That's compiled and distributed by Toontrack, who also did EZDrummer and SuperiorDrummer. I got a promo e-mail about this expansion a while back. At $30, it's a steal.

Today's deal is a Tascam 16-channel mixer with USB 2.0 out for $199. That's pretty cheap for something that can output 16 separate channels to your DAW, and that also functions as a standalone mixer. It's got 6 XLR inputs with preamps and phantom power, and a bunch of other ins and outs. This might be good for a small band looking to track live.

Huh, also looks pretty decent for someone who doesn't have FireWire. I wonder how bad the latency is, though - USB hasn't traditionally been particularly good for that. Or maybe today's software is good enough at latency compensation that it's not such a problem anymore, as long as you don't want to hear your effected mix while recording live.

USB 2.0 seems fine. I can do 8 tracks no problem on my laptop with my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra.

But how's the latency? How much delay is there when, say, doing software monitoring or the like?

It's like 7ms or something like that. I can check when I get home if you need the exact amount.

Oh, that's not bad at all. The last time I used a USB audio interface it was on the order of 100ms or so.

Here is a good deal. You can save $500 on a Juno Stage Synth by buying it from Best Buy instead of Musician's Friend.

Wow, if you wanted that Tascam mixer but missed the deal or passed on it because it was still too much money for you, you're in luck. They have it up again today only now it's just $149, $50 less than last time, and they still have the "3 free mics" offer as well.

Today's deal is a Simmons SD5K electronic drum kit, with kick, snare, three tom, and two cymbal pads, a hi-hat controller pedal, and a free drum stool, kick pedal, pair of sticks, and pair of headphones, for $299. I don't know if it's a great quality setup, but it seems like a decent starter electronic kit for the price, considering it includes everything you'd need to just set up and start playing.

I am in need of a new pair of headphones to use while recording and mixing. Someone smarter than me tell me whether i should bother with the ones on today's stupid deal.

Thanks.

Those are probably fine. Some people love Sennheisers although personally I find them a bit on the muddy side (the 280 at least, which was a darling model that a lot of people like). Those at least look more durable than the 280, which tends to have plastic breaking off due to bad strain design.
