I'll second JoS's "Gin or Ginseng." Holy crap, that's some good stuff. And a victim of one of SF's more egregious vote floods.

Just once I'd like to see someone list one of my songs on here.
But here's the catch... it has to be for real. No pity postings.
I'm waiting. *taps foot*

Well that's a little disingenuous - you wrote the words and I the music. Well, U2 wrote the music

Re: Deep Cuts from the Song Fight! Archive
One could quibble... I sort of wish I had the original demo I sent you, but that was three computers ago, and I doubt it survived the move. I did the lyrics and chords, and the melody, which I believe you tweaked a bit... eh, whatever, it was a collaboration.
Incidentally, for anyone who might be interested, that same week, I recorded a version of "I'm with Steve Now" which J$ wrote for me.
Very similar to the song swap I just did with Ross for the current fight. 8)
Also, Bolio, great cover. I'd never heard it before. Do you mind if I upload it to my site?

As it happens, I do still have the original demo, which is why I can be fairly sure that your memory of events is inaccurate. I remember having this conversation on the boards at the time - But in the end, no biggie, either way - I've never considered it anything but a cover version. It's all yours

Re: Deep Cuts from the Song Fight! Archive
I was pleased to notice this thread. I've been slowly working my way backwards through the archives, so I seem to stumble on great songs from the archives fairly regularly. (Well, when I'm not being distracted by listing to podiobooks, which has happened to me recently.)
I've recently listened to the "Variation on Two" songs.
I was astonished that Blind Mime Ensemble's Variation on Two (from 2003) only got 2 votes. It became an instant favorite. I liked it more than the winner that week, though the winner was still good.
It makes me really appreciate the current vote-for-many system. The winners are still winners, but for the folks that don't win... there's a big difference when searching the archive between a person getting two votes because they have two people in their band, and a person who got two votes because another song happened to be popular that week and people could only vote for one band.

Jim of Seattle - "Gin or Ginseng."
http://www.songfight.org/music/gin_or_g ... le_gog.mp3
It amazes me that this song didn't win, but Jim scored his first non-tied win a couple months later with his "ABCD Puppies," which isn't nearly as good (IMO). I love the bit after the instrumental break: "And anybody who says this is paradise is in denial." The quick switches from major to minor and back really make the song shine.

This isn't that deep a cut but I am enjoying the entry for the "501" fight by the Weakest Suit. Good stuff. Love the bridge: "I gotta eat, and the paychecks feel so good".
