Re: When was the last time YOU entered? (pre-fight)
In for the third week in a row! Still struggling with getting a mix I'm happy with, but it gets a little bit better each week.
Haven't managed to get it together to post reviews yet, but I've been listening and voting, and maybe it'll be a small fight this week...

Re: When was the last time YOU entered? (pre-fight)
Well folks, this is my entry since the last one. Seemed appropriate. FYI I have written a couple of tunes since the last one, but didn't submit them because I wanted something a little more finished and couldn't pull it off. This time, I decided 'screw it', and here we are.
Usual excuses here.... and that's why it's just a demo.

Managed to finally pull something together last night. Time is short these days, so only keys and voice. Had ideas for a more fleshed out arrangement but no time!

We're not in. We were very very close, but I failed my part of the task. FAIL.

So that just means that you're going to record your vocals tonight and post it to the boards right? Right?Heather. Redmon. wrote:We're not in. We were very very close, but I failed my part of the task. FAIL.

Yeah, maybe I'll try again. I got really frustrated at about 2am and that was that, but maybe... I guess it's ok for it to not be a part of the "official" Songfight archive, right?

Futureboy submitting? That is exciting!
I think this fight will be going up a little late, so there might still be time for people to late submit their entries if they finish them soon...

Re: When was the last time YOU entered? (pre-fight)
I really don't think it's going to happen. I tried again last night and just couldn't do it. We got caught up in trying to make it sound "different" per glennny's suggestions - that was the culprit. I guess the answer to the "why don't the Hell Yeahs ever sound any different?" question is that I'm incapable of signing any differently. Sorry guys, but I don't think you'll ever hear our Dry Spell entry.

Yup, I'm in for my 4th in a row. Only about 2 more years worth of songs to go.
From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style.

WAAAAH, but I want my home-grown, grrrrl-power punk rock!Heather. Redmon. wrote:Sorry guys, but I don't think you'll ever hear our Dry Spell entry.
No, I understand. Sometimes you start out with a certain idea and the song just fights you. It's frustrating as all hell, but you gotta learn to let those ones go.
I think The Hell Yeahs songs sound similar because you have a style, which quite frankly is pretty awesome. However, working a given style in a given way for too long does get monotonous. What's cool is using your style to open up new ideas; the different things flow out of what you're working with naturally. Take, for instance, Nine Inch Nails: Reznor's albums flow from dark synth-pop (Pretty hate Machine) to fist-to-face rage (Broken) to cut-and-paste trip-hop political commentary (Year Zero), and many things (good and bad) in between. But every bit of it is unquestionably NIN. As short as their career was, Nirvana is much the same: Bleach is light-years from Unplugged in New York, but Cobain's fingerprints are everywhere.
So, keep up the Hell Yeahs stuff, cuz it's awesome and always fun. Just let it take you new places instead of dragging it there. A girl with an attitude and a duffel bag worth of sawn-off shot guns and non-sequential bills in the trunk can have a lot of different adventures out there...
