Though I'm unsure of who I would give the greatest rapper crown to. Jay-Z has some phenomenal lyrical flow and I might have to give it to him. Have any of you heard him on the Amy Winehouse "Rehab" remix. Unbelievable.
I never realized Ice Cube got that much 'spect as a rapper. Guess I'll check it out.Ross wrote: The only rap album I remember enjoying and being impressed by was teh first Ice-Cube album.
In my earlier list, I forgot to mention Blackalicious. One of my first introductions to rap as a genre of serious potential was a ten-minute-long Blackalicious track called "Release" featuring Lyrics Born, Saul Williams, and Zack de la Rocha. It's from their 2002 album Blazing Arrow. Check it out if you haven't.

Some reasons Jay-Z is incredible:
- Releases a capellas so you can hear the utter lack of punch-ins
Masterful wordplay
Has a ton of rhythm and delivery styles
NEVER WRITES DOWN LYRICS

Oh let me modify what I said: I meant "liked" not "loved". Still didn't like the raps, though.

Atmosphere is a group. You guys are talking of the rapper, Slug, and yes he is phenomenal.Niveous wrote:Atmosphere is insane. I just started listening to him again recently. He's got a great flow.

Yes, I always make that mistake. Sometimes I forget Ant's contributions. Maybe because they aren't of the same caliber as Slug's. They aren't like Gangstarr where Guru and DJ Premier are on equal footing.Denyer wrote: Atmosphere is a group. You guys are talking of the rapper, Slug, and yes he is phenomenal.

Ant's only real problem is that he wears himself a little too thin by DJing full-time for Atmosphere and for Brother Ali. I thought his work on God Loves Ugly was mostly daring and fun to listen to. Same with Shadows on the Sun, and especially for Ali's Champion EP, but You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having and The Undisputed Truth both sound like Ant's just phoning it in, which results in neither of those albums being nearly as engaging as their predecessors.
And yeah, I always mix up Atmosphere with Slug, too. Oh well; everyone knew what I (we) meant.
