williamsburg style, it's your Midwestern smile
Melts all the hearts as they walk through the turnstile

Tell you what I wanna see,
Turn on that tv
Watch highlight reels about me

Bedford went bust, suitcase full of rust
Got out of dodge on a cheap Peter Pan bus
Call me naïve, I wanted to believe
You spotted gold in a pyrite like me

Tell you what I wanna see,
Turn off your tv
Spend a little time with me

How I want to be the star
I want to be the star
Of your Hollywood boulevard
Though you can't quite pay the rent
And my friends think you're too arrogant
To deal with my narcissistic bent

Tell you what I wanna see
Turn off your tv
Spend a little time with me

Good Faith

Wait in a long, long, long, long line
Wait in a long, long, very long line
Watching the whole world unwind
As you wait in a long, long, very long line

What say you?
24 years in a great big queue
You don't understand, so you think that it's true
You take it on good faith that you'll get your due

So you wait in a long, long, long, long line
Wait in a long, long, very long line
Fear you might get left behind
So you wait in a long, long, very long line

[bridge]
How much time do you own?
Did you think it through?
Another minute 30 gone
Was it good for you?

What say you?
24 years in a great big queue
You don't understand, so you think that it's true
You take it on good faith that you'll get your due
You just take it on good faith
You take it on good faith
And wait in a long, long, long, long line

RACE TO THE BOTTOM / King Arthur

Feel free to cut / rearrange / reword / whatever. List yourself as co-writer of the lyrics if you feel you deserve it. I do ask, if you do music to this, to send me a recording of what you did, even if you don't submit it to the fight

Me and the Mrs. goin' out tonight / To the casino on the rez.
We gonna belly up to the big buffet / just like the big chief says.
Then we'll buy a couple buckets of quarters / see whose luck's the worst
Pick out a couple of slot machines / and see who goes broke first.

chorus: It's a race to the bottom / it's a race to the bottom all right
It's a race to the bottom / smoke 'em if you got 'em
It's a race to the bottom tonight.

I got my lucky red Donald baseball cap / she's got a Hillary shirt
But we don't fight about politics / it ain't worth getting hurt.
Whoever wins, things won't be / any different than the past
We'll just go on living like millionaires / as long as the money lasts.

(chorus)

bridge: We ride around in a hundred thousand dollar bus
Ev'ry night we share a bottle of upscale beer
We live in a trailer on the other side of the tracks
But you know - that trailer's paid off free and clear.

We're living la vida loca / stayin' out 'til nine or ten
And when the Social Security checks arrive / we'll come back and do it again!

(chorus)

Help yourself to these. I'm just playing along from home. :)

Race to the Bottom

Fell from "Head of the Class",
In a race to the bottom of a glass.
Has it really been twenty years gone past?
You tell everyone you're fine,
Nothing weighs down on your mind.
Tempered by a box of wine.

Hey, we don't belong here anyway
You say:
My my my,
Should I be called up to the sky
I will be fine.

Just a dreamer in a world,
Of cantankerous young boys and girls.
Steal it away. Clutch your pearls.
They beat ploughshares into swords,
Not knowing what they're slouching towards,
While you're passed out flat on the boards.

Hey, we don't belong here anyway
You say:
My my my,
Should I be called up to the sky
I will be fine.

INDIGO WAVE

We watched the tide leave
Without even a wave
Without even saying good-bye
Leaving fish on the sand
They were flopping like hands
They didn't know how to cry

The children ran out and
They scattered about
Gathering fish in their vests
A stillness came on
And a silence began
As we waited for what would come next

Then far out to sea
Where the world seems to end
Shone a light like the ege of a blade
And beneath it a line of incredible blue
A magnificent indigo wave

All this week I've been a conference on sediment and hydrology. I got a little bored in one of the sessions on stream restoration, which resulted in the lyrics below for "Tumbleweed." This subject is obviously a bit esoteric, but feel free to use them, in whole or in part, as you see fit.

Tumbleweed

Rio Grande in late July:
Spring runoff is done, and the bed is dry.
No relief from these summer clouds--
There's distant thunder, but it isn't loud.
I designed this restoration site,
But it's now dry sand, gleaming white.
Motorbike tracks on the riverbed
Make it look like this river's dead.
Eighty pounds of native seed,
Now there's just one tumbleweed.

