So I've been recruited at the last minute (due to pretty much everyone else getting sick) to go down to Stanford to work our booth at the Stanford career fair tomorrow, so I can try to select the next generation of software engineers at my fine company. I figure that when trying to recruit students to a company which is considered to be the absolute epitome of "the suits" I should try to come across as casual, but on the other hand I also don't want to be unprofessional. So, I'm going to dress how I normally dress (t-shirt tucked in, button-up shirt unbuttoned and untucked, which is a style I shamelessly cribbed from Spud), with the twist that I'll actually iron my shirt for once.

Then in the evening, I have <em>a date</em>. With a <em>girl</em>. Oh, what a brave new world we live in.

qotd: What's your favorite quick-and-easy snack food?

These days I like to toast a slice of sourdough bread, spread butter on it, drizzle it with honey, and then grind some fresh nutmeg over the top. It's warm and sweet and savory all at once.

Then you and Spud are well dressed men. I do the same, but I like my button up shirt to be a bowling shirt of one type or another, and I like a tank top (not sure of the correct name for muscle man shirts, but hate calling them wife beaters) underneath. Ironing is optional, but Polo cologne is a must.

QOTD: I know this is terrible, but I make a grilled peanut butter and banana sang'which. It's done the same way you make a grilled cheese, butter both sides of the bread and put it in a frying pan, except with peanut butter and banana slices instead of cheese. It ROCKS!

Hello everybody. I've been busy but also thinking about youse guys. I had time to listen to the fights and vote yesterday, but didn't take the time to sign in and say hello. I have downloaded the GOM songs and am making my way through them. That's some good stuff there and I am already getting blown away. Then on to Purple Reign, the next fights...man, this place is packed!

Level 3 went down in Tampa yesterday, made for an interesting day. (but not in the good way) Today is just nothing but call backs. "Yes Mam/Sir it does appear to be stable now, what? Uh, no... Level 3 is actually a major bandwidth provider for many Internet Service Providers... wha? Alternative bandwidth provider for these types of situations?.... yeah...I mean...well, that provider will probably also be using Level 3 bandwidth. Yes mam/sir"

qotd: I'm simple, I like PB&J's... I'm also into the Cliff Bar as of late. But, I have been enjoying Bacon & Tomato sandwiches with a little mayonnaise, salt and pepper (for the tomato). Had that last night. Delicious.

Sams Club sells this big box o' containers of edamame that you pop in the microwave for 3 minutes, add salt, and eat. That's easy! Also very tasty and a healthy snack. We are having this often these days.

News: So, on the way home on the train last night, we were in what is technically called a 'collision'. Not sure on the particulars, but somehow a car had knocked a boom gate as the train went by, and the boom gate impaled the front of the train. Just add another notch to the belt that is the continuing farce of the Adelaide rail system.

QOTD: Quick an easy snack food? Doritos? When I am feeling snackish I have a tendency to just pick at random stuff in the cupboard. Unless I'm at work, then its across the road to the hospital for a giant, delicious muffin.

when in season, my favorite tasty snack delight is fresh strawberries and whipped cream lovingly wrapped in a cheap flour tortilla which i toss directly on the burner of my gas stove and flip a couple times on low heat. get it nice and warm. then wrap the cut up strawberries and whip cream and roll it up.

i call it a mexican crepe.

hey fluffy, not that you care, but stanford is a much different crowd than berkeley, in my experiences (i used to work right up the street). it's a pretty button down crowd, so you can go in your version of "business casual" but i'm just giving you fair warning.....

I do not iron. Ever. Ironing is the stupidest thing ever invented, and I look down on "ironers" with unbridled scorn. I wear my wrinkles with pride. Ironing shirts is just one more step down the slippery slope to fascism (did you ever see a slovenly Nazi? No - of course not. Creases like knives, long knives).

When the revolution comes - ALL clothing will be made of easy-care synthetics, and all paraphernalia associated with that most useless of human endevours will be cast upon great bonfires. The flames will reach to the sky and the children will sing.

I don't understand where the savory comes in. This just sounds like a pretentious west coast version of the thing where you put cinnamon and sugar on top of buttered toast. Although maybe it's worth a try...it does sound good...and I still have about 10.5 out of 11 pounds of honey that I bought at the Whole Foods Market on clearance...I've got to find something to do with it, or I'll be carting around honey every time I move house for my entire life.

In any case, it's quite interesting that you bring up the whole putting-things-on-buttered-toast thing. I've just made an amazing discovery on this front. You get any good savory bread, toast and butter it, and put on just some onion powder, and maybe a little bit of salt. It tastes just like the "sour cream & onion" variety of those pretzels from the mall. Their formula probably has buttermilk powder, or something absurd like that, and some fillers, probably parsley for color, because people think onions are green, but it's really unnecessary, unless you're into that. I suppose just some green onions or chives would be good, too. Or whatever you're into. All kinds of powdered things are really wonderful on toast. The same sorts of things you might put on...

POPCORN. I make great popcorn, too. Then again, it wasn't a hard thing to figure out. Is there going to be a popcorn contest at the next SFL? Not that I'd enter, really. But I could judge.
