so drum plugins... they're cool right?

Post by BBABM »

i have been away for a while, due in no small part to faulty equipment. i have replaced the equipment, and have decided that now is the time to switch to reaper, as it seems to be the one that the largest of the most vocal people seem to be into... and its free... However, i need drums! there are no pre-installed loops that i could find, and i have no idea how to mess with all the midi programming. i have tried to scour the forums here for some sort of "point and click drum machine loop app" and have been unsuccessful. i have seen mention of EZDrummer, which sounds like it's a.)easy, and b.) a drummer in my computer c.) more or less what im looking for... except it's $175. do any of you wonderful people out there in music production land have any advice, pointers, a shove in the correct direction for me? i have found mdrummer_small which i am going to try... ill let you know how that pans out.

I too would love an easy to use, not-so-many-frill drum machine program for OS X. I used to use Reason but frankly it takes too much time for me to program in Reason, possibly because I suck. Any suggestions?

Jast uses something that automagically does drums, and sounds good. I have no idea what it is, but it doesn't sound like each song takes 4 hrs of tedious programming.
Irwin: I'd sell my soul to jesus to program drums like signboy.

Yeah. I use Jamstix. Sometimes it produces stuff that's pretty close to random, but in any case you don't have to go into the sequencer if you don't want to (and don't have overly crazy ideas).
There's a demo version.

I like to use the built-in drumkit sample sets in Logic Studio. I sequence drums by clicking around at random with the mouse until it sounds good.

I like any drum program that IS BFD, a cousin of BFD a brother or sister of BFD or any relative of BFD. There are so many names, I can't keep track. I don't care if it's programed hit by hit or sequenced, as long as they are REAL sessions. I really REALLY like real drums in my music. I love that I can work out drums with a guitar on my lap, find a riff/find a beat, then arrange a PRO session on my computer exactly how I want to arrange it without complaints, with real drums from a high end studio. I love playing my own drums, but I can't match the studio recording quality of drum sessions played at Big Boy Studios in Tennessee, etc.

Toontrack EZDrummer used here at Mojoville. Pretty much bug free and I believe available for less than $175 now.

I have heard and like EZdrummer. I've never used it. but if I remember right, they merged with one of the bigs like BFD or some other thing I like. Maybe like Stix? You look it up, pervs!
