Weekend, October 3 and 4
Lazy Saturday after a long, long week at work.
Hardly Strictly Bluegrass this weekend. Anyone going? I'm thinking about it.

No sir, I am not going. But if I lived closer, I sure would.
However, I am going nowhere this weekend. Have you been? It's great. Easy to get to, no crowds, and a fridge full of cold beverages.
...I'll take pictures and post them on Monday.

Erin and I are planning to go tomorrow. Irwin, PM me if you're going to go tomorrow also and want to try to meet up. I'm not sure what our exact plan is, but we'll probably try to get there around noon and pick a spot at one of the main stages and just camp out for a while.

Re: Weekend, October 3 and 4
I was planning on going to see the Dayglo Abortions at a bar in Innisfail (about 20 minutes away from my town) but can't afford it, and even if I could, wouldn't want to drive back (I mean, you don't see a band like this and not get drunk)
So, instead, I'm sitting at home tonight, bored. Might play some video games or something. Meh.

Jack Shite may or may not be coming into town, and we were planning on meeting up there if he did - we should just get a big ol' Song Fight contingent or something either way.

Whoa, Dayglo Abortions are still around? The 'Here Today, Guano Tomorrow album got me through many a day at my first mindless job.Märk wrote:I was planning on going to see the Dayglo Abortions at a bar in Innisfail (about 20 minutes away from my town) but can't afford it, and even if I could, wouldn't want to drive back (I mean, you don't see a band like this and not get drunk)

Re: Weekend, October 3 and 4
fluffy, we're aiming to see Emmy Lou Harris, Mavis Staples, and Aimee Mann, at least. I'd also like to try to see Neko Case and Billy Bragg, too. Text or call me if you want to meet up with us.

So basically aiming for 1:15 at the Rooster Stage, then? Cool. If you don't have my current cellphone number, it's yours minus 956690121.

Re: Weekend, October 3 and 4
We got there much later than we'd hoped we would. So we missed BIlly Bragg. We did manage to get settled in for Aimee Mann, but we actually found her set to be a bit underwhelming. She sounded great but the bar is set really high for the accompaniment at this event, and she just had a guy playing some keys and another guy triggering canned backing tracks on a laptop. After that we went to check out Mavis Staples. Erin and I wound up getting separated and we sat somewhere where we could hear her set well but couldn't really see anything. That set was really awesome, and she had Robbie Robertson on stage for "The Weight", which was particularly cool. Then we managed to catch a bunch of Neko Case's set, and she and her band sounded excellent. The setting sun behind them provided a really amazing backdrop, too. I was really impressed with their live show. Sadly we ran out of steam so we didn't catch Emmylou Harris's moonlit set. Then we had an horrific time getting home out of San Fran. Anyway, you should come up for it next year, Ross, it's pretty amazing.

Re: Weekend, October 3 and 4
I went to a birthday bash for Gavin Friday last night at Carnegie Hall. The Virgin Prunes, Rufus Wainwright, Flo & Eddie, U2, Courtney Love, Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed, Bill Frissell, Anthony, Lady Gaga, and a bunch of others. And Prince showed up to explain what the RED crusade to end hunger was. He's a little man, that Prince.

Haha, that's why my class was canceled on Thursday! My professor is Flo of Flo & Eddie. If I had known you were going, I would've told him about you and y'all could've met up or something. Ah well, next time. Was it an awesome show? The lineup sounded awesome.roymond wrote:I went to a birthday bash for Gavin Friday last night at Carnegie Hall. Now, that's just too cool. What course is it you have with him? I saw him with Zappa years ago.Bjam wrote:Haha, that's why my class was canceled on Thursday! My professor is Flo of Flo & Eddie. Yes, it was awesome in the ways that such an event is awesome (at times chaotic, others truly inspiring). The cabaret stuff was really great (Joel Grey joined him), U2 sounds best in this kind of small space and they did, Gavin Friday is pretty amazing in variety and stylistic intrigue. They ended with a full stage doing Bowie's "Jean Genie", which was fun. Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed and John Zorn made a lot of noise and really didn't fit into the evening at all...not sure why they were there other than they're doing similar benefit gigs.
There's Flo & Eddie standing just to the right of the drums, with U2, a horn section and 3 cellos...

Re: Weekend, October 3 and 4
He's my professor for my Entertainment Industry Studies class, and then the advisor for my major(which ~30 kids are majoring in, so hopefully I'll get to know him pretty well over the next 2 years). He's a character, for sure. Super easy class though!roymond wrote:Now, that's just too cool. What course is it you have with him? I have class with him tomorrow morning, so I'll let him know my buddy was there and said it was awesome
