Toy Music

Post by Niveous »

Seeing as the toy music talk had usurped the What's a Cover thread, I decided to make a new thread just for Toy Music.

Music like Psapp! I just got into Psapp in a search for music done in interesting time signatures and came across Psapp who use toys to make their music and covered "Everybody Wants To Be A Cat"!

Even the Grey's Anatomy theme by Psapp (aka Cosy in the Rocket) is pretty cool.

Psapp is totally awesome. Their use of squeaky dog toys remains unmatched

Manitoba (aka Caribou) also uses a lot of random sounds, but it's mostly "musical" toys like toy piano and glockenspiel.

What? Where can I find such a thing?!

The Residents recorded quite a few songs with toys. I thought the B-side Goosebumps was all toys, but can't verify it right now.

A lot of the American McGee's Alice soundtrack was composed by Chris Vrenna (NIN, Tweaker) using broken children's toys. It can be quite great at times.

I point out again that my Hey Ruth contains a gamelon break done with my kids' toy instruments.

Define "toy". Many of Octothorpe's recordings feature this:

Pianosaurus was a band made from toys. Also, that band with the instruments made from vegetables. Also, Twink, who made a record from other kids records.

He uses toy pianos. His website includes pics of his whole collection. Plus a great Devo cover.

HAHAHAHAHA!

It's my third one. The only way you will get it is by stealing it from me, like the first two.

Maybe this thread got into my head subliminally, but earlier today I was thinking how Chart pop music is like toy music; Shiny and oversimplified for a fickle audience with a tiny attention span.

I do love Psapp though

Pumpkin Buzzard's Hoppin' Bug features a very tiny toy keyboard in its chorus.
