Holiday Melodies..

Post by thehipcola »

Alright doOds and doOdettes,

I love Christmas music. I remember seeing a thread a ways back where some of you were slaggin' tunes o' the yule, but I really love the sounds of the holidays. So, For the past few years I have tried to jump into the spirit early and get one of my favourite carols re-arranged and recorded as a gift for family and friends.

This thread will be like a Big Hxaro Christmas Shout Out. Think of it as the HaveAPenny/LeaveAPenny, NeedAPenny/TakeAPenny dish for Christmas cheer.

SO, If any of you have some Christmas gems tucked away somewhere, bust 'em out here for all to enjoy! :) ( I know some of you do...)

With that in mind, TheHipCola says, "Happy Holidays Everyone!"

Happiest holidays to everyone! Thanks to vanilla ike, who recorded a fun jewsharp track for Go Tell It On The Mountain a day too late. I'll repost it with the track mixed in when I have time.

I was going to put these on somesongs (my first submission there), but the registration email still hasn't come to me, so I can't submit yet. This thread will do nicely, though.

This album is a Chistmas present to family members who chipped in to get me an M-Audio OmniStudio and Adobe Audition last year; some proof that it's an improvement over my 1985 Tascam 4-track. Since several folks here helped my wife pick it out, this goes out to you guys, too. Thanks so much to everyone here for the support, the motivation, and the spirit. SongFight!

I'm so happy that the Hipmeister started this thread. Maybe it'll get my procrastanatory ass up to finish my Little Drummer Boy. When it's done (which should be today) I'll get him to host it on the redcar site and set the link here and maybe an excerpt of the Christmas radio play I recorded for an actor recently. Happy Holidays all and thanks for all the great music this last year and thanks to the moderators for hosting the coolest thing in the whole world. Your time is more present than I've ever had. *sniff*

Oh by the way Jim, I love the jazzy piano rendition of We Three Kings. 8)

If there is enough interest (and space on songhole), I can temporarily upload the Glenn and Rachael Christmas CD from a few years ago. It was done on 4-track, it's not terrific, but it was pretty good. We sent copies out to friends and family. I want to say that this was done in 2000.

ROCK!

Cow Exchange stuff from last year:
Randall the Shiznit Rapper - Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer parody, featuring some desperate wannabe rapping.
Pancakes Are The Cool - Because pancakes are what Christmas is all about. And the Santa/Rudolph/Frosty/tree/snow/lights/fire motif is getting old. A quick one-off original.

And even earlier:
Gettin Jingly With It - Jingle Bells, where "jingle bells" are the words used.
Trees Are Green - O Christmas Tree, with slightly more words.
Deck The Halls With Puke And Vomit - A gross way to celebrate. Good for those with the flu. Ren+Stimpy-ish at parts.
Under The Snow - Original instrumental.
Silent Night (instrumental) - Orchestral approach. Maybe similar to a Manheim Steamroller thing. A little distorted.

Enjoy!

Can I just say that all you cats delving into the yuletide tunes are awesome. Haven't heard yours yet Bill, but Hostess your renditions are wonderful. Would you have any objections to me DLing these carols to play for some of my family and friends at Christmas time? For that matter anyone submitting to this thread. If you are not comfortable with that I totally understand. I love your rendition of Away in a Manger and Jingle Bells is..... well rockin!!!! Cool man cool!!!

Oh, here's another thing, a Tapegerm compatriot of mine has a group called the Hot Buttered Elves:
Tapehiss Recordings
He's streaming Elf radio right now.
Pretty weird stuff, and good.

I should explain this. To download the songs on the <a href="http://glenncase.songhole.org/content/s ... >christmas album, you need to.

1. Click on the picture with the song titles.
2. Click on the song titles of the bigger picture.

Brad made the download page for me, because he is awesome like that.

EDIT: Now that Spud has told me how a m3u file works, I am going to have a blast with that! Here is the album in one convenient playlist if you don't want to see the fancy old-school artwork.

ROCK!
