in. email sent at 11:57pm. very last minute and i'm not really sure i know how the melody is supposed to go, but whatever. last time we were told we were too simplistic. this time there are over a dozen chords and lyrics containing references to the physics of angular travel, quantum mechanics, trig, and german idioms which are all metaphors for a fight with a girlfriend, all in the key of E minor. i doubt many will enjoy this, but it was kind of fun to write such off the wall lyrics.

Here are my reviews and rankings as if I were judging this thing, which I'm glad I'm not as there are some tough calls. If anyone is upset or angered by something I've said about your song than please tell me, so I can privately smile in the knowledge I rattled the cage of my competitors. Ha ha ha! Nur Ein! Schadenfreude!
17. Frankie Big Face – Another bold move and an expertly executed about face from your last entry, neat! What’s up with your song and ours having Oom-pah? Well, anyway, I really like this. Great story and I love the way it unfolds. The whole song takes you on this delightful, bizarre and at times touching journey about two odd strangers, their separate, broken worlds and how their unchecked emotions lead to true Schadenfreude. Musically it’s as amusing and fascinating as it is lyrically. Awesome.
16. Paco Del Stinko – As strange and energetic as any of the great Del Stinko, I love the beginning and end parts, the moody singing guitar in the background and unsettling vocals, and then the sudden powerful change at 0:48. These are some truly fucked lyrics too. This is like the darkest day in songfight history, so much death and pain and abuse and suffering and narcissism, whoa. Hey man, it seems like your always arguing with yourself, this wasn’t much of a challenge for you, was it? Anyways, I really like this song, its fun to listen to.
15. Jon Eric – When you sing the title it has a natural delivery, and it sounds great. Your entries are getting better and better. This is fun and twisted. We are definitely getting the dark side of everyone’s imagination this week. Ha ha, love the odd turn right at 1:47 and the way the accordion bursts out of nowhere just as the song starts fading out. Yeah, this is a lot of fun, a really entertaining listen. Arranged and recorded really well too.
14. Tex Beaumont & The Dirty Hearts – I was looking forward to the Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny interchange samples and how you’d use them and I was not disappointed. Song has a great attitude and the sound is very full and catchy. I don’t know though, the main vox seems to stick out oddly, does not quite fit in the mix of everything else, which flows very well. Overall fun and entertaining, as I expected from Mr. & The Dirty Hearts.
13. Adam Adamant – Love the way this one opens, and that it’s in German and that you’ve effectively used samples to tell your story. Nice instrumentation too, stripped down and gritty but still very pretty. Everything past the two-minute mark seems a bit like a retread, this song could’ve benefited from the economy you’ve exhibited in your previous 2 entries, but overall I like this a lot, good idea, great vibe.
12. Nouveau Pavre – Great vocal performance, I love the sparse moodiness and the spooky wah wah in the background. Song has a really cool and effective atmosphere. Feels like half a song though, right when it really gets going it just ends instead. It’s still one of my favorite songs this round, better to want more of something I like listening to than have too much of something I’m already done listening to. I think this’ll probably get you on to round three so when it does, start early!
11. Student Band – Immediately a more enjoyable and satisfying entry than last weeks, the big heavy change up makes it even more so. I think the vocals could’ve used a better and more expressive take, or maybe try doubling them up. Hey, you also drift away from the mic from time to time, don’t do that. Handclaps too loud. The return to the gentle lounge feel flows really well, and the organ sounds nice but solo starts to wander. This is an entertaining song, I like it.
10. Andrew Reist – Sounds rather similar to your last entry, which I suspect won’t help with the judges. Not as sound a vocal performance either, you hit some awkward notes here and there. I like the change that comes in at 1:22, definitely gives the song some big extra punch right where it needs it. Yeah your second half is much more effective than the first, good stuff.
9. Ross Durand – Arranged and recorded really well, but doesn’t quite grab me as your stuff often does. First half of this song seems to drag and lyrically it’s a little busy and awkward (heh, who am I to say this?!) Then the second half has a better flow to it and continues to deliver some effective changes and surprises, but ultimately I’m just not moved by it.
8. Swilington – You also nailed a natural delivery of our hard to sing German title. Uh oh, everything I like about this song melts away and gets jumbled and harsh. Yes you redeem yourself coming back into it, but that was loud and sloppy and didn’t fit. Man so much about this song is really cool, why you poop all over it with sudden jarring grooveless shouting? Eh, it’s a shame, and the song starts to wander aimlessly too. No need for all that, the songs best elements shouldn’t be competing with schizo sloppiness. The song is also too long, both its big issues could’ve been solved by condensing it and would’ve resulted in a much more solid entry.
7. Todd McHatton – You already said this one got away from you and I can’t agree more, you should have shown more discipline and reeled it in a bit, a lot actually. The lyrics have an unintelligible element, which I don’t dislike; the effects are quite nice actually, but it makes the length a hindrance. I’m not clinging on your words wanting to know where the story is going, so the extra length is really just more and more of the same song. I like the vibe of this song, the instrumentation, the attitude, the way it feels, it’s good stuff, but it ends at least a minute and a half too late.
6. Howl Down the Chimney – Much as I like this when it first starts out it loses me pretty quickly. For me to hang with this redundancy I need at least a story to hold onto, but the not so intelligible lyrics make that difficult. I like the musical outtro but overall this entry is a bit forgettable.

Ok, so since the song is a little funny and tongue in cheek, with elements in it I like such as the background yeah-yeahs, and the upbeat tempo, why are the vocals so harsh? I think a smile in your voice and a playful quality in your delivery would’ve gone a long way, but here sometimes yelling, it gets clumsy, and it's not too easy on the ears. Too long, and also, what’s the argument here?
4. Test Week Hiatus – Starts out with promise but doesn’t go much of anywhere from there. Yeah, I don’t know what to say, does not grab my attention.

Has some fun moments at the start and more so at 1:21, but not enough to redeem the song, I did not enjoy listening to this.

It's an argument that the singer is having with himself. "I know I should feel guilty" and the start with what Jesus teaches is the debate. I took a chance and hoped that the judges would agree that it qualified.

Thanks - I feel as though the bridge in this one was a lyrical victory for me - I usually can't convey an image properly to the audience, but I feel as though this one came across more fluidly (albeit a little literal).
