Kissing Contest really rocked in their winning "Standing in the Death Car" entry:

I wonder what the story was with those guys? I seem to find some indication on the Interwebs that they showed up for one of the first SF! live events?

There's a lot of story with those guys (Ficus & Baron). They made frequent appearances at SF under various monikers: Kissing Contest, Lemon Party, Next Contestant, and a few others. One of the two used to post on the old version of the forum as "Ranch on Suede".

I just listened to this old Patrick Clayton song, for "That's the Spirit". It's really good! Check it out:

http://www.songfight.org/music/thats_th ... hespir.mp3

Whoa, now I'm listening to Frankie going falsetto over some Phil Collins sounding backing tracks, for his "Run Free". I feel like I've heard a different version of this song somewhere, like a cover or something?

I just listened to c.layne's Song Fight! entries from oldest to newest. All good stuff and it's really cool to hear his sound evolve over the years:

I really liked this Seamus song from the "Big Yankee Fan" fight.

http://www.songfight.org/music/big_yank ... us_byf.mp3

Ooh, and this "Dry Spell" entry by Elly Lane & the Janglin's Jims, which sounds like a collab between Elaine DiMasi, Wages or the Weakest Suit, and others?

http://www.songfight.org/music/dry_spel ... ims_ds.mp3

And this old "Thunder Storm" entry by Explode16 is a long time fav or mine:

http://www.songfight.org/music/thunders ... hunder.mp3

Man, random play is turning up some good stuff today. I think I may sign up for Twitter and start tweeting these songs/links, rather than spamming the boards...

Favs of mine from the archives (and I haven't really played a great deal of the stuff from the last few years, sorry - I'm still trawling through the 20+GB of music available on SF!!!):

Husky Youth - by JBB
Skyline - Milwaukee Youth Center Choir (one of my top 10 favourite songs ever of all time)
Tracks for Future Practice - Frankie Big Face
Top Drawer - Abjure! (A JBB pseudonym - the greatest folk song with three part harmony swearing you'll ever hear!!!)
Stuck Down A Mineshaft - Stateshirt (Ethan (aka Stateshirt) doesn't care that much for it I think, but I really dig it)
Secrets - Brick Pig
Dad I'm Changing - Duboce Triangle
Firecrackers - Dr Worm
Indie Rock Bottom - Mouth reliant
Death Pllunge - Glorious Mono
Standing In The Death Car - Narbotic

When I think of some others, i will post them...

Cheers

jippers' "step up" is one of the greatest Song Fight tracks of all time! (although the 2nd best in that fight, to the almighty Jefferson....)

I was listening to a few tracks from the Ken Hxaro and "2 Bucks and I'm Yours" came on, and I remembered why I loved this track so much at the time. Still love it now.

This Mother Funker entry for "Baba Ganoush" is a pretty good instrumental entry, especially the sweet slap bass solo.

In my epic SF Archive listening marathon, I'm putting together a sort of Hall of Fame. It has hundreds of songs in it, but I keep coming back to a few dozen songs over and over. Example:

Frankie Big Face - Floating Bridge
add - Acid Mouth
Hostess Mostess - Totally Digging Your Mom

Yeah! This has always been one of my top 5 SF songs ever, and HM is probably my all time favorite SFer. He's in that small handful of SFers in which when I hear one of his better songs I throw up my hands and wonder why I'm bothering to write music at all.

"Romantic Cheapskate" by MC Frontalot is seriously great: http://www.songfight.org/music/romantic ... lah_rc.mp3

And one of the most lopsided fights of all time, which just makes the lyrics all that much BETTER.

http://www.songfight.org/songpage.php?k ... cheapskate

614 votes for Frontalot. Second place? 28. SO PITIFUL I WON'T EVEN TYPE THE POOR BASTARD'S NAME HERE.

Also noteworthy for being one of the only winners (and generally-perceived to be "good") to break the "Don't make your Song Fight entry about Song Fight" rule.

Are there any other people who've gotten away with that?
