Not sure if this is right - it may be my faulty memory, but...

Who christened Jon Eric - "Generic"?

That would have been my guess too, but I don't know either.

Nah, I think he actually would have done that one. Since nobody seems to care to take a guess, it was "opera". And as I said, I actually wrote a song (for the title "Vergessen Sie Nicht Bitte um Mein Haus am Mittwoch Kommen"). I've just never been adventurous enough to try recording it.

That was them alright.

Eric: What does the title of your opera song mean translated into English?

By all means. Guess away, space cadets.

That's a rather bad translation, actually. Here is a better one: "Don't Forget Please to Come My House on Wednesday". Quite it doesn't the convey scrambledness carries it actually, it's a but good start.

CR and I had a private message chat about this... I'm pretty sure it was Blue Lang.

I picked up some great factoids in Spokane, so time to share. :)

I remembered it being someone from downwithgenger - I thought I remembered a particularly nasty review, after which Jon Eric became Generic. That must have been a later, non-original coining. Or a brain-explosion Ever since the Trafalmadorians probed me and inserted a transmitter, I have had occaisional black-outs

I agree, Denyer, I was thinking the same thing when I read that.
Actually - I remember downwithgender coming along, and also Caravan Ray coming along, but to the best of my knowledge Generic has always been Generic so long as I've known him.

I do recall resisting it for a while, but by the time the IRC room came around (the first time, anyway), I was definitely over it, because "Generic" was the first thing I thought of for my username. That was way before the dwg nonsense. I was trying to decide between Jack Shite and Blue Lang, but I'm pretty sure it was Blue.

If we wanna talk really obscure Jon Eric trivia...
The week of my first entry, "So Aggravating," Blue Lang did his reviews in the form of awards for each song ("Best guy'n'guitar," "Best nice try," etc.)
His review of my song was "Best ________ cover." Fill in the blank.

A better guess, I suppose, considering the lyrics I stole, but still wrong.

The answer mystified me, to be sure.

Okay, it's been a week.

The answer is Ross Durand.

Neat, huh?

"Best Beatles cover."

Not sure why he thought that; maybe because it sounded vaguely like "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da"?
