Blue gave away a prize for a sidefight before he started doing Gearfights. HINT: The prize wasn't actually gear.

drumheads for john M I think.

I think this was the "week without ears" fight. Blue gave $10 per song entered or something.

IIRC, "Week Without Ears" was something like Gearfight IV or Gearfight V. I haven't been around long enough to know what came earlier than that.

Yep. But before there was Gearfight, Blue bucked tradition by giving away a pack of Jones Soda. I just wish I could remember what the prize was for...

Oh well.

A cookie for fluffy!

Speaking of Bortwein, there was a period in 2004-2005 when it seemed like the guy had cover art every single week!

What was Bortwein's first Songfight cover art?

The art archive says it's "A Promise Is A Promise," but the art archive is also very sloppy with the older content so that is probably wrong.

The earliest fight in the archive with his art is "I Can See You" but he made that retroactively.

I think it might be Foam Rubber.

I had no idea. Is the same true of the cover art for "Video Night," then?
fluffy wrote:I think it might be Foam Rubber.
Well, if "I Can See You" and "Video Night" were done retroactively, then you've hit the right answer! Congratulations, and enjoy your cookie!

What was the single longest song ever submitted to Songfight?

According to iTunes, "It Never Happened" by The Sober Irishman. But people in the discussion thread don't mention it so that could be a case of broken VBR, which means it's probably "Moscow, Idaho" by Lucid Tear which I remember being like 27 minutes of rambly bullshit.

Ah, right. For some reason that's not in my iTunes database. 2 hours of Eigenradio.

Haha, iTunes actually refuses to add it, probably because it's so long.

Niveous gets the cookie. *shudder* Man, I'm glad that guy's gone.

Next Question:
Songfight has been lucky enough to feature cover art by a number of renowned webcomic artists. Whose fault was this? (The answer is not Gabe.)

I'd guess Glenn Case, just because everything seems to be his fault. Also he knows famous people.

Ah, the real names of "Tycho" and "Gabe."

Tycho doesn't draw, and Gabe is not the correct answer.

Neither is Glenn Case. Keep trying.

A cookie for fluffy! Though the impression that I got at the time was that Sober actually asked Gabe to do the cover art, and this is what Gabe turned in; a close inspection of the art would seem to corroborate fluffy's hypothesis.

Next question:
If you're familiar with Penny Arcade, you know that Gabe does the art, and Tycho does the scripts. Tycho, being artistically challenged, never made any cover art, but he did participate in Songfight a couple of times. How, and under what name?

Tycho has been a special guest star on Frontalittle Squad songs like Jalopy & Saving Throw.

I know he was in a couple of The Frontalittle Squad entries.

I also had a feeling he was part of Emergency Pizza Party.

You'd have to consult EPP to confirm that, because I have no idea. I do know that he was in the Frontalittle Squad for the two songs that Niv mentioned.

He debuted with "Jalopy," and at first entertained some notion of relative anonymity. He apparently gave up on that, introducing himself as Tycho in "Saving Throw."
Who knows what rapper name he used for "Jalopy?"
