Laptop headphone socket

Post by Caravan Ray »

I got a Toshiba laptop, and I seem to have buggered up the headphone socket.

It used to work - then it would only work if I jiggled it, then I could only get one speaker to work when I jiggled it - now I pretty much can't get it to work at all no matter how much I jiggle it.

Anyone know anything about this sort of thing? Is it easily remedied - or does it mean a new soundcard or something?

Ta.

possibly the jack has come unsoldered from the circuit board. Easy to remedy if you can open up the laptop and use a soldering iron.

Jiggling will contribute to your problems, you know, because when you jiggle you're kind of loosening the connection *more*. So it'll work for a while, but after enough jiggling it'll just stop working all together since you've jiggled the connection right apart.

Yeah - I think I've over jiggled.

Shame - it's my work computer - I don't think my boss will fork out for repairs just so I can sit around in the office listening to songfights and fiddling about with Fruity Loops. He's funny like that - he expects me to work. I may have to find a new job.

(and Ken - you weren't to know, but the idea of me trying to fix anything - let alone poking around a laptop with a soldering iron - is quite ridiculous. Although I am an engineer by profession - when it comes to technical-type things, I'm as practical as tits on a bull)
