Don't think I have mentioned this band here - but they are a band from Perth, and have been my NEW FAVOURITE BAND for about 2 years now.
just released their new single - and wow - it is an instant classic. They are not normally a political band, but this is very political (very Australian political) and fucking spot on. I won't even try to explain what "Tamun Shud" is - but it is a beautifully obscure reference they use wonderfully:
I would also recommend their wonderful previous album: I See Seaweed:
more typical of what they do - sort of an Australian Sonic Youth with Tom Wait's Australian cousin on lead vocals.

Re: The Drones
I like the use of dynamics in that second song. It kind of reminds me of this band called Crime & the City Solution, or Nick Cave or something. Actually it's kind of close to prog-rock for you, isn't it?

Re: The Drones
You can't possibly bring up something like "Taman Shud", then say you won't bother saying anymore about it, then you say it's a "beautiful obscure reference" used wonderfully. That's like telling me not to push the big red button!
So naturally I couldn't do anything else until I knew everything there was to know about Taman Shud. And I must say, it was not a waste of 30 minutes of my life. In fact, it is quite an interesting mystery. Referencing Australian terms ate up about half my time. But I feel enlightened by the experience, good sir.*adjusts my monocle*
Also, when I referenced the term "pasty" found in the dead man's stomach contents, thinking they misspelled pastry. Then learning it is spelled that way and is a meat pastry.
Then I remembered when you (CR) once mentioned here at the mighty Song Fight that the term pie can only describe a pastry full of steaming hot meat and the gravy running down your arm as you eat it giving you 3rd degree burns. Not verbatim, but something to that effect. No time to search the SF archive, gota go!
