Garageband/Mac problem
For some reason I can't drag iTunes files into Garageband anymore.
Anyone ever seen this?
I have been recording an album. Very slowly. Finally...after a lot of work on the weekend - I got a song close to finish. Then we had a storm Sunday night and a power cut. Naturally I had not saved my work - so it was lost - BUT - I still have all the bounce-downs to iTunes I had done over the weekend.
But now I can't drag them back into Garageband...WTF!?!?!

Re: Garageband/Mac problem
Shouldn't you be able to click on the track in iTunes and see where the actual file is stored? On Windows I can right-click and use an option to "Show in Windows Explorer" - and you should be able to drag that to Garageband.

Re: Garageband/Mac problem
I seem to have found the problem
There is some issue with the latest versions of iTunes and OSX - which means you can no longer drag straight from iTunes to GB anymore (as I have been doing every day for the last 5 years)
You have to open up the media browser in GB and drag files from there.
No big hassle I suppose - but they could have warned me. Now Jobsy has gone - seems like the place has gone to the dogs.
Though one thing slightly annoying is I always sorted iTunes by "latest added" when recording so that the last bounced track was always at the top. I can't work out how to do that in the media browser window. I just see a whole lot of tracks with the same name.
Any assistance would be appreciated

Re: Garageband/Mac problem
Doesn't clicking the date or time headings in the Media Browser sort them by date or time? Not like I'm a Mac guy or anything...

In iTunes, select the track you want. Then ctrl-clik and select 'reveal in Finder'. This will (surprise!) show the mp3 file in the Finder. You can then drag it direct to Garageband.
In iTunes you can often drag from the Library but not from a smart playlist or similar. I don't know why. It's dumb. I love Macs but iTunes is a world of hurt.

The (my) Media Browser only has 3 columns - Title/Artist/Time - and you can sort by these. My problem is I can't work out how to add a "Date Added" column.Spud wrote:Doesn't clicking the date or time headings in the Media Browser sort them by date or time? Not like I'm a Mac guy or anything...

That adds extra steps to the way I used to do it.sportswriters wrote:In iTunes, select the track you want. Then ctrl-clik and select 'reveal in Finder'. This will (surprise!) show the mp3 file in the Finder. You can then drag it direct to Garageband.
That is not acceptable
No - since the update to iTunes - you cannot drag from the Library to Garagaband. That is the problem.sportswriters wrote: In iTunes you can often drag from the Library but not from a smart playlist or similar. I don't know why. It's dumb. I love Macs but iTunes is a world of hurt.

Odd. Mine has 4. One of them is "Date".Caravan Ray wrote:The (my) Media Browser only has 3 columns - Title/Artist/Time - and you can sort by these. My problem is I can't work out how to add a "Date Added" column.

control+click on any title in the Media Browser to open a context menu, choose "Show Columns" and select "date".

iTunes 10 is a piece of poo. This is just one of the many ways in which they screwed it up badly.
You could just switch to a different media manager. Oh wait, there isn't one, because it's a Mac. Sigh.

Nope - that doesn't work.Spud wrote:control+click on any title in the Media Browser to open a context menu, choose "Show Columns" and select "date".
I can only get 3 columns in my garageband media browser - and cannot sort by date.
Found a new way of doing things. I can drag from iTunes to desktop - then desktop to Garageband
But that is one extra mouse click out of my life for every import.
And I'm not getting any younger.
Why can't GB merge tracks itself? That would solve a lot of problems.

Re: Garageband/Mac problem
Maybe they're trying to raise the bar to piracy through a mechanism that will only stop stupid people and only make everyone else annoyed?
