Dry Spell

Post by jeff robertson »

I'm going through a dry spell
let me tell you my tale.
ain't no water comin out of my well
and my crops are gonna fail.

My wife and kids are starvin'
no this land won't feed 'em now
dust storms on the horizon
guess it's time for movin' out

See the river levels droppin
and you know it can't be good
hear the fish in the shallows floppin'
smell 'em rotting in the mud

This ain't no freak of nature
this ain't no act of god
other men done stole my water
other men have done me wrong

Dry Spell
Elly Lane and the Janglin' Jims

Walkin' down the street shufflin' my feet
Don't really know where I've been
Walkin' down the street shufflin' my feet
Don't really know where I'm goin'
Caught a glimpse of you across the avenue
Through the traffic and the passers-by
Caught a glimpse of you across the avenue
You didn't notice my heavy sigh

It's been such a long time
Since I seen you
It's been such a long time

It's a desert here, a drought of love this year
Your smile: oasis on the dunes
It's a desert here, a drought of love this year
Do you remember our lovely tune?
Your rains've stayed away, yeah it's been a spell
Come and water my arid soul
Your rains've stayed away, yeah it's been a spell
Come and make my spirit whole

It's been such a long time
Since I seen you
It's been such a long time

This dull song has gone on too long
Come and pick up your baton
And lead me
Memories you unlock: I am your flock
This vice you can't knock
Believe me

It's been such a long time
Since I seen you
It's been such a long time

*_*_*_*_*_*_*

I remember a few of us posting our scratch sheets in this forum waaaaaaaay back. I always thought it was fascinating to see how folks worked. So, in the spirit of those ol' days of '05:

Dry Spell
Pathetic Wannabees (c)2009

[intro]
I'm all out of phrases
nothin' much phases
Run out of stories to tell
No reason to stay
if you've nothin' to say
could be a permanent dry spell...

Get back on the horse!
Don't bunch your shorts!
Screw the course!
Disorder the court!

[chorus]
It's a dry heat in Hell
It's a hard case sell
It lands where it fell
Don't put it on me - Dry Spell!

Been a couch-loafer!
a no-hoper!
Red Rover
Send a do-over!

[chorus]
It's a dry heat in Hell
It's a hard case sell
It lands where it fell
Don't put it on me - Dry Spell!

I'll crawl back
A new tack
Take no flack
That's right, Jack!

[chorus]
It's a dry heat in Hell
It's a hard case sell
It lands where it fell
Don't put it on me - Dry Spell!

Don't put it on me - Dry Spell!

Dry Spell by Jan Krüger

Thirst, it's the worst
Thing we've got these days
Clouds not been seen
Crowds not so keen
Body heat sets me ablaze

There's a dry spell on the land
There's nothing left but sand
I think if I stay outside I will fry
No sweat, no tears, no oil
Dry veins, dry years, dry soil
The less we do, the sooner we will die

Our past got us here
Caught up to us this year [so many things gone wrong]
Perhaps we were too rash
Life has turned to ash [the days so very long]

There's a dry spell on the land
There's nothing left but sand
I think if I stay here my brain will fry
No plants, no flies, no rain
Dry moors, dry skies, dry pain
The less we do, the sooner we can't try

A solution has appeared
We have volunteered
Others who will help the rest survive
At least fifty percent
Of body mass present
The solution that will keep us all alive [or at least most of us]

Now there's water all around
That we're lucky to have found
It's all thanks to those who gave their lives for all
They may not have agreed
But wise men took the lead
And did proceed and freed us from our fall
Praise be to them for making us stand tall
Perhaps we can fix mistakes after all

my friends just want me to feel better
and i understand
you just want me to feel better
so you hold my hand
but i'm always walking around
a cold, winter town

the sun just wants me to feel better
so it shines so bright
the moon just wants me to feel better
so it fills the night
but i'm always walking around
a cold, winter town

it's a personal hell
it's a dry spell
it's a free man
it's a shaken hand

mary just wants me to feel better
so she drives me away
kim just wants me to feel better
so she sings just to say
you're always walking around
a cold, winter town

it's a personal hell
it's a dry spell
it's a free man
it's a shaken hand

and i miss you
Gimmie one good reason not to do it.
(because I love you)

Dry Spell

It’s not a dry spell if you’ve never been laid, that’s inexperience
You gotta rectify that, subconsciously, in the meantime, just listen to me
Buy some condoms
Get a date
Grab a dinner and a movie
Take a walk in the night with some drinks on the side
And “oh, no, I don’t think I could drive home”

And let the wet spot break the dry spell
Let the wet spot break the dry spell
Let the wet spot break the dry spell
Welcome to a higher plane

And if you get that far and don’t know what I mean, then you’re an idiot
Just take your urges by the hand, forget about being eternally dammed
Buy some condoms
Get a date
Grab a dinner and a movie
Take a walk in the night with some drinks on the side
And “oh, no, I don’t think I could drive home”

And let the wet spot break the dry spell
Let the wet spot break the dry spell
Let the wet spot break the dry spell
Let the wet spot break the dry spell
Welcome to a higher plane

And if you get this far and still don’t know what I mean, then you’re beyond me

There's a dry spell hanging over my head
And I miss the rain, I miss the rain
There's a dry spell hanging over my head
And I miss the rain, I miss those rainy...

