If you have put music or podcasts or anything up on Soundcloud, make sure you have a backup. The service is under financial strain and though they assure everyone that nothing is going to change, we know that people lie.

So protect your data, if you care about it.

Seems most likely they will be bought out for pennies on the dollar, rather than that they would go out of business and quickly vanish. New owners though may quickly either changes the terms of use or make other drastic measures with bad results. But that's probably a good six months off. I plan to wait. ;)

SoundCloud gets a reprieve with a new round of investment, with CEO/founder out and replaced by former Vimeo CEO, among other changes.

Following up on this old thread:

Also last year Pandora struck a deal with SoundCloud to make SoundCloud's ad inventory (which I didn't really know they had but apparently they did and do and will be increasing it so, get your ad blockers ready...) available for Pandora many advertisers through Pandora's ad sales operation, using Pandora driven ad targeting etc.

So hopefully they're on a good path at this point.

Over a year later, and yes, SoundCloud is doing fine nowadays, with a well bolstered ad business plus in February 2020 $75M from SiriusXM (which bought two seats on their board):
