General Tips

A thread for whatever you think people might want to know but don't.

Somebody here mentioned that you can play URLs in Winamp just by dragging the URL from your browser's address bar onto Winamp. I have to say that this is AWESOME.

The most frustrating thing for me about switching from IE to Firefox as my Web browser was that I could no longer just click a link on Song Fight or SomeSongs and have it start playing in Windows Media Player. Well, dragging the URL into Winamp has just alleviated that aggravation. Even better, I can drag links onto the playlist, and they'll play in the order I put them on the list.

You can also hit CTRL-L in Winamp and paste the URL of the mp3 in. I never download mp3s unless people have some sort of retarded forward thing that breaks Winamp's amazing streaming ability.

Great place for info equpment and general music related things.

Has links to page detailing everything used at Paisley Park studios. Interesting note: Prince doesn't use sequencers.

Also, on the studio tip.

This was posted before on the old board, but is worth a revisiting.

http://www.bobpower.com/home.htm

A little unintuitive to navigate, but it lays out all the equipment used to record a stack of platinum albums.

From Bob, "Shure SM57.... if I really had to, I could make a whole record with one of these". I guess I don't need new microphones then.
