And Counting
And Counting
And Counting - MC Eric B
===========================
MC Eric B is my name
and Songfight is my bitch
gonna bury all the other singers
in a 6 foot ditch
Most of the tunes are stale
with lyrics I can't even hear
after playing their songs
I wanna cut off my ear
Give me something that's fresh
to stimulate my mind
take me away on a vacation
from the daily grind
It's lucky for you
that I arrived on the scene
wiping away all the old formulas
and starting again clean
Some call me prolific
I drop at least one hit a week
sometimes I even write a song
while I'm taking a leak
Crazy and outta control
like a guest on Jerry Springer
I'm redefining what it takes
to be a Songfight singer
Chorus
===========================
Hail to Songfight
a battle of the best
there can be only one winner
in the ultimate test
As all the gold records
on my wall keep on mounting
I rule this Songfight
number 500 and counting
===========================
I'm a renaissance man
a jack of all trades
I watch PBS and C-Span
but still kick ass at arcades
Like a spiritual leader
my words are deeply poetic
I draw you into my world
with a lyrical force magnetic
While others mumble their lines
strumming their boring old guitars
You'll only hear tracks that rock
from this Internet star
I'll make ya dance to my hip-hop
or make you cry with a ballad
I fill the forums with reviews
with points insightful and valid
Somebody call the police
there's a murder going down
I'm slaying all the competition
in Songfight town
Chorus
===========================
Hail to Songfight
a battle of the best
there can be only one winner
in the ultimate test
As all the gold records
on my wall keep on mounting
I rule this Songfight
number 500 and counting
Long live Songfight, baby!

MC Eric B: If you do your tune, you will likely be chastised for writing a song about SongFight (I did the time I wrote a SF song about SF).
In other news, here are some free lyrics for whatever they are worth. The tune is not working for me, but maybe it work for you?
And Counting
CHORUS
living life and counting
growing young and growing old
so many things to behold
when your living life and counting
VERSE 1
two years old, and counting
he's such a little, little man
so much for him to understand
and a few things for me to comprehend
five years old, he's off to school
teachers teach him the golden rules
and he is up to the challenge
five years old and counting
VERSE 2
twelve years old, he's got his reasons
however flighty they may seem
such a tough age to be alive
his opinions so hard for me to see
learn to see past face value
to see how the teen really sees
if I do things half way right
maybe one day he will reflect me
VERSE 3
sixteen, scary how he takes to drivin'
I donate a little to his freedom
oh baby, it's gunna alright
its not like our little bird is flyin away tonight
but wait, we just turned around
he's graduated and moved to his own town
he's found his own to call baby
and we'll only see him rarely
CHORUS

Wages - I agree, I will probably get some negative comments for mentioning Songfight in my Lyrics, but since this is the special "500th title" fight, I though talking about Songfight was appropriate. Plus, I usually get negative comments for my songs anyhow, so a few more piled on won't bother me.

Generally, I agree with what you say, but my problem is that I have a melody for it stuck in my head..and it is very difficult to change it. If I can figure out a way, then I'll enter it, but PLEASE anyone who does want to use these lyrics, please do! I'm also open to someone else writing a melody and I can sing it or not. Whatever, really!MC Eric B wrote:Wages - You have 9 more days to finish that song so it seems like a waste for you not to do it yourself. I like the lyrics. Reminds me a little of "100 Years" by Five For Fighting.
- Eric
But I really should focus on my Purple Reign songs (around 9 right now, and I think I'm going to appear on someone's "For You", so I'll count that as 10, but I still need to write one more!).......

This is a very funny line, but I think you should probably not submit a song about people who suck when you suck yourself.MC Eric B wrote:I fill the forums with reviews

lyrics
That is just the nature of hip-hop songs, to boast about yourself. Hip-hop/rap is different than most other types of music in that way. Ironically, I ended up not using a hip-hop beat like I had originally planned when I wrote the lyrics, instead I made a traditional rock song, so the the lyrics don't match the style of music as well. But, hopefully that makes it more interesting.

