Meeting Street

(with a little help from the Soggy Bottom Boys)

-=VERSE 1=-
I walk alone going everywhere I roam with a, a mic cord, pad and pen, and headphones. I'm calling nowhere home, you could say a rolling stone, walking from coast to coast and flowing poems show to show. My friend is my beat. Without it, I am incomplete. I bring the heat that makes you tap your feet; get out your seat. Everywhere I go is where I was meant to be. Living free with a couple of pennies and my name, walking streets made out of dirt or paved and I'll never go back to the place where I was born and raised.
(The place where he was born and raised.)

-=VERSE 2=-
I am a man of constant sorrow. No tomorrow. Gotta borrow just to swallow. Called a John Doe. Not a honcho. With this crossroads at my feet, I see my fate. I'm facing change. I'm thinking I'm not really free. I'm feeling like I'm on the corner of dude and catastrophe. I lost my beat. I'm feeling doubt. I'm obsolete. I've been tossed out. This meeting street, it has no route. I'm thinking, "What's this all about?" I don't know where I'm going, only know what I can see. I look around and realize I got no friends to help me out.
(He has no friends to help him out.)

-=VERSE 3=-
As I stand here seeking answers, feeling like an empty chamber, I whip out my pen and paper and begin to feel at ease. Even stranger is this anger come to take its hold on me. I match my feelings to my beats and let the song begin to be. Then, I realize I am tied to the music of my life. I can't choose my left or right. I sit back and ride it out. My life is not a meeting street along which I can choose my way. I'm guided by the rails of destiny and pain all day. Maybe I will live forever. Maybe I am just insane. Know that I will not surrender 'till I die upon this train.
(Perhaps he'll die upon this train.)

Meeting Street
by Chumpy and the Bitfields

the payday loans and mobile homes
shine for me on meeting street
massage parlors and bargain barbers
smile down on meeting street

meeting street
cheating defeat
meeting street
so happy and numb on meeting street
it’s where i come from on meeting street

chinese eats and dirty sheets
wait for me on meeting street
pawn brokers and the wild jokers
dream with me on meeting street

meeting street
cheating defeat
meeting street
so happy and numb on meeting street
it’s where i come from on meeting street

main street won’t touch me
meeting street won't judge me
i’m right here, right where i belong

drunks and flunkies pimps and junkies
dance for me on meeting street
the shiftless lazies and wide eyed crazies
sing with me on meeting street

meeting street
cheating defeat
meeting street
so happy and numb on meeting street
it’s where i come from on meeting street

I didn't get a chance to record and submit my entry but the lyrics were:

There's a secret place inside my mind
At the corner of dead end street and dreamer's lane
Close your eyes, bow your head
Take a step into the air...
And I'll take you by the hand

There's a helpful bunch of good folks there
Doctors and lawyers, keen to know your name!
Shake their hands, engage in some small talk
Or some big talk if you like...
You'll land on both your feet on meeting street

When I'm on my own inside my room
My self-made cell of solitude
Atoning for years of nothing much
My expression turns from deep despair to lighter than air
When the whirr of my computer is drowned out by all the sounds on meeting street

Meeting Street
by Berkeley Social Scene

This is where we go
a long drive down a desolate road
the sunset reflected in chrome
freedom under our wheels

Meeting street
reinforced concrete
We’re in the white heat
summer time jump seat

I’ll see you there
wind blowing through your hair
arms around my torso
riding into the sunset

Meeting street
reinforced concrete
We’re in the white heat
summer time jump seat

Where the rubber meets the road
I’ve been here too long, it’s time to go
I’ll be where the wind is in my hair
tail lights of an electric chair

Meeting street
reinforced concrete
We’re in the white heat
summer time jump seat