Dozers pushed and excavators dug
Riffles and pools that the fish would love.
But they need water, not dry land,
So their tiny bones lie atop the sand.
Must have bored a thousand holes
For cottonwood and willow poles.
Now they're only brittle stems,
Waiting for water to flow again.
Eighty pounds of native seed,
Now there's just one tumbleweed.

Water gone to farms and towns
Turns uplands green and rivers brown.
Let the river have its share;
Surely there are drops to spare.
This riparian corridor
Could be home to so much more.
How long until the monsoons come
And make this barren river run?
Eighty pounds of native seed,
Now there's just one tumbleweed.

KISSING CONTEST

When am I contagious?
I really need to know
'Cause I'm in love with Martha
And tomorrow is the show
Last night I kissed Brenda
And today she is not well
And I might have caught her virus
At the old kissing well.

Tomorrow is the contest
Martha will be there
And I really want to kiss her
But I also really care
And I wouldn't want to hurt her
Or make her be unwell
And tomorrow is the contest
At the old kissing well

[chorus]
Kissing Contest Announced
Come One and All
You Can Kiss Martha
Or You Can Kiss Paul
Who's the Best Kisser?
Our Kissers Will Tell
At the Lippe County Fair
By the Old Kissing Well

When am I contagious?
I really need to know
'Cause I'm in love with Martha
And tomorrow is the show

(just found these lyrics hanging around, never wrote the song)

The Password Is

I've got to find the password to your heart

Started an investigation, tied me up in costs
Appealed to the admin, but she told me to get lost
Tapped into messages that could have been Chinese
Hacked at the encryptions, looking for the keys

Tried to buy a list on a list called alt
Tried a bunch of hashes but they all needed salt
Tried infiltration but I wasn't a good fake
Tried brute force, that was a big mistake

Maybe it's a city
Maybe it's a pet
Maybe it's a birthday
I haven't found it yet
Every few tries I get locked out
And I have to stay quiet 'til the thing times out

Worked through the dictionary, couldn't find it there
Changed some letters into digits, it didn't seem to care
Rummaged through "My Documents," didn't find a clue
The only thing I haven't tried is talking to you

I've got to find the password to your heart

Maybe it's a city
Maybe it's a pet
Maybe it's a birthday
I haven't found it yet
Every few tries I get locked out
And I have to stay quiet 'til the thing times out

"Buhhhh" (I plan on recording this but anyone's free to use them)

Feeling so tired today
Feeling uninspired today
Don't know what notes to play
Don't know what words to say.

Buhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

My coffee's wearing off
Head hurts, gotta cough
I'm just phonin' in it
So here I go again

Buhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I'm bored
Fry my vocal chords
Gravel in my throat
That's all I wrote

The beginnings of something for Abuse of Power, in case anyone can use it:

He's an industrial shredder
With a million-watt head
He's got a Marshall tower
That inspires dread
if I turn my guitar up
He's gonna turn up too
It's an abuse of power
But what can you do

for "Lightning Rod"

music should be "country to the point of parody", like "Dead Flowers" by the Stones

When I'm broke down on the road
tryin' to pull a heavy load
I can't say I did not expect this
That's why I don't act surprised
when that look that's in your eyes
tells me this will be our goodbye kiss

[chorus]
cause I draw the wrath of God
like a damned ol' Lightnin' Rod
of misery and pain I've had my share
yes I draw the wrath of God
like a damned ol' Lightnin' Rod
trouble seems to find me everywhere

Now I can't say I'm clean
in fact I'm kind of mean
you might even say that I'm to blame
but while others seem to scrape
and get by and escape
for me the story always ends the same

[repeat chorus]

now I guess it could be worse
every time I see a hearse
knowin' that I ain't the one inside
and I don't mind the rain
I'm too numb to feel the pain
but still I ain't go nowhere I can hide

[repeat chorus]

for "Letter to the Editor"

Not gonna have time to deal with this, and it's not entirely ready for prime time, but if anybody can use it:

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
King Arthur

Sometimes things go right
Sometimes things go wrong
Sometimes there's not much to do
But to keep on keepin' on.

Lately I've been feeling
Like maybe the fault is mine
I wish somebody could give me a clue
I wish somebody would give me a sign
(or: drop me a line)

(chorus)
Somebody write me a letter to the editor
Maybe an email so I get it today
I promise I'll read your letter to the editor,
Say anything you wanna say

Been tryin' to be the same ol' good guy
I've always told myself I am
It doesn't seem to be working
It isn't working worth a damn.