Um, okay, I came up with completely different music that I *think* will work, so I retract my lyrics from public access (But I leave them visible anyways!).Wages wrote:Generally, I agree with what you say, but my problem is that I have a melody for it stuck in my head..and it is very difficult to change it. Naw man, the nature of nerdcore is to be as white as possible.Denyer wrote: But I thought you are a nerdcore rapper and the nature of nerdcore is to boast about being bad at it.
Here's the current version of my lyrics. I might redo the song entirely though:
Tell me about this hypocracy I see
All of this pain and suffering around me
Never seems to cut it for the big governments
They just want to push and shove and extend their influence
Well forget that, that just isn't right
It's time for the little people to unite
Don't run away from the Marxist word
Embrace it and you can be as free as a bird
No longer have the shackles that bind and kill
Instead you can live for yourself and the thrill
Of no money no properperty but a life that's fair
A life that's good and a meaning of care
Wouldn't it be nice to throw off the chains
Wouldn't it be nice to utilize our brains
At every single rally our hearts are pounding
Our support is growing one-by-one and counting
Hopefully someday soon we can take the world by storm
Hopefully someday soon we can open the door
Why don't we just revolt
Why don't we start a revolution
Why don't we stand and fight
Why don't we do what's right
I was looking for a solution
For and end to noise polution
Yesterday she came around and said "let's start a revolution"
I said "I don't want to go, I'd rather hang around at home"
Let's go!
Why don't we just revolt
Why don't we start a revolution
Why don't we stand and fight
Why don't we do what's right
People are dying in the streets every day
Kids go to grafitti filled parks and play
People chow down on tons of fast food
And think that Darfur commercials are crude
People say we should save the environment
While driving their Hummers but recycling a bit
People say Bush is a flaming Fascist
But don't care about other ragimes at the very least
People are screaming that the end is nigh
I look around at the world and don't question why
Sooner or later it'll all come back
Sooner or later the Earth will attack
We're going to get hit and it's going to be strong
And when that happens we won't last very long
Why don't we just revolt
Why don't we start a revolution
Why don't we stand and fight
Why don't we do what's right
At every single rally our hearts are pounding
Our support is growing one-by-one and counting
Hopefully someday soon we can take the world by storm
Hopefully someday soon we can open the door
I was looking for a solution

I said "I don't want to go, I'd rather hang around at home"

Why don't we start a revolution
Why don't we stand and fight
Why don't we do what's right
This lips were trained to tango so don't deny my chance to dance with the stars.
nerdcore
Denyer - Nerdcore is hip-hop music performed by geeky artists, about geeky topics like science, Star Wars, computers, Harry Potter, websites, etc. While some of my songs are nerdcore (due to the lyrics), most of my Songfight entries are just bad hip-hop performed by a dorky white guy.

And Counting
From the top of Carl Rove Freedom Tower
I gaze out at rolling landfill hills
That rise up into the ozone mists
With their cadmium slopes,
And their oily wisps of metallic greens and amethysts.
Two thousand ten, two thousand when
Feel the pressure mounting
Each new year is what I fear
Entropy and counting.
Surf rich with crude and plastic spoon rolls
In a muffled splash
By a bubbling detergent lagoon and a waving field
Of Monsanto genetically engineered succotash.
Entropy and counting.
Entropy and counting.
A Soho boatman rows up
The block
To the cross town canal by the Mott Street Lock
His radio playing Ashcroft rock
and sacred insults from a Born-Again shock jock
On this lazy, hazy December summer.
A suicide Prius broadsides a Hummer.
Two thousand ten, two thousand when
Feel the pressure mounting
Each new year is what I fear
Entropy and counting.
From the top of the great Mc’Walmart Cathedral
Where fundamentalist shoppers are called daily to shop
Blackwater Guardians of Sam exchange fire
With a crazed off duty city cop
“It’s not Beef. It’s not beef”
He cries, as he plunges from the golden arched steeple
“Open your eyes, they’re telling you lies.
Ball Park Franks is People!”
Entropy and counting.

