Silly me. It's Tony Hightower. My bad. I kept thinking Caravan Ray because one of his requests was "Cor, Baby, that's Really Free," by John Otway - very Aussie.

For your information: the lead instrument is a VST plugin called a Syntar, FREE! Syntar.
There are two syntars in this song, playing different patches.
Funny thing is, when I first heard the song I was thinking "what the heck, all these elements" and now I've got the thing mostly memorized

Double whoops. I figured "cor" was Australian, and it sounded like an Australian accent... Oh well. So my mistake about my GoM guy was reliant on another make about the nationality of one of his requests....Caravan Ray wrote:I've never actually heard of John Otway - I had to Google him. That's not very Aussie.

A few updates today...Still waiting on several people...Lovin the songs everyone, Great Job!
TVIYH- I'm jones'in here! Not fair to tease me like this!
And HKD- I am thrilled that you liked the song, but I must confess when it comes to the guitar, I am a "recording artist" NOT a performer- It took about a million tracks and a ka-zillion takes, and then a whole lot of cutting pasting, slicing, smoke & mirrors to do this song. Sadly, you will never see me play it live.

Dear Mr. Eddiebangs,
it is a shame we will never get to see you play this live, but I dont think the fact it took many many tries and passes and things to get this is anything to hide or feel bad about. it is pure awesome. this is one of my favorite vnv songs, and after listening to it many more times, I love your cover much more than the original.
I cant dance like a monkey to it at a live show, but Im sure as fraggin hell dancin like a monkey at home.
With your permission, I may even burn it to cd and try to get it played at the local spooky peoples nightclub. Then I can dance like a monkey to it being very loud.

Oh..uh..no no no... I can't stand the thought of people listening to me... (insert sarcasm here) - Just make sure there are some hot freaky chicks dancing so I can dance like monkey with them vicariously through you.

tviyh - are you accidentally transferring the file on ftp? using ascii transfer instead of binary? that would result in the problem we've heard. i tried my old "uncook" program but it didn't get rid of the nastiness... that's pretty bad.

So far everything's been a great listen. The cover of "There Went The World" turned out way different from the original (thought it was the wrong song at first, until deeper into the lyrics), but it's definitely interesting. My ears are hurtin' from Sunday's mixfest, so I haven't been able to fully appreciate the new tunes.. but wanted to say thanks to The Landfills and everyone else who participated.
It's showing me sides of y'all that I don't think I've seen before. Very cool.

As the other Primitive Screwhead, I felt compelled to check in and say how much I loved Roymond's Primus cover.
As RG noted previously, I'm the one who made that request. I figured that a straight-up cover of that song was unlikely, so I was interested to see what kind of artistic, er, liberties would be taken in such an endeavor.
I assure you, of all the possibilities, styles and quirks I considered, I never once thought of anything resembling Ravi Shankar Claypool.
So, a big wet one goes out to everyone for their ass-kicking covers, and to Roy in particular.
Caravan Ray - really glad you enjoyed it. I'm sure RG will appreciate your Biafra comparison!

Had a listen to all the ones posted originally. No detailed reviews - just some general catagorisation:
Songs I’ve Never Heard Before, But I Like The Cover So Much I’m Prepared To Accept It As The Definitive Version:
Bolio – Handsom and Gretel
Charcoal – Sunken Treasure
Hujhax – Concertina
Eddie Bangs – Legion
Roymond – DMV
Jim Tyrrell – My Posses on Broadway
Glenn Case – Just A Friend
Rachel Layne – Summer
Starfinger – Losers
JoS – Street Carp
Landfils – There Went World
Jack Shite – Waltz You Across Texas
Songs That Have Been Long Time Favourites Of Mine But The Cover Goes In A Direction I Would Never Have Thought Of And Works Magnificently:
Abominominous - Generals and Majors
Songs Which Sound Like They Were Written For The Coverer:
(I’m) Stranded – Primitive Screwheads
Heuristics Inc – The Elements
J$ - Real Love
Cow Exchange – My Daydream
Songs That Make Me Want To Dance Like A Monkey:
Future Boy – Oh Daddy Oh
Songs Which Gave The Originals A Good Boot Up The Arse:
R Mosquito – Puppet Head
Niveous – Suspicious Minds
The Hell Yeahs – Charolette Sometimes
Wreckdom – Hit Me Baby One More Time
Gems in the Rough:
Neil Thrun - El Camino
Marcus Kellis – Haircut
There really was nothing bad here – great job from everyone so far. My favourite would be a toss-up between Abominominous and Future Boy. Jim of Seattle, Niveous, Cow Exchange, Charcoal, Bolio and Heuristics all also got me going. Really though, nothing bad here – not even close.

Dear Feldspar,
When I saw that you cover Poe, I will admit I was skeptical. Not of your talent, though. Haunted is my favorite album of all time and I had a kneejerk reaction of "Cover Poe! That takes balls!". Then I heard that you included the tape recording intro and I knew you had done the song justice. You did a great job, Feldspar.

DEAR EDDIE BANGS and anyone else interested: sorry, i was busy all day yesterday, but this morning i tried re-uploading the mp3 through a different ftp program (i noticed the file size of the online version and the one on my computer were different by a few hundred kb, not sure if that would make such a huge difference but i suppose it could. anyway...) so i got it re-sent and tried listening to it, and it appears to play now. so hopefully the garbled file woes are over? i sure hope so because i really don't know what else to do to fix it...
(somebody please let me know if it works?)

SUCCESS!!! Congrats Voice and good work too. Ah, Mother Love Bone. Memories of high school and my flannel wearing girlfriend (note- we lived on a beach front community. There was no damn need for flannels.)
