Complain about your schedule. Apparently people like that sort of thing.

Last month, these local bands. A pleasant fiasco.

Paper Brain was a no-show.

New Century Schoolbook was very... well, Songfightian (in that quirky, a little insecure, way that seems to becoming more prevalent in the upcoming alt-pop out there... that's not a dig or a dismissal, it's the world that's starting to sound more and more like Songfight to me).

Chris Newman Experiment The trio's last show, and the drummer and bass player flaked. Chris' bass player from a band he's putting together was there, and they found a drummer to sit in completely cold (New Century Schoolbook was kind enough to loan equipment) and put on a helluva show.

Andrew's story wins, though. That's wild, man.

I saw an Elton John tribute band last night. They're called Yellow Brick Road, and y'know, they were pretty good.

My parents were in town for the weekend, so I haven't logged onto SF in days! Woo

The last concert I saw was David Byrne, for the tour of musics that he did with Brian Eno. Roy was going to try to go, but he had to work so my wife went with me. It was at an opera house, and that was pretty cool. The music was great, one song from My Life in the Bush of Ghosts and almost-alternating new album songs and old Talking Heads stuff. Loved it! He's still touring the US so many of you could probably catch him, the Baltimore show was only the second one.
Oh, and the dancers were a lot of fun too. Odd.

I don't know how I missed this thread. Thanks Jack! Ghost Town Gridlock had a blast that night!

The last concert I went to (read, national act as opposed to local acts) was Against Me! just a few weeks ago when they played down in St. Petersburg @ Janus Landing.

It was freakin' great! I loved it. The sound was perfect and I could not believe that they could sustain that amount of energy for as long as they did. They rarely talked in between songs and just brought the punk rock song after song. They did the whole encore thing which was probably their only break during the whole show. They of course did several tracks of their latest national release but they didn't by any means ignore their old song repertoire. They blasted out all the songs that made them great in the first place. In one of the rare times they did speak in between songs to thank the other bands, their singer mentioned that it was an honor form them to play on a stage that he used to come down from Gainsville to visit to see some of his favorite bands perform.

I was able to see the whole show as a couple of people exited a park bench. I climbed up in their place and was able to see the whole show from about 25 feet without any visual obstruction.

Hey Hoblit, I get the Against Me updates on myspace and I really like them. They're finally playing near me at The Wiltern in Los Angeles tonight, but it's f**king Tuesday! hey're supposed to be hitting the OC early 09, so I'll see when they come to town, even if it is a weekday.

Yeah, I lucked out royally when they came on a Friday night! I would have seen them on a Tuesday though if it had been the case. Also, with you being their Myspace friend I'm inclined to believe that you know about the new solo album being released by the lead singer. I'm pretty stoked about that. I have a feeling that it'll probably have some acoustic tunes similar to some of their earlier recordings. I don't *KNOW* that, I'm just speculating.

Yep, I'm looking forward to hearing it. Tom Gabel - Heart Burn. I wonder how the band feels about that?

Heart Burn(S) , plural. And I've just downloaded it. (I love the internet) want it? (The first song IS acoustic)

I doubt that the band would put up much of a stink about it. Its probably full of songs that he introduced to the band that they didn't all agree on or what not and dropped. Again, that's just a guess.

uploading it just in case you encounter further problems.

He played Cowards Sing At Night as part of the encore. It was weird THEN but NOW I get it. We had no idea what that song was but now I realize its one of HIS from this record.

Ok, gave them all the quick skim. Political in nature it seems. I'll load the lyrics and give them a good listen. Thanks, Chris.
