The Song Love Lounge

Post by Niveous »

Hello everyone, welcome to the Song Love Lounge.

bohemian finger snaps

I'm your master of ceremonies, Niveous. Let me tell you what the Song Love Lounge is all about. This isn't a high pressure deadline ridden sidefight. None of that stuff allowed here. This is all about the song love.

I'm going to list 4 songs by Songfighters and all you have to do is pick one and cover it. There's no deadlines here. Just pick one and cover it. You don't even have to talk about your work until it's done.

Once a cover of a song is done, I'll take it off the list and replace it. You get the cover in first and you get to pick the replacement.

If you're working on a cover and it's taken off the list because someone did it first...don't worry, this is songlove. You can still send it here.

And don't forget to post your cover here at the lounge for all to hear.

bohemian finger snaps

So I've talked enough, bring on the songlove. Pick a song, cover it, and spread the songlove.
Yes, I kinda stole this concept from the BBC Live Lounge, so what?

...and since songfight is now hosting covers of SF songs:

http://songfight.net/covers/

...I will try to keep up with copying covers done here into the cover archive. And if there's anybody who'd like to do a cover for the Love Lounge and can't host the songs, PM me and we can put the songs directly into the cover archive...

Niv - you should be able to link directly to the .mp3 files rather than to the song pages, since your post is within songfight.net...

JB - what's the second line of the bridge on New Planet? "Have they all been found... ??? for hours..."

Well, I must be on KA's foe list or something, because I tried to PM him twice and it got sent to the outbox and wouldn't leave. If anyone wants to tell him, I have another dozen SF! covers if he wants them. If not, no big whoop.

I suggest a slight modification. Let the coverer pick the song that will replace the song they just covered, rather than let it be the all-Niv show :)

Not an all-Niv show. That's blashphemy. That's heresy. That's a horrendous disservice against mankind.

That's a good idea actually. Spread the love.

You get the cover in first and you get to pick the replacement. All I ask is that if you get to choose, remember there's a whole lot of archive to choose from...

Hi - I did get two PMs from you, but it said you had already removed the message. So send again, and even if it gives you a weird message, leave your stuff in the outbox and we'll see if I get it...

Thanks, Charles. I sent you another PM and will leave it alone in the outbox. :)

On topic, I like this idea, Niv, and think Bill's suggestion is good as well.

Nothing would make me happier than to cover a Melvin song. Especially after he turned one of my songs into a masterpeice set to be in a movie. But uhh, I don't think so. :P That would be like trying to replicate the Taj Mahal using legos.

You'd learn a lot doing a cover, Rone. Give it a try. Who cares if it's better?

It's true, a lego Taj Mahal wouldn't be as impressive as the real Taj Mahal. But it would a Lego replica of the Taj Mahal, and that's pretty cool too, right? I say go for it! This is the Love Lounge, after all.

I might tackle that Seth tune sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Hey hey! I haven't been keeping an eye on this thread. I'd be thrilled and flattered to have any of you cover my tune! Here are the lyrics:

Brimming With Tears by Melvin

From my porch I look at the stars
And I’d give anything to know where you are
To know where you are
To know where you are
To know where you are

Time goes so slow when I know you’re not around
Silence pierces my ears
Moonlights burns my eyes as they’re brimming with tears

Raise a glass to my long lost friend
And I’d give anything to see you again
To see you again
To see you again
To see you again

Hope only sinks when I think you’re gone for good
Dreams turn into fear
Daylight burns my eyes as they’re brimming with tears

I’d give
I’d give
I’d give
I’d give anything for just one more kiss

Life just stands still – please say you’ll be coming back
Wake me in a year – can’t bear to open my eyes if they’ll always brim with tears
It’s my worst fear
hi!