...days inside with the curtains drawn
The TVs on but we both know that theres nothing on
So we sit here silent and still
Glaring at each other and we've both got that urge to kill
We start to shout and it gets a little crazy
Fighting about nothing it's all a little hazy
Suddenly the sun starts shining
The clouds are gone along with my silver lining

There's a dry spell hanging over my head
And I miss the rain, I miss the rain
There's a dry spell hanging over my head
And I miss the rain, I miss the way...

...our roads divided and we lost ourselves
Stuck in our little bubble and there's no one there to let us out
The bubble bursts snap into the real world
Landed with a bump and it's straight back to what we know
Screaming, fighting, tearing at each others souls
Back to dragging ourselves down, staring out the window sills
Suddenly the sun starts shining
The clouds are gone along with my silver lining

There's a dry spell hanging over my head
And I miss the rain, I miss the rain
There's a dry spell hanging over my head
And I miss the rain, I miss the rain

There's a rain cloud hanging over my head
It's back again, it's back again
There's a rain cloud hanging over my head
It's back again, here comes the pain

Hell It’s Been A Dry Spell

There are kids round here who don’t know what rain is
Toddlers gathering a bank of words
You read a book about puddles and gumboots
And they stare at you cos it just seems absurd
A fantasy land they don’t understand

Hell it’s been a dry spell

There are kids round here who think the sky’s falling
Toddlers screaming about the unknown
You reach out and hug them and tell them it’s raining
And they stare at you strangely and don’t want to be shown
A nightmare land they don’t understand

Hell it’s been a dry spell
Dry-y….
Spell [spell, spell]
Hell

[INSTR]

There are kids round here learning to love rain
Toddlers hoping the wet will soon come again
You run out and dance with them and kick in the puddles
And they stare at you strangely then jump right on in
A fickle land they’ll soon understand

Hell it’s been a dry spell

Something will turn up
It's just a matter of time
Days bleed together
As I look out through my blinds

Curse this dry
Spell
Curse this dry

One day we woke up
Famished and feeling confined
We left to find ourselves
But there was nothing to find

Curse this dry
Spell
Curse this dry

The sun bleached all the colors away

Dry Spell (capo @ 3rd when tuned down 1/2 step)
by Wages

VERSE 1 (C-E-A#-G)
come on too strong, but seem too weak
I never know what I should be
for the people; I am the pleaser
there is never full disclosure

C-A, F-E-A (all x2)
fifty times the poet writes
fifty times he can not find
so many shots should not fail
but fifty times; a dry spell

VERSE 2 (C-E-A#-G)
I am waiting, just to hear
a clap or two to free the fear
no one but no one makes a sound
except the poet in the ground

fifty times to sing his praise
fifty times could never raise
the dead are dead and oh so pale
all of this, from a dry spell

BRIDGE (Bar Chords A7-G7slide-F7)
forget about all the opinions
forget about obligations
forget about flighty goals
and everything else I know

OUTRO
fifty times the poet wrote
fifty times he cut his throat
looking forward, he will tell
come to end, my dry spell

Numero Quartro in Rone's quest to the record.

In the dark age
A mighty dragon's fire
Destroyed our mighty kingdom
Destoryed our lives

With my new dry spell I
Will extingish him and
I will be our savior then
Everyone will be safe again

On the week before
He landed on my house
His weight crushed the wooden roof
Crushed my hard work

With my new dry spell I
Will extingish him and
I will be our savior then
Everyone will be safe again

Yesterday morning
The beast ate my last born
Gobbled his very being
Gobbled my soul with it

With my new dry spell I
Will extingish him and
I will be our savior then
Everyone will be safe again

Today I shall
Vanquish the mighty lizard
With my new found training
I will be victorious

With my new dry spell I
Will extingish him and
I will be our savior then
Everyone will be safe again
From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style. :D

Dry Spell by Future Boy

I'm in the middle of a dry spell
and I decided that I'd tell you all about it.
Though you've got every reason to doubt it,
I'm sayin' it's the truth.

I've gone on so many blind dates
and now I find that I wasted every minute.
My heart will no longer be in it.
What do you need for proof?

You don't understand
that you're not like the girls
that I've met in the past few weeks.
And you're ruining my game
cuz now they all seem the same to me.

You got me crushing like a school boy.
It may be foolish to destroy my little book of numbers,
but you leave me with a feeling of wonder
with everything you do.

My heart is waiting for the rainfall.
Am I insane to think that you could be my one and only?
This is prob'ly the first time I've ever felt lonely...

