i think you could bust out a good "girlfriend in a coma" if you dared. but you gotta make it your own and not mock up morrisey.

Awesome.

There's a lot of great songs left, any takers. It would be a shame to do a Smiths coverfight without "Panic" or "The Boy with the Thorn in his Side". And what about some Morrissey? Any takers on "Boy Racer"? "November Spawned A Monster"? "Tomorrow"? "Ouija board, Ouija board"???
Oh, I didn't even consider the Morrissey solo stuff.
I'm changing mine to Boy Racer. Way more my style.

Good choice, or maybe from Morrisey's solo catalogue 'Everyday is like Sunday" or "First Of The Gang To Die"

I am definitely doing "Bigmouth" but if anyone fancies a swing at "Panic" or "Ask" in some collaborative form let me know.

Well, if he's takin' my choice, I suppose I can find something else to rock out.

You absolutely get first dibs on that Hoblit - I haven't chosen anything for sure yet.

OK, I've made my choice: "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now."

Just don't expect any of that falsetto.

Been away for a while, need to get some focus, can think of nothing better than doing this, god knows which track, but whichever I'll definately de-humanize it... expect something odd!

Either 'Sweet and Tender Hooligan' or 'London' or 'Panic' or 'Sheila Take A Bow' (Caravan Ray should really do Sheila Take A Bow!)

If 'Panic' is still up for grabs, I think I'd like to change my song choice. Paint a Vulgar Picture is a brilliant song, but it's over 5 bloody minutes long!

I would just like to point out a Robert Smith quote:

"If Morrisey says 'Don't eat meat', I'll eat meat, because I hate Morrisey."

Robert Smith is fucking awesome.

Shit the bed, this is why I should never stay away from SF for too long. I can't believe I nearly missed out on this. Put me down for 'Well I Wonder' - I know if I start thinking about this too much I'll never be able to settle on a song.

I am mega-looking forward to hearing some of the covers mooted for this fight.

Aww lame, this was one of the ones I wanted to hear the most. Come on, where's yer stamina?! Of course you could always just do a 3 minute version, hmmm?

Actually, that's kind of a relief. I was having a hard time with that one. I might try something else instead.

Wow, no one took Boy With The Thorn In His Side? That one's mine then.

So how's everyone's entries coming along then?

My "Panic" is pretty much ready to send in, but I don't want to be first.

Pedro - I might still give "Paint a Vulgar Picture" a go.

Weird, this is my first post on the new board. Anyway, I think we've finally decided on William it Was Really Nothing. It was a tough choice, but I think it will be fun. So, any of the other ones I kinda laid claim to are up for grabs. :D

Have now completed the skeletal phase of 'Is It Really So Strange?' and will spend the next two weeks tinkering with effects and vocals, It's an ethereal approach to the Smiths!!

I'm realizing for the first time how minimalistic Johnny Marr's guitar was a lot of the time and trying to figure out how to overcome that in what will most likely be a G&G song.

Nice work, I found this to be an extremely pleasant listening experience, I like the vibrato in your voice from about half way onward!

Ah, thanks for the kind words... It's always a little nerve wracking when you first submit a song for others to listen to... but as long as some folks like it, then it makes it worth it. thanks again... can't wait to hear the other songs...

A valiant effort, ujnhunter.

Having said that, I've come to the unequiovocal conclusion that covering The Smiths is a Bad Idea. At least for me.

Here's my version of Panic.
