September the 4th in the year 2k+8

Post by Billy's Little Trip »

I was just looking through some of our vacation pics and was reminded of something nice my friend did for me that really made my day. We were supposed to leave for the river on Friday night, but we had to wait until Sunday morning due to circumstances. We always get group room rates when we can because the more in the group, the cheaper the rooms. We take turns on who reserves them and puts them on their card, leaves the keys at the desk under your name, then the others pay him/her back. They all went to a lake about a half hour away on Sunday, (Cotton Wood Cove) and they wouldn't be back until late that day. So when we got to our room, there were chocolate covered strawberries on the table, and a note that said, kick back on the deck and look at the river, have a strawberry and get your drink on, we'll be back to party this evening....PS, I left you something in the mini fridge. Notice that I'd already tapped the Bacardi a bit before deciding to take the pic. :P

Question of the Day: What was the last little thing a friend or family member did for you that really made your day?

My buddy Marvin brought a keg of good beer (Maritime double-hopped IPA) to our anniversary party a couple of weeks ago. That was particularly excellent because my wife had bought the beer for the party - a couple of mixed cases of henry swineharts and a mixed case of sam adams. Now I've not got anything against sam, but when they put together those mixed cases, they include stuff like cherry wheat and sam adams light. WTF? Still have most of that shit left.

Work is continuing to drain my will to live--but it's a better day than usual I guess--at least I'm getting stuff done.

QotD: Hmm.... I had a good friend call me up about 3 weeks ago and said he had gotten two free tickets to the Jaguars football game (Jacksonville's Football Stadium is about 25 minutes away). They were playing my team, the Dolphins, and he said I was the first one he thought of when he heard who the Jags were playing. I felt really good that day... heck, for the week up to the game. (And after the game--Dolphins beat the crap out of the Jags!)

My ladyfriend (I can't help saying that, it's my dad's fault) had a picture framed for me that I kept saying I would, and didn't. It's actually a lithograph by a somewhat famous artist, and had fallen and broken its original frame so it needed to be taken care of. Not cheap, but a greatly appreciated gesture. I guess instead of kicking me in the ass, she just took the lead.

blt: Coors Light is a favor?

qotd: After seeing a late-night showing of The Dark Knight with my friends Mark and Pat, the buses were running spottily at best, and Mark and I didn't have transportation home and Pat only had his bike, so Pat rode home and rented a Zipcar and picked us up and took us home. That was pretty awesome of him.

drc: I don't remember doing anything even remotely work-related today. We're still in planning for our next project so I'm just messing around with random things on the side. Hooray.

Yes, because he knows I like Coors Light. He also knows that I like Tecate as my evening "on vacation beer", (behind the Coors) and Bacardi Rum. Plus my wife likes apple juice and water. He even had a fruit basket with about a half dozen limes, (as well as other fruits, nuts, cheese and crackers), so I'd have a twist for my rum and coke and Tecate. I think I'll keep him.

The Tecate at least partially redeems you, I guess. In Mexico (well, Juarez anyway), they serve Tecate margarita-style, rubbing the edge of the glass with lime and dipping it in salt before pouring the beer into the glass, and then serving it with a slice of lime. It improves it immensely.

Tecate is a very strong beer, and best served with lime and salt, much like tequila. By itself I don't care for it, but with salt and lime, it's like magic. I love it.
Little glass rim wetting trick: Roll your lime as you normally would, but cut a smile into the side of the lime about the curve of the glass. Press the smile cut down on the rim of the glass, squeeze and run it around the rim. Then stomp the rim around in a plate of salt as you do with a margarita glass.

But there is a reason why Tecate in a can is great. Pop the can, squeeze a lime on top, shake salt on top. Quick, portable, unsanitary. Yippeee! That's how I do it. pssst, I do rinse the top of the can if it's dirty. Don't tell my friends, they'll think I'm A gay....shhhhhhh :P

Yeah. Tecate was my first beer that I drank in college before I got a taste for actual beer.

Yep, I love my dogs. Luckily my wife is a dog groomer, so they are all well taken care of. We also do dog foster care like King Arthur, so they love it here until they get placed in a loving home.

People who take good care of pets always amaze and inspire me. I wouldn't be able to take care of a dog - I'm too selfish with my time. Cats are cool, but I have ... sniff ... allergies. My sister's allergic to rabbits, so when you narrow it down, it's obvious why my family owns guinea pigs and nothing else. That's about as much responsibility I can handle when it comes to pets.

It's called guinea pigs food. But yeah, if you buy your food from a company with slow turn over, the pellets could be lacking in vC because it has a short shelf life. We get these little guinea pigs cheweez shaped like carrots, oranges, and other shapes that they don't give a shit about, but they love'um. They come vacuum sealed with a use by date on the package. It's a guinea pigs treat high in vC and other nutrients. But their favorite thing to eat is kale and spinach, which I grow. Surprisingly, they don't like oranges and carrots as much as the green leafy stuff. They also love to just graze in my yard.
