Are you f**king kidding me?
This is the thread for people that can't believe that people can be SO into video games that they post about it. I would rather build a bird house that no birds ever came to, before I'd sink any time into a video game.

Re: Are you f**king kidding me?
I'm with you BLT.
My cousin's hobby when he isn't working is pretty much video games. He puts a lot of time into them and I always felt that was kind of a waste. However, he is married and has a kid and works as a programmer. It's just his 'television'. It is also worth noting that he is into the video game social networking thing as well. So in a way it's his television and his friends. (Sound familiar?)
I too think video games are incredible waste of time that I wouldn't want to invest such a precious commodity into either. It seems pointless and the fun factor just seems look more like obsession to me whenever I do watch gamers do their thing. Once back when I was in late teens I was tripping on mescaline and was feeling pretty good and wanted to go outside and generally do stuff, but the guys I was with picked up the video game console. They sat there and played for two hours before a friend and I just decided to leave on foot. Our night began and a lot of different and interesting things happened to us on the way back to my apartment. The next day I learned that those two other guys sat in front of that game console for another 4 hours minimum.
I see both sides, but I lean your way. And of course, I'm not any good at video games and my lack of interest in them doesn't make me any better. Therefore that does not allow me to play them for any amount of time and discourages any desire to do so.

What Hoblit said. I am not good at video games, I have no desire to get any better, and the whole time I am playing any video game, I'm thinking "Why does my character have to do all this crap? What is the point? What if I just don't do whatever it is I'm supposed to be doing?"
Other people can do what they want, though.

I have little use for video games, apart from old-school arcade games. Besides, aren't there forums for these people? If there aren't, there should be. </snide>

Not everyone who plays casually is obsessed. I'd say posting about video games is about as useful as posting about movies. Both are an incredible waste of time, but they provide enjoyment to different groups of people.

Touché. But actually I Admin the site and make money, so I'd consider it productive.Märk wrote:This coming from the guy who hangs out on a Mustang forum.
By the way, if it's not obvious, I am just goofing around with the gamers. I had just read a couple of the threads in this new section and thought, wtf!

But, to each his own, and all that happy stuff. I like cars, gamers like games, Mark likes to masturbate constantly. It's a crazy world.

Re: Are you f**king kidding me?
I like Age of Empires II. But it's not just a game, its edukashunal too. Apart from that, I've never really played any video games - at least not since Space Invaders and Galaga in the 1980s. No - I did try SimCity a few years ago - that was alright, but because I'm an engineer, I can call that work rather than a game. Is AutoCAD a video game? If you use it to draw dicks and balls on construction drawings - it's like a game. SimLife was pretty dumb - but I thought it was funny watching the little people go to the toilet (though there are Japanese websites where you can see that too, and in far greater detail)Billy's Little Trip wrote:Touché. But generally, I agree with BLT - gamers are generally complete losers (though nowhere near as big as losers that hang around internet boards talking about cars). I've got no problems with constant masturbation. Perhaps we could get together and play on line one day Mark. My screen name is Jergoth the Dwarfslayer

That's funny Hobz, when I read that yesterday, the first thing that came to mind was the classic old stripper theme music with a trombone. But I'd never have thought to use a word like "bawdy".

If anyone is planning a vacation to hell in the next day or two, you might want to bring a jacket.
Yep, I wasted hours today playing Rock Band. My computer is in repair mode and my recording stuff can't be used, so I showed the boys wuz up! It's fun..............that's right, I said it, it's fun.....ya wuna fight about it? I do better on drums and vocals than guitar or bass. Go figure.
My older son, his gf and their friend are REALLY good. I guess they are going to join a league.

Re: Are you f**king kidding me?
I invariably find myself offended when people declare one form of entertainment/art or another to be, in their view, completely worthless.
Of all things there are in the world to judge people about I guess that's a pretty safe one, but it strikes me as an ugly act. Whenever I come across such behavior, and whenever I perpetrate it myself (I ain't a saint), it seems immature, defensive, cruel, and insecure.
Yes, it's cruel to denigrate something that someone else loves, when their love of that thing harms you in absolutely no way. Feel free to express the various ways it really does harm you, and I will proceed to judge you some more.
Are you prepared to be the oppressive, ignorant townsfolk who wouldn't let the kids enter the samba competition?
I like videogames. They entertain me in various ways. There are puzzles in them, there is action in them, there are stories in them, there is technology and fantasy and science fiction in them. I like that stuff. It appeals to me like a Jim Butcher novel appeals to me, like Wall*E appeals to me, like Georgia O'Keeffe appeals to me, like volleyball and badminton and bowling appeal to me, like air hockey appeals to me, like a crossword puzzle appeals to me, like pictionary appeals to me, like karaoke appeals to me, and on and on and on, and if you can't be bothered to try to understand that, even if you don't share it, then a conversation between us on this topic is going to be frustrating and pointless.

Re: Are you f**king kidding me?
Personally, I'm all for people doing things that make them happy. Also, I like my freedom of opinion and speech and give others opinions and freedoms the same respect that I'd like.
As far as video games go, I'm impressed with the graphics, the depth, the music, the technology, etc.
The thing that I will never change my opinion on, is how unproductive it is and the amount of time people spend playing them. Sitting in a chair and playing 15 hours a day. Not everyone has that addiction, but it seems to be effecting the youth of America in epidemic proportions.
As I said, I liked playing Rock Band today, mainly because I was playing it with the family as a team. I would definitely consider it as quality time.
