ermm....

the sheds - my cousins and i recording in my grandma's shed.

silvertwinkie - my buddy and i recording in a 60's era trailer home

the naïve - my cousins and i recording in their basement

gigantic apple co. - weird electro music with my friend.. this stuff still freaks me out.

hairy scrotes - another AF guy and myself. we never actually recorded anything, but we went around to the different dormitories on base with an acoustic guitar, a mic, and an amp, and would make up songs as people walked by until the cops were inevitibly called on us.

f-bomb - most of you guys have heard this one. we submitted once to songfight a while back. stupid rap music with too much cussing.

now, i just play with myself.

i've only really been in one "band" which formed when i was in high school and has been going sporadically ever since, with multiple hiatii and lineup changes (and hence name changes).

we started as "vague road" which never progressed beyond the on-paper phase. i was going to play drums because i had a crappy drumset and rob was going to play keyboard because his sister had a crappy keyboard and steve was going to be the sound engineer because he had a crappy 4-channel radio shack mixer.

this soon became "nothing" with basically the same lineup, and lasted maybe half a dozen practises, until we realised that i couldn't play drums and rob couldn't play keyboards.

i switched to keyboard, rob bought a guitar, and steve bought a drum machine. we reformed as "pink noise" which lasted probably two years or so.

after a break of several months, rob bought a bass and brought in his friend rich to play it. the rest of the line-up stayed the same though i had a slightly better keyboard now courtesy our new bassist. we called ourselves "yttrium" which lasted probably three or four years. during that time, rich moved away, and i bought a real keyboard and began playing both the bass and keyboard parts.

then a lengthier break happened when i got married and stuff. after that we re-formed again as "boxed garlic" when i bought a bass, rob bought a better guitar and steve bought a real drum set. we've continued this line-up on and off (currently off) for about the past four years.

these are bands i've played live with.

recording wise, i have simply too many project band names to remember....

band du jour (1995-1996) - which evolved into......
squirmer (1996-2000) - which devolved into the acoustic spinoff....
brody (2000-present) - which added a harmonica player and played a show as.....
cameltone (2001) - which only lasted for one show. just like....
yokels only (2002) - which featured a crazy guy named blue on the ukelele and also lasted one show, just like......
the bloody hams (2004) - who have a song in this weeks red fight, if it ever comes up ;)

Played for about 2 years in a band called The Mess, which evolved into The Hot Thirsty Dogs (Johnny Rottweiller aka Caravan Ray - vox/gtr, Dingo Starr - drums and Bruce Foxton-Terrier - bass) which carried on for another year or so before folding. Briefly appeared in the ill-fated, The Love Pumps, who disintegrated almost as quickly as they appeared.

Later carried on with part-time duos The Orange Whips and Till The Cows Come Home.

There are rumors of a The Mess 20-year-reunion show to happen sometime in the next couple of years (played our first show in late 1985)

First band, in 8th grade, was Harmful Fumes, a Beatles cover band.
I forget the next, an Aerosmith cover band. Short lived.
The next never really had a name, just played Led Zep and Tull at parties.
I played occassionally with Southern Comfort which covered Allman Brothers, Doobie Brothers, and southern rock in general.
Then in college there was Business Black playing originals the the singer/trumpeter and I wrote. Played clubs and CBGBs.
After college, Solefish played the Jersey shore (Stone Pony, Green Parot) and CBGBs and various other NYC dives. Same songwriters as Business Black. Better band though.

I don't miss the band scene. But I miss the people.

Vlad Smut and the Swanks
Phil (Vlad Smut) sang and played guitar, I (Zoey Smut) played bass and Len (Lenny Voodoo) played drums.

The song Say the Word, by the Hell Yeahs, is about how much I miss being in that band.

I was in a ska band called No Time to Lose. We played terrible venues (small-town churches), "kicked out" members (by spinelessly breaking up, reforming, and renaming without whichever person was in question), went on long hiatus, reformed, released an album after three practices, got pissed off at going nowhere, and broke up for good. The guitarist, lead singer (/one of the trombone players), and myself later went on to form When Robots Ruled the World, which currently still exists, ROCKS YOU HARD, and actually plays real shows.