And Counting by TV's Kyle
20-a-million times and counting
20-a-million times and counting
That's how many times that you said no to--
20-a-million times and counting
20-a-million times and counting
That's how many times that you've been cruel to me.
I've given you a lot of chances just to see.
We'd have a swangin' time if you'd say yes to me.
You just said "no" to my a'twenty millionth plea.
But who's counting?
Who's counting?
20-a-million times and counting
20-a-million times and counting
That's how many times that you said no to--
20-a-million times and counting
20-a-million times and counting
That's how many times that you've been cruel to me.
I bought a calculator just to count the times
You said that you would never ever once be mine
It added up to fifty thousand fifty nine!
But who's counting?
Who-all-is-a-counting?
20-a-million times and counting
20-a-million times and counting
That's how many times that you said no to--
20-a-million times and counting
20-a-million times and counting
That's how many times that you've been cruel to me.
Can't abide. It's been 20 million times.
Been a lot of calls to make and I'm runnin' out of dimes.
Gotta be other fish there in the sea.
I ain't gonna count 'em all, but I bet there's more than three.
(verse chords for instrum)
Who's countin'?
Who's got the unmitigated gall to continue countin' at this particular point in time?!

And Counting
By Steve Durand
I got a letter from my girl
The cutest thing in all the world
It said "Please write me back, my sweet.
And name a place where we can meet
Before we're done
We'll have some fun
Reading and writing and counting
And so I took my pen in hand
And wrote a letter back again
I told my baby that I knew
A spot where we could rendezvous
It's my aim
To play this game of
Reading and writing and counting
When we're together at last
It all adds up when you do the math
I must admit it gives me a thrill
To use these basic skills
When we met she told me then
"Just close your eyes and count to ten"
And so I counted through the night
Each number brought a new delight
All in all
I had a ball with
Reading and writing and counting
When we met she told me then
"Just close your eyes and count to ten"
And so I counted through the night
Each number brought a new delight
In the end
I recommend

AND COUNTING / King Arthur
We agreed we'd leave the past in the past
We both believed in the power of a second chance.
And maybe some people can change,
And the changes last.
We watched love in retreat
As our two selfish hearts advanced
And counting these hearts
How many hearts have been broken?
And counting this time
How many times have we walked out some door?
And counting these lies
How many unkind, untrue words have been spoken?
And counting this time
Do times like these even count any more?
We both walked in, and promised to step up
We both made a vow to keep a smile on our face.
But those were facades that in the end
Couldn't be kept up any longer.
Sacred promises made and too easily erased.
(chorus)
We tried so hard,
But failed so often.
Maybe this ought to be
The final nails in our coffins.

And Counting (by The BeWells)
Another day here without you
One more hour since you dropped the other shoe
I'm counting as time goes by
Moonlit shadows creep across the room
Wearied by dreams of the life we knew
I keep counting
Each moment takes me further from you
But the memories might as well be new
Pain cuts deeply as they burn
That's the price when it's too late to learn
It's all I can do, I'm counting
Each step feels like the last I'll take
Constant reminders only bring heartache
I'm walking away from you
Pushing forward until hope breaks through
But nothing ever seems to shake these blues
I keep walking
Each moment takes me further from you
But the memories might as well be new
Pain cuts deeply as they burn
That's the price when it's too late to learn
It's all I can do, I'm walking
And counting till I'm over you
Another day here without you
One more hour since you dropped the other shoe
I'm counting as time goes by
Moonlit shadows creep across the room
Wearied by dreams of the life we knew
I keep counting
Each moment takes me further from you
But the memories might as well be new
Pain cuts deeply as they burn
That's the price when it's too late to learn
