Following my tradition of Round One being a love song to my wife (yes, really. We're both kinda weird, heh), I'm in. 180 fuckin' degrees from anything I've done before. Singer-songwriter, even.

For having a combination of Leonard Cohen's "I'm Your Man", Sarah Vaughn's "Summertime" and Lionel Ritchie's "Hello" as targets/models, for some unknown reason the Portland in me took over and the Animals' "House of the Rising Sun" manifested. (No, really, damn near all Portland bands name/style/flavor-check the damned thing in at least one of their own originals. Strange, but true.)

If I break the other tradition of first round eliminations, well, that's unexplored territory. Thar be dragons, yo.

Nur-fuckin' Ein!

Oh, and I submitted a weird shot of my dog for the band photo. Don't stare at it too long, heh.

Okay, the Brodeur/Gliniecki creation for Round 1 is "in the mail" with an hour to spare even! I hope a subtitle doesn't violate the rules. If we had just written the song outside of Nur Ein we probably would have called it Love Purgatory. But we called it Stranded (Love Purgatory). But hey, we could have written it like just about any Led Zeppelin song and not even mention the title at all within the song. Go easy on us. We're new at this. ;)

I actually tried to get more of a full band sound on this one. I was a little intimidated by the production on some of the other songs from Round 0. I was thinking this would be more of a quick singer/songwriter-guitar and vocals scratch track kind of thing. Just get the basic idea down. If it's a good song, work it up and flesh it out later. With only five days to write and record etc. I wouldn't have expected the production value of some of these tracks. So I did my best with Audacity on the wife's little pink netbook and what musical tools I have lying around.

Bill did almost all of the work on this one. I'm glad we decided to work together on this. With the kids home for April vacation this week I haven't had two minutes to think, never mind sit down and write a song. Finally had some time this afternoon to get together and record what Bill had written. I played the (woefully out of time) drum track and bass and the whisper. Guitar and vocals are Bill this time.

Last time out was almost all me. Bill helped come up with the chord progression. We really envisioned that as a punk rock kind of frantic sound. But with the kids in bed when I recorded, you got an acoustic with a close mic'd kinda quiet vocal.

Getting that one out of my head sucked. Nevertheless, my time management skills saved me -- I managed to take the kids to a museum, clean three rooms of the house and complete my entry. At 8:48pm PST. And it took me another nine minutes to get it mp3'd and mailed. Whew.

ACK!

Email out at 10:47 Texas time!

MAN!

It sounds like my AlienVibraphonePlayer had too much tequila, and I need to remember to use my pop filter. I could have used more time (this is what happens though). It's better than last round, in my opinion.

It's still frickkin weird though. Looking forward to everyone :)

I got mine in with hundreds of seconds left to burn. So I used that time to just looked off into space and ponder.

...oh, and I forgot to send a pic. I'll do that now.

The lessons this week kids are not to forgot to leave the accordion part out and not to finish editing last thing before going to sleep. I can barely listen to mine today.

Another great bunch of songs. This weeks stand outs for me would be Boop Boop for putting a big grin on my face. Well done. Chris Cogott for a nice smooth Beach Boyish/REO Speedwagonish groove. You have a great voice, well done. Berkley kicked ass as usual, also well done. I need to ask Ken what treatment he did on his kick. Perfect mix of thump and hit. I can never quite get both at the same time.

In fact, I pretty much enjoyed every song this week. Each seemed to have something that caught my attention, so I will work on some reviews to point them out.
