dunno if it'll help you, but i hear you can make vsts using this thing called synthedit. i installed it a while ago, but didn't do much with it.

So, is this any different than when I have a certain FX chain that I do, then save it as a group so I can click 1 saved FX group to add it to a later track?
Personally, I want to know what Brad Sucks does on his vocals. I know I hear a pitch change very slightly delayed and very slightly mixed in that makes his main vocal fatter, but I can't quite put my finger on it. It may be multi pitches blended, not sure. But I know I like it!

Maybe I'm over thinking it. Par for the course for me, lol. When I was doing the "out of it" bu vox thing, I thought I heard a higher pitch mixed in there on his voice. I can't remember now.

If you just fiddle with a chorus effect you can get all sorts of sounds like that. It's possible that he also has a pitch-shift in there somewhere too though.

It's different from that. Reaper has a built-in programming language called Jesusonic, that allows you to make plugins and/or modify the existing ones.

If you've ever messed with the "signal processing studio" in Winamp, it's almost exactly the same thing (remember Reaper and Winamp were written by the same dude).

native instruments is giving away a free "kore soundpack" for the holidays, which is a bunch of sounds for their various synths. the thing is, you can download their kore player for free, which can play all these sounds and allows them to be modified quite a bit. if it works like regular kore 2, you can use this kore player as a standalone program, or as a vst or au plugin... windows or mac

downloading this should be a no-brainer!

I've just found reViSiT, a sampler/sequencer in classic module tracker style which works as a VSTi plugin. It's free and you can even get the professional version (surround support, more bus magic) for free in exchange for usage data getting collected and uploaded anonymously for scientific research.

Ooh! Too bad it doesn't seem to have a Mac version (at least, I can't seem to find any sort of system requirements which is usually a sure sign that it's Windows-only). Trackers are awesome for making drum tracks, although I outgrew them for everything else a long time ago.

That drum replacer might be just what I need to save me some time. I only own one cowbell, but I've been wanting to do more with other percussion. I found a great group of real cow bell samples and tried them in my "diggin' out" song. I had to physically place each cow bell, because I used multi pitch bells. Pain in the ass! But I was very particular on how I wanted them. It looks like the drum replacer will at least help me with the basic placing, then I have them arranged in perfect time and I can add in between hits as needed. We shall see.

What do you use a vocoder for besides vocals? This is a serious question, I'm curious because I haven't.

Sometimes. I think the effect you're thinking of is actually autotune on extreme settings. But here's a good example of vocoder in a pop song.

We were just talking about this last night in the chatroom. (Which, by the way, is still going strong, and you're all missing out if you don't check in every once in awhile.)
