new cord for my sure mike

Post by hillbilly »

bought a new 6' xlr3 female cable to xlr3 male for desk top, the xlr input, channel 3 on my lil Samson mixer has phantom power when needed, maybe all ways. This mike dosent require it. Now I hear a lot of popping and static when the mike is moved or touched, but it seems to record louder. Can you plug a reg. mike into a phantom input, or did I buy a bad cable, I know it isn't the mike?

It'd be helpful for other people with similar problems to know the answer though.

Whether or not this had to do with the solution, it's perfectly fine to plug a dynamic, ribbon, or otherwise non-phantom-powered mic into a phantom input.

yes and my old sure mike seems to be a lil more sensitive to input loudness.

Except it's not fine for ribbon mics that don't have protection against melting from phantom power. I hear all the new ones do, but it's worth keeping in mind...