I was also in various jazz combos and did well-paying gigs for various things. (Some were even on radio and television.)

Oh, and I guess I was also part of SF collaboration group The Old People, which was only myself and Sparks.

The moral: No band needs three trombone players. Except Slipknot's upcomming swing album.

Band's I've been in: The Bloody Hams. One show, two practices, 10 (?) songs. Otherwise, nope, no other bands. Check back next semester and I might be in one.

nah sadly enough i only mentioned live names...

i was supposed to go to the studio and record with virgin blood, but i ended up quitting before that happened...

(do sort of wished i had stuff of crys to haunt though... i had some crazy stuff goin' on there)... not heavy just freaky sounding... back then i was a much better keyboard player...
piano has always been an off on thing... i'm still currently warming back up... while my guitar is in hiattus... haha...

Three trombones, a trumpet, and rhythm section. The weird thing is that it actually sounded kinda cool. Would've sounded better if the band could get their shit together, but still. Surprising, at least.

I was in a punk-rap band at college. We were so un-together we never came up with a name. Though 'The Satans' was suggested. Yes, well.

But I did have an affair with the bassist.

My limited bandage -

The Hideously Bloated Capitalists - punk rock foursome, based around the dubious concept that the drummer only hit one drum at any one time.

We had a huge falling out, reformed without the singer/guitarist as The Weirdness Magnet. Got in a fabulous jazz drummer (in he could play. He was a total pain in the arse.) We became a punk jazz band if you can imagine such a thing. Better than it sounds.

Moved to London. Formed a band called Birmingham. One of those 'What Might of Been' scenarios.

Briefly played in a band with no name with very nice bloke who went on to play guitar with PJ Harvey. My one musical name-drop. Excuse me.

Lost all interest in music as a way to communicate with people for about four years. Then started recording with some friends as We Am Cretin. This metamorphosed into Sherlock Homo which was basically me solo using bits of friends' basslines/guitar parts etc to make entirely new songs. This led to Johnny Cashpoint, which led to my first live gig in an age. Also played bass then with Masters of Grip.

And that as they say is that.

Fun thread... let's see:

Back To Front 87-91ish
(which started as The Still, Admittance Restricted, and at one point, The Bloody Hams was suggested by Leaf..): High School band with Leaf, mix of covers and original, recorded and released 1 full length cassette, played gigs around town, had a manager.....some seedy dude who saw us play at a competition and signed us up to be the next U2...still owes us $$..Duke Street Management

Bright Red & Black 92-99
(began as Gherkin Mechanics): all original band formed while attending college, gigged regularly and recorded 1 full length CD, prepro'd tracks for another, but never studio'd them. **forgot that Leaf was our drumator for 92-93..he set the bar pretty high**

RAIL 01-02
(this band also supplied backing music for singer songwriter Peter Biro's recording project, which I was producing)
Another all original band that wrote 5 songs that kicked ass and then fizzled out into a haze of arguments, egos, and parties. Tonetripper was in this too, gigged a few times.

Which brings me to now...redcar with my peeps TT and Leaf...and of course, TheHipCola - c'est moi.

The only "real" band I'm in is Brainpipe, which you should know.
My first jam was with a couple of friends of mine in my college dorm room, which I later called "Blackmail Material." It's awful.
There are a bunch of internet collabs.
Also Tapegerm which is a mega-internet-collab.
Oh, and SEB, which was with my sister's kids, that was a "band." :)

I was in a band back in High School that never really got a name, or songs, or a complete set of people that were actually in the band. We had me on Drums, and a really great Bass player. Then it mixed up into a guitartist that always flaked out on us. Another guitarist that showed up once and then never could be found again. A singer that insisted that his Screaming was a style of singing. He even drank pure Honey "to keep his throat in top screaming condition". He just stopped coming around when we could finally schedule practrices. We had a guy attempt to be our Jazz/Rock Saxaphone player, I was none to thrilled about this because for one I hated the guy and also at the time I didn't think a band should have a Saxaphone in it. We attempted to get a guitarist that was actually really good, but then he moved out of state. Thus... no band, no name, but me and the Bass Player would Jam out and have a grand ol time. I actually wrote some of the lyrics for what could have been our songs, but that never panned out. I wish I still had that note book.
