Mmm, wish those were on sale.

I've had these 7506's since the 90's! I think I know what you mean about harshness-- I bought the Waves NX plugin, which has an EQ compensation setting for the 7506's, and when I engage it the sound gets much much more muted. http://www.waves.com/plugins/nx#introdu ... l-mix-room

That looks cool. did you measure your head?

I have a Focusrite VRM box that has room and speaker models and really thought it helped my mixing to switch between the different settings to see how my mix was affected. I ended up most liking the Adam monitor model.

I didn't measure my head, but the head tracking actually works! With no calibration! Headphones are my best option because baby so I think it'll be interesting to get good at mixing with them.

Today's deal is the Simmons SD300 5-piece electronic drum kit (three cymbal pads, three tom pads, 1 snare pad, integrated kick pedal+trigger, hi-hat pedal, rack, and sound module) marked down $150 from $350 to only $200. That's really cheap! You could start learning to play drums at home relatively quietly, use it to add live played drums to your songs, use it to control drum sample kits like BFD or the Logic drums, etc.

The Sennheiser 650 headphones that Ken recommended are available for the next 12 days from "Massdrop" for $200 (regularly like $316 on Amazon).

Today's stupid deal is the Pigtronix Bass Fat Drive bass overdrive pedal. Normally $149 they've applied a discount of $-300.99 so that you can buy it for a mere $449.99. What, um, WTF??!!??!?

Looks like somebody noticed and they fixed it. The real deal is $80 off, for a final sale price of $69. Seems like a pretty good deal!

MAGIX is currently selling Samplitude at an extreme discount, probably to reel in ex-SONAR users. For $149 you get Samplitude Pro X3 Suite, which includes:

* Samplitude Pro X3
* Sound Forge Pro 11 (offline audio editor)
* SpectraLayers Pro 4 (offline audio editor)
* Melodyne 4 Essential (the license is eligible for regular upgrades to more advanced editions of Melodyne, which happen to be 50% off right now in virtually all shops that sell Melodyne)
* Independence Pro Sampler (70 GB of samples, locked*)
* Vandal guitar amp VST (locked*)
* 24 virtual instruments (locked*)
* Analogue Modelling Suite (locked*)
* Audio restoration suite (locked*)

locked = can only be used in Samplitude, not in other DAWs

The offer is currently valid until 4 January, though they've already extended it several times.

Ableton Live is on Sale: https://www.ableton.com/en/shop/live

It includes an upgrade to 10 when it's released. At $359 for standard it's still pretty damned expensive. I've been using the Lite version (which is basically the same as intro and comes free with a lot of gear). It's a fun program and probably worth the dough for doing certain things.

I just heard about Black Rooster Audio, which makes cool VST emulations of vintage gear. They seem really cool and affordable. They have two free plug ins, one is a guitar amp simulator and another is a drum processing tool.

Acon Digital has a couple of free plug ins.

https://acondigital.com/products/multiply/

Acon Digital Multiply is a free and versatile chorus effect with a unique twist. Each simulated voice is processed with a phase randomizing filter so that unpleasant comb filter effects are avoided. The effect can be used to simulate the effect of several performers playing the same tones simultaneously, to widen the spatial image or to create special effects for sound design. Multiply can simulate up to 6 additional voices and both the pitch and the loudness of the voices can be modulated. There is also an integrated equalizer consisting of low cut, low shelf, high shelf and high cut filters that can be applied to the effect signal. An integrated pre-delay section makes it possible to create modulated and diffuse echo effects.

Acon Digital Multiply is available for both Windows (PC) and OS X (Macintosh). Both 32 and 64 bit versions are available, and the plug-in formats VST, AAX and Audio Units (OS X only) are supported.

You can also get a free echo from them: https://reverb.com/software/effects/aco ... everb-solo

Just one knob to dial in a world of reverb sounds.

From bright, nearly slap-back echo, to elongated cavernous rumbles, this first partnership between Acon Digital and Reverb.com brings an entirely new ambience to your tracks. With just one knob, you can dial in short, bright reverb for a small room, up-front vibe, or long, dark reverb that places your mix in deep space.