It isn't working with the ladies
It isn't working with the guys
It isn't working with the univers
Somebody give me some advice

(chorus)

(bridge?)

My old ways
Have worn out their welcome
These days
???

How KA likes to work: you are welcome to make any changes you want
to specific lines, order of lines, order of sections, add new
sections, etc., but in the credits it still gets listed as lyrics
by KA. Do whatever you want musically. Even if you don't submit
it to the fight, if you end up with any sort of rough demo, even,
provide me with a copy for my own archives.

I've been playing with OpenAI, and I think someone could do something good with these lyrics for "Cast A Shadow"

It's so cold in the shade
I can see my breath
I'm trying not to shiver
I'm trying not to shake

The sun is setting fast
And the darkness is creeping in
I can feel it on my skin
I can feel it in my bones

I'm trying to find some shelter
I'm trying to find some light
But it's so hard to find
When you're cast in the shadow

I can hear the wind howling
I can hear the trees creaking
I can hear my heart beating
I can hear the fear in my head

I'm trying to stay calm
I'm trying to stay strong
But I can't keep hiding
I can't keep running

eventually I have to face the dark
eventually I have to face the cold
But I'm not ready yet
I'm not ready to let go

some more shitty GPT-3 lyrics, this time for Friday Fish Fry:

It's Friday night and I'm feeling fine
I'm gonna go out and have a time
I'm gonna meet my friends at the usual spot
We'll be laughing and joking and drinking a lot

We'll be dancing all night to the music we love
We'll be singing and laughing and feeling just fine

It's a Friday night fish fry
And we're gonna have a good time
We'll be eating and drinking and being merry

So come on down to the Friday night fish fry
We'll be waiting for you with a smile

It's gonna be a night to remember
So bring your appetite and your sense of fun

We'll be laughing and joking and having a blast

So come on down to the Friday night fish fry

And let's have a good time!

two takes on "Strong Coffee", which may be two different songs or one song depending how you want to do it.

verses:

(in my mind it's like the vocals from "He's a Woman, She's a Man" by the Scorpions over the guitar from "Cross Wires" by XTC)

Can't see straight, can't think right,
working that shift, wanna call it a night
but no!
another job I gotta go!
I need Strong Coffee, Strong Coffee!

Can't see the road, eyes don't work,
sleep takin hold, mind fulla dirt,
I don't care!
one more mile until I'm there!
I got Strong Coffee, Strong Coffee

sunrise flashin, energy crashin,
need stimulation of a chemical fashion
do you know what I mean?
Something stronger than caffeine!
With my Strong Coffee, Strong Coffee!

bridge:

(music like the "Scaramouche" part of Bohemian Rhapsody)

Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee,
Hot and strong and black!
Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee,
Gives me everything I lack!
Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee,
Hot and strong and black!
Did you know "Atari" meant "prepare to be attacked?"

(solo as Zappa-esque as you can manage)

(back to the verse music)

Eyebrows twichin, balls are itchin,
Bladder explodin, soon I'll be shittin'
my pants!
but this chick still wants to dance!
I got Strong Coffee, Strong Coffee!

Been a minute...

Ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh (percolator)

Black as night, bold as Hell
Strong coffee is all I smell

As the depths of addition ensures
A Dark roast, death metal Breeeeeeewwwwwww

Dark roast! Bitter blend
Fuel the night 'til the very end

Caffiene rush! Headbang high!
In the mosh pit I never die

Black tar, strong as hell
Black coffee is all I smell

As the depths of addition ensures
A Dark roast, death metal Breeeeeeewwwwwww

In the pit! high on Caffeine
My mug reigns supreme

No sleep! No end in sight
This coffee consumes the night

Let flow, let it fuel my rage
In the pit, I'll never age

Death metal, coffee, and the night
Together, we always ignite

With mug in hand I scream and shout
Another pot's what I'm about

Death Metal brew is all my life
A brew that cuts through pain and strife

Brewed with Fire! The High Lord's elixir
Filtered through my darkened liver

Raven blood, cryptic juice!
The dogs of hell let loose

Bitter, bold! My source of power!
A dark brew in every metal hour

With every sip my adrenalin spikes
In the pit, my java soul ignites!