Can't you see, life isn't always the way you want it to be
You'll take some hits, that's something you can guarantee
Don't you see, that when the rain falls it's gonna fall on me
But right now, least we can just be happy

Don't you worry everything will be well
Cause I think we're heading for a dry spell x2

Don't you let, these blues wash away your dreams
Your hopes, or your child like fantasies
What you see, when you lay down as you sleep
Hold on, to these as they're yours to keep

Don't you worry everything will be well
Cause I think we're heading for a dry spell x2

Dry Spell - Elaine DiMasi
too late for the fight, archive track is here
---

you can't sail away in a dry spell
you push with the pole and you just dig a hole

I love you in pieces in fragments I do
I reached out for the sparkly things my fingers went right through
the little bits of happiness are glinting in the sand
they are on the ground they were never in my hand

you can't sail away in a dry spell
you push with the pole and you just dig a hole
peel away the burdened skin turn your back on where things fell
pray at the grave then dig at the well

so as not to forget
the feel of your hand
what we did in the water
I'll do it in the sand
my tears salt the clouds
until the waves swell
I dug it at the grave
I'm praying at the well

you can't sail away in a dry spell
you push with the pole and you just dig a hole
peel away the burdened skin turn your back on where things fell
I dug it at the grave now I'm praying at the well
I dug it at the grave now I'm praying at the well

Dry Spell - Paco del Stinko

Mushrooms on the lawn, as we repeat the yawn
Watercolor sky, feeling like we'll all die
The heavens opened up, gave more than enough
We've never had so much, never had it so rough

Shall we all dance, join a unified trance
Beat the war drum, until it is all done
We all gather round, make a collective sound
Feet stamping the pound, on the sodden ground

We all try like hell
To bring the dry spell

Hey, at least it ain't a drought
It's better to have too much than to go without

It's so easy just to talk, but our skin looks like chalk
Roll the bones and burn incense, spill the blood of your friends

We all try like hell
To bring the dry spell

Rain rain go away
Don't come back 'til another day
Rain rain go away (far away)
Don't come back 'til another day (go away)
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

Dry Spell
by Berkeley Social Scene

Verse1

When everything evaporates
There's not a trace of condensate
Feelings never demonstrate well

Baiting an atrocity
Guilty of verbosity
Take away the mystery tell

Chorus 1

voice 1- you break me (x4 in 6/8)
voice 2- How can I be wrong
Knowing all Along
It might not Last

Voice1- You break me (x4 in 6/8)
Voice 2- We Can make it (X6 in 4/4)

Voice 2- Hold On to your mind
Your heart will comply
All in good time

Verse 2

Finding it hard to breathe
I guess you got used to me
Everything is still holding still

Never had an argument
Always had the best intent
Flexing all your management skills

Chorus 2

voice 1- please wake me (x4 in 6/8)
voice 2- How can I be wrong
I knew all Along
We might not Last

Voice1- Please wake me (x4 in 6/8)
Voice 2- We Can make it (X6 in 4/4)

Voice 2
- Hold On to your mind
Your heart will comply
All in good time

Bridge and repeated for Verse 3

Last the trekking summer
Just another suffer
see the fading numbers
douse the dying embers

Chorus 3

Voice1- You take me (x4 in 6/8)
Voice 2- We Can make it (X6 in 4/4)

Voice 2- Hold On to your mind
Your heart will comply

Dry Spell - King Arthur cover - As interpreted by Paco del Stinko

Here I am parked by the side of highway Fifty-One
Hiding in the bushes with a summer store coffee and a radar gun
Praying for some fool to come flying along, doing 79 in a 45 zone
I don't mind if you wanna make like a bat out of Hell

These are the limits - I write the tickets
Time to put an end to this dry spell

Last week the chief sent a memo to the boys in blue
The economy's bad we need to maximize our revenue
So people get busy everybody go nuts, we make the quotas and he buys the doughnuts
Tomorrow I'll be waiting just around the corner from the Taco Bell

Cos these are the limits - I write the tickets
Time to put the brakes on this dry spell

You know that every toastaleminny is drying up in these troubled times
Nobody takes chances everybody's in the unemployment line
City the County, the State and the Feds pinching every dime

Everybody speeds hardly anybody robs banks
So here I sit in my big Crown Vic with a tiger in the tank
And if you make it past me you just can't hide, I got a buddy up the road in an Electra-Glide
You got money Bud burning up here you know you might as well

These are the limits - I write the tickets
Time to put a stop to this dry spell
Time to put the brakes on this dry spell
Time to put an end to this dry spell
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

Gee, I remember when I was a kid and the grownups would complain about how "you couldn't understand the lyrics..." maybe they were right... a couple corrections:

- thermos full of coffee
- every source of revenue is drying up
- nobody's payin' taxes
- you still can't hide
- and, yeah, I did sing "in an Electra Glide" but that should've been "on" - my bad...
- money to burn, burn it up here
"...one does not write in dactylic hexameter purely by accident..." - poetic designs
