Hand Drums Sample Pack - Download

Post by Kapitano »

I've come up with a sample pack you might find useful. It's 135 physically modelled hand-drums, in mono 44.1kHz WAV.

You can download it here: http://sites.google.com/site/kapdemos/H ... ms_1.0.rar

The are five drum types - or rather, drum pitches:
* Doumbek: 55Hz (A0)
* Conga: 110Hz (A1)
* Bongo: 220Hz (A2)
* Tabla: 440Hz (A3)
* Timbale: 880Hz (A4)

Each of the types is hit at three places:
* Center: The middle of the skin, for the biggest sound.
* Edge: The rim, where the skin meets the body, for resonance in the drum cage instead of the skin and the air inside.
* Half: Halfway between the two.

Each has three lengths:
* Long
* Medium
* Short

And there are three levels of muting:
* Open: Not muted
* Palm: Muted at the edge, damping higher frequencies (often the difference between this and the open sound is quite small)
* Mute: Muted at the center, damping lower frequencies

So "Conga Edge Short Mute" will give you a short, small 'plink', with a low fundamental frequency but high ringing - good for punctuating the main beats. "Timbale Center Long Open" is a harsh, ringing, high metalic sound, possibly usable as a snare.

There are 135 permutations, and it's expected you'll select a few that you want and discard the others.

Oh, very cool. I'm downloading now. Thanks.

Maybe it should go in the free plug thread.

A useful little site which I'd managed to miss - thanks for making it, and including me.

Just a thought: I've got the Kjaerhus 'Classic' free plugin set - EQ, comp, reverb etc. I didn't make them, but for years before Kjaerhus went bankrupt they were among the go-to basic-effect VSTs. They're simple, very low CPU, sound good and still sought after.

I'm just not sure of the ethics of hosting someone else's free stuff when they're not hosting anything anymore. But I will if you think it's okay.

Bugger. Looks like I messed up the filenames. That's what you get for working through the night - a result that only makes sense when you're half asleep.

I'll take this an an opportunity to do it again, bigger and better. After a decent sleep.
