Computer monitor you use with your DAW
I'm curious what size/resolution/kind of monitor folks use for mixing in their DAWs. I've had a Samsung 24" 1920x1200 monitor/TV that I bought refurbished in 2009. I just set it up in our new place and since the ambient noise where I live now is so low I can hear that it's making a high pitched squealing/ringing sound. No thanks! So I ordered a replacement, but, similar specs. Do you use a giant 4k TV? A small black and white CRT? Other?

i use a 32" 1080p Roku TV we used to have in our bedroom. Whenever I plug it in I think I hear a tiny scoff from my MacBook.

I pretty much mix in my 15" laptop. I have an external monitor I mostly use for work stuff, but rarely break it out for recording. The exception seems to be when I want the lyrics on a separate screen, or when I want to see where the drum sounds are on the piano roll.

I have a Benq monitor that is 26" I think. I usually have the main DAW window on that and stick the mixer on the 15" laptop screen.

This 27" Dell and a cheaper 27" BenQ. Both at 2560x1440. I can't imagine working with a single screen.
I'd consider replacing the BenQ with a native 1080 27" with a 144hz or faster refresh rate, but that'd just be for gaming.

Re: Compouter monitor you use with your DAW
I have a 27" iMac 5K, so, a 27" 5K display. I also have a secondary 24" 1080p monitor mounted on the wall behind my keyboard for when I'm recording that but I generally do most of my work on the built-in 27" display.
My next computer, incidentally, will probably be a Mac mini, and go back to a 27" 4K monitor, since that gives me more flexibility in my workspace (notably being able to have more than one computer hooked up to the display). There's not much visible difference between a 5K monitor running at 2880p and a 4K monitor running at 2880p HiDPI downscaled to 2160p, at least not at 27" and with my 42-year-old eyes (and my eyesight is still better than average). But I still see a huge difference between 2880p and 1440p.

Cheap Acer 22" bought off of craigslist a few years ago and an even cheaper 19" HP pavilion F1903 that was given to me. I've often thought about upgrading but $150 seems like a lot for a monitor...much less $500. Apparently I'm turning into my Dad. (Cheap, cheap. Fun, fun!)

Re: Compouter monitor you use with your DAW
I have a monitor that emits a high-pitched whine when the brightness is set a certain way. Otherwise it's fine. Before you give up on yours, try experimenting with the brightness and contrast controls.

Re: Compouter monitor you use with your DAW
Huh, OK. I'll try tweaking the settings. If that fixes it I can keep it as an external monitor for work.
