In, though I didn't get an auto-response. It's been a long time since I haven't gotten one, and I feel nervous without my comforting receipt.

EDIT: There's my receipt. Big Baby got his bottle!

Hello there. Brand new and my 1st songfight.

I sent in the song about 1 1/2 hours ago -- if I don't get an acknowledgement email should I be worried?

I think I'll try and listen to the current songfight tunes tomorrow, if there's still time.

Won't be in this week - I actually did get a song written, but too much other stuff (including a two-day conference on Autism featuring Temple Grandin as keynote speaker) came up. Plus I think I'm going to insist that I do reviews of a fight before I allow myself to enter another one...

Thanks to all who have done reviews of my recent stuff!

You'll all be happy to know my entry is under 5 minutes this week.

You'll all be unhappy to know that it can be described as "Irish drinking song + Backstreet Boys + Muppets".
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

I'm bailing as well. I actually invested a surprising amount of time (and a little money) into my submission, but it all went into building something I call The Freakharp:

Image

It is comprised of:
  • a main metal tube equipped with a single heavy gauge string. Servers as a fretless bass.
  • a pickup stolen from an old squire. Wired sideways for a genuinely odd tone.
  • a beat-boxing tube. This 10' coiled tube is at mouth level and mic'd on the other end. Gives anything sung into it a weird natural verb. The tube has notches and sounds like a güiro (or maybe a big zipper) when you run a pick along it.
  • a storage-box kick drum. Surprisingly usable sound!
  • a ceramic-tube woodblock
  • a crappy little metal rack, not sure what it was originally intended for. It sounds like a broken vibraslap.
  • a foot-operated wiimote fx-controller/theremin.
Anyway, I spent so long working on my "ingenious" idea (made to be played, get it?) that I kind of forgot to, you know, write the song. What I did get recorded was more weird than good, and my fretless playing is waaay to sloppy too submit. I'll probably polish it up next week.

Just rename freakharp.jpg to forkbomb_mtbp.mp3 and you'll probably win.

I wrote a song, so I sent it in. A week ago I had big plans for kitchen percussion, but I ended up with no percussion at all.

It's sad.

On the contrary, that is a mightily felicific juxtaposition!

I'm in. Hope y'all can see past my crappy recording skills. For those following along, I went with the power punk rock song but improved the lyrics and added what I think are some decent lead guitar parts. I also tried focusing on not being pitchy with the vocals, but I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing wrong. I guess we'll hear!

There is a 50% chance my song this week is incredibly annoying... in which case, I apologize in advance. :)

In honor of The Beatles Rock Band coming out, and in particular, their Revolution 9, I am sending in a deconstructed song.

Enjoy?
